Bulagal Posted May 24, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2019 Has anyone used Walkie Talkies on The Bliss? If so how did they work? Thank you in advance -
Sauer-kraut Posted May 24, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2019 Be a courteous cruiser and leave them at home. None of the other passengers want to hear your conversations over a squawk box. Use posty notes or leave messages on the stateroom phones.
roger001 Posted May 24, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2019 If you don't get a specific Bliss answer, just search walkie talkies on this board. There are a huge bunch of threads that talk about the good, the bad...mostly, and such. Many, many answers and opinions.

ZsaZsa2019 Posted May 24, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2019 I asked the same thing a bit ago, and got similar answers. However, hubby said he did some more research on line and found where the Bliss did not allow them. Where he found that, and was it legit, I don't know. Best case it to contact NCL direct. However, I can see how they could be annoying. On the other hand, stickies or cabin phone messages aren't practical if everyone is out and about on the ship somewhere and you want to get in touch. We have AT&T and are getting a cruise plan so that we can text and phone.
hallux Posted May 24, 2019 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2019 How much are you going to spend on those devices, for how many people? For approx. $10 per device for the entire trip you can set up mobile devices with the NCL app and communication within the ship. You can "text" and call any other person that paid for that service as well. No need to pay for the internet service, just the one-time fee to register for the intra-ship communication. hallux Posted May 24, 2019 #8 Share Posted May 24, 2019 That feature is noted in the "During your cruise" section on www.ncl.com/apps
Birdie And Sue Posted May 24, 2019 #9 Share Posted May 24, 2019 Please do yourself and all the other passengers a big favor and leave them at home. They rarely work well at all, can't legally be used in some ports, and are extremely annoying to other passengers. ClevelandCruisin Posted May 27, 2019 #10 Share Posted May 27, 2019 Can you hear me now? We had some lady using these in the elevator. Screaming into the damn thing like they were on another ship. Alcohol and walkie talkies do not mix. Then the squax noise five or six times. 1
timf2001 Posted May 27, 2019 #11 Share Posted May 27, 2019 I saw people with walkie talkies on Bliss this past week, so I assume they are allowed. However, I would second using the app to communicate as that worked quite well.
66Cruisin Posted May 27, 2019 #12 Share Posted May 27, 2019 both audio and text work well using your own cell phone and the app. I was quite surprised at the quality of the audio comm.

We took advantage of the app on our phones so we could talk and text. It worked out great. An additional benefit to this is you can book things and check your schedule from your phone. Rare Lupush Posted May 28, 2019 #15 Share Posted May 28, 2019 The best thing to do is pay the $10 for the direct messaging/calls using the NCL app. This worked perfectly for us on Bliss. Highly recommended.
TiiiSailor Posted May 28, 2019 #16 Share Posted May 28, 2019 I've not sailed on Bliss, but have sailed on other ships where they were used. One problem had by those using them was there were people who appeared to purposely talk over others every time they tried to use them. There was, what appeared to be, a couple kids who would attempt to imitate someone in a group and give out misinformation, sending people on wild goose chases. A second issue was a couple families used the walkie talkies to keep in touch with their children. Due to anyone else with a walkie talkie being able to intercept the communications, the families quickly became concerned with the safety of their children. That never became an issue, but did stop them from using them after two days. Need to also check the legality of using them in other countries.
