cruiselover19811981 Posted June 3, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2019 Which nights are the formal nights for a 6 night cruise? Also, anyone have recent Cruise Compasses for AOS? Thanks in advance!
hallux Posted June 3, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2019 Not sure if it matters for this question, but RCI has 3 ships that can be abbreviated AOS - Anthem, Allure and Adventure - it might help to identify specifically which one...

mets123 Posted June 3, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 3, 2019 If it's the New England and Canada route from Cape Liberty, it would be nights 2 & 5.
ecslady Posted June 3, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 3, 2019 Just came off the Adventure 6 night to NE/Canada and we only had one formal night on day 2. I was surprised, but happy!
wineandbeach Posted June 3, 2019 #7 Share Posted June 3, 2019 ecslady: Are you going to write a review. We are going June 22 and are looking forward to hearing all about it. Formal nights was one question but also wondered: Did you take Canadian money for the ports? Do most places at the ports take credit cards. Did you do anything you recommend on port days? Have been on a lot of Royal ships but not recently - How was the food and service? Anything you loved or didn't love?

Use the Ports of Call forum to learn about activities in your ports. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/9-canadanew-england/
WELDON Posted June 4, 2019 #9 Share Posted June 4, 2019 I was also on last week's NE/Canada cruise. You can use US money but beware you may get Canada money back if change is involved. If I want to use US$, I always ask what currency I will get back. Otherwise I use a credit card. Credit cards are taken everywhere. I went to the dining room the first night and didn't care for the food or the selections. I then went to the Windjammer every night. There is something for everyone. The food is not what it used to be. The ports are easy to walk around. I've been to the ports before and always find something new I haven't seen. I don't know what you're interested in but I look at the ship's excursions to get an idea of where they go. I then take an excursion or go off on my own and get an independent tour. The ports have tours you can get when you get off the ship (Grayline, HOHO, local tour companies).

cruiselover19811981 Posted June 8, 2019 Author #12 Share Posted June 8, 2019 Fantastic! Less attire for us to pack - 2 adults, 2 children and trying to minimize what we need to pack, since we will be flying in and out of Newark. ecslady, do you happen to have any of the Cruise Compasses from your cruise? smokeykat Posted June 8, 2019 #13 Share Posted June 8, 2019 I would be interested in seeing a cruise compass! We are going in July 😀 Did anyone do the speciality restaurants? We are taking a tour in Bar Harbor Maine and have to be in town at 9:30 am. What time would you get the tender tickets for? How long did it take for you to get off the ship? Thanks
Willwils Posted June 21, 2019 #14 Share Posted June 21, 2019 Well that confirms there's only 1 formal night on the Adventure of the Seas 6 night to N.E./Canada. Can anyone tell me about the dress in the main dining room, both for regular & formal nights? Interested in both for me & wife. Going in July 2019. I had seen that listing from RC, but I think it may be old, one sided. In the past when we would get dressed-up we would be upset at a few others wearing shorts & t-shirts on formal nights. Do guys still need a jacket & women dress on formal nights as RC would suggest? How about other nights? Anyone out there on any recent RC cruise. It's been a few years since we last cruised. You can wear whatever you like.
Rare rafinmd Posted June 22, 2019 #18 Share Posted June 22, 2019 What about Empress? 6-night Key West (5PM departure)-sea-CostaMaya(6PM)-Cozumel(5PM)-sea(Miami) I'm thinking just 1 on the first sea day. Any other opinions? Roy

There are ongoing, raging debates/discussions about that on FB. Empress "sort of" has formal nights, calling them "dress to impress" nights. Some people say that they had them; some say that they didn't. It's a puzzlement! 😁 (points to anyone who recognizes the reference)

RedSails1968 Posted June 22, 2019 #22 Share Posted June 22, 2019 Symphony called them “formal” but honestly, there is no need for a jacket and tie unless you want to wear them. I did not see any ball caps, t-shirts or shorts on those nights.
Lady Hudson Posted June 22, 2019 #23 Share Posted June 22, 2019 Recently on Adventure 6 nights to Canada. One formal night. I ate late seating and most were dressed, what I would call, appropriately. I don’t recall seeing shorts in the dining room at my seating. Katherine
