Upgrading, losing OBC and cruise planner purchases

Recommended Posts

I booked Oasis of the Seas for Aug. 2020 while on the Anthem. We received a $400 OBC. I used $399 of that to purchase a cabana at Perfect Day on South Beach. I want to upgrade from jr suite to a crown loft suite, which will result in losing $300 of the OBC (it was a WOW sale that upgrading will make us lose). I asked my travel agent, crown and anchor, and a regular CSR at RC what would happen to the cabana since the OBC was used to pay for it. As you can image I got three different answers, two very similar. So i decided to come to the experts.....here were the three responses:

1. From TA - as soon as the upgrade is done log onto cruise planner and pay difference

2. From C&A - it would be cancelled and have to repurchase at current price (I paid $399 it's now $799)

3. From CSR - he claims he spoke with resolutions department....it won't be canceled, they will send me a balance due letter or as soon as it's done, I can call, i cannot pay on cruise planner, and pay the difference.

Anyone ever do this and what is really going to happen????? TIA

From personal experience number 1 is correct.  You will have either  48 or 72 hours to pay.  you can also call to pay, I did mine onlline.

Online with Royal's consumer website?

Yes.  3 months ago I upgraded from insides to an XN for our Christmas sailing on Oasis.  Lost $200 OBC per cabin which I had used to purchase the UDP.  The rep told me on the phone that I was losing the OBC and I would have to go into the cruise planner to make payment and had 48 or 72 hours to do so.  I don't remember getting an e mail informing me of the balance owing.  Easy peasy.

1 and 3 are essentially the same thing.

I had purchased items in cruise planner with OBC and then when I called a repriced through casino a lost all the OBC.  Next time I logged into the cruise planner it told me i had to pay the balance for the items.  The price hadn't changed on them for me.

Going through the exact same thing right now.

-Booked through an TA, saw a higher category that we liked.

-Upgraded and lost OBC from Royal.  Already used the OBC for excursions.

-Log back into cruise planner, then it tells me I owe "X" much, must pay by "Y" date.  I paid the balance with a credit card.

-Under 49 days to my cruise, now both SetSail Pass and luggage tag can't be printed and showing "Pending".  Nobody from Royal can figure out why, multiple CSR telling me just show up early and check in at port..... (I'm going to keep calling back).... fun times.

Thanks all,

The change was made and I when I logged into the cruise planner and bix popped up saying there was a change in OBC. I was able to pay for the cabana at the original price online. It said i had until the 27th to pay it. The drink packages were untouched.

Well, our from experience, we had pre purchases on cruise planner cancelled, new confirm # issued due to  moving booking to agency,  got ripped off from pricing paid on Black Friday for cruise planner item,  had RCCL indicate our booking was non-refundable when in fact it was voted on-Board and confirmed as Refundable. 4 new confirmations being issued each time anything taking place including price drop guarantee adjustment.  So to the original question, they didn’t offer you a possible 4th situation. Here it is:

> RCCL will do what ever they want, give you no options, take away your OBC, and offer you no paper trail or audit trail on this as resolutions has stated to us, they don’t have audit trails of cruise planner, just the booking, but that too, is open to question.

Our current “battle” for an upcoming cruise has been exactly that, a battle on all fronts both RCCL and with the TA not getting any answers or response no matter how high and hard they are pushing to resolve. #satisfactionNOT . To the point we considered cancel and take back only what would be refunded under the policy, but then, they win and we lose. Not going to happen.

I was actually thinking of changing the date of the booking. I was told that would mean a new booking number and all cruise planner purchases would be cancelled. Did you change the date?

Started with On-board booking well over a year ago, then Cruise planner purchase, then transfer to TA, then price drop via TA, then moved booking - same ship by one week via TA, then RCCL cancel with full payment via TA.  Each issuing new numbers and continued BS from the RCCL or for what is being communicated back to us, the PAX.

>  As noted # frustration is being polite on my/our end.

We all purchased the $18.00 drink plan during the glitch using OBC and a credit card. My cousins studio cabin dropped over $100.00 (NY Resident special) last week.  I called in and asked 2-3 times if it would affect the drink plan pricing...they said no.....we took the price drop and I kept the CSR on the phone until the $38.00 balance due showed in the cruise planner and I had them take payment while I was on the phone with them and then had them send me the new cruise planner & booking confirmations. I actually posted it to my roll call because everyone was leery about making any changes for fear of losing the glitched out pricing on the drink plan.
