Future Cruise Credit - Weather Related

 Share

Recommended Posts

We just got off Navigator and they ended up cancelling our CoCo Cay stop due to shutting having to shut it down (so they can evacuate all the workers to keep them safe due to Dorian).

As a result, Royal of course refunded any excursions, but they also gave us 25% of our cruise cost as FCC so we can visit CoCo Cay again. (Thought that was a nice touch)

Wondering how this works

  1. The email say it has an expiration date of Aug 31, 2020.  Does that mean we need to book the cruise before Aug 31st?  Or does that mean that the cruise must be completed by Aug 31st?
  2. Can you simply use the money to pay off an existing cruise?  Or would it be for a new cruise?

We have a few cruises booked already and so wondering if we can just apply the credit.  Or if not, then guessing an option would be to cancel and rebook (as all but one are booked as refundable).  Hoping the former as if we have to cancel and rebook, the FCC may not help us much as our cruises have gone up in price since we booked.  The letter doesn't really specify, and of course I'll ask the Royal agent...but knowing them, it depends who I get on the phone for what answer I get.

Thanks.

You must apply the FCC to a booking by Aug 31.

On the same topic of being offered 100% future cruise credit for a cruise that I will be missing due to Dorian. I have never done this so don't know the procedure. I just called RCI and the rep didn't sound like she was familiar with the procedure and I didn't want to mess it up?

Would someone walk be through how to go about getting the cruise credit?

Exactly why I wanted to check on here before asking Royal agent.

Sorry your cruise got cancelled.   Hope you book something great for another time out of it.

The FCC would normally be emailed to you.

Do I cancel the cruise? That is what the RCI

rep wanted me to do.

You should receive an official communication from Royal with details.  Normally there is a special number to call to deal with the specialists who will handle the storm related changes.

Btw...I will say that we were impressed with Royal.  Although we, and a lot of others, were very disappointed missing CoCo Cay (and especially on a 4 night cruise - so for us, it was a cruise to nowhere), Royal really didn't have to offer anything outside of refunding excursions.  It was weather related, something out of their control.

Similar thing happened to us on our transatlantic on the Navigator last year...weather related and stabilizer issues...we were happy with what Royal did for the passengers.  We also received a 25% FCC based on our cabin AND an additional 25% off our cruise.

Yes, we received the FCC via email with our names, a number, and the amount.  There was a one year expiration date to use it.  We decided to call Royal and use the FCC towards an already booked cruise.  Thanks Royal. 😎

Thanks for sharing. It's great to hear how good Royal is when it's not the vacation you are expecting.,.even when it is completely out of Royals hands

Sorry to hear you missed CocoCay, looks like it will be March on Anthem.  Great to see that they offered you the FCC.

Thanks. Yeah, we were disappointed, but at least we have it again in March, and even others too.  And it could have been a lot worse such as those that ended up cancelling due to flights or shortened cruise, etc.  For our Navigator, we got the waterpark for a pretty good price. They are selling it at double now for our other cruises.  And for Anthem, we purchased the half day waterpark way back, so wonder how they are handling those since they no longer sell half day.

My friend had this happen a few years ago.  The FCC was per person (her fare was more than her husband's).  When she went to use it, they didn't let her apply it to the deposit, so she had to pay $500 toward that.  She had to take two cruises to use it all.  She booked another September cruise and then decided to take a cruise in April.  They wouldn't let her use the remaining credit until after she took her Sept. cruise, so she had to book it while onboard in Sept. to make the year cutoff date.  This was two years ago and she refuses to argue with people so not sure what will happen now, especially if you argue up the food chain.

RCL seems to be very generous this time. . . . and for your Nav cruise.  It is good they are being proactive with this storm.  Safety first.

I will say we were on the Jewel TA [from Rome] at the same time you were on Navigator TA and we had our 3 ports changed, too --from 3 European ports to 2 in the Canaries and St Maartin. We had the same 48 hr notice.   But, our cruise did not get any FCCs.  Since it was weather related we did not expect anything.  But, it did not seem fair to give a very generous amount to 1 cruise and nothing to the other when we were sailing at the same time and had the same weather issue.

Agree...we, along with friends and other passengers on the Navigator had friends sailing on the Jewel (on your sailing)...it was discussed during dinner why the Jewel passengers were not given the FCC's.  We all felt bad and thought you deserved something.  Our guess...it was perhaps the stabilizer issue on the Navigator that triggered the generous credits.
