Fee for gambling money in casino?

I talked to someone at Princess who wasn't sure we could get gambling money with no fee.  She switched me to "someone who would know" and after holding for 20 minutes I gave up.  Anyone know?

You can use cash in the casino. You can also charge play at slots and table games to your on board account. There is no charge for this. You can also purchase casino credits in the cruise personlizer. Does this answer your concern?

If you pre-purchase casino credits, you'll receive a card in your cabin. You take that card to the casino cage and they give you cash. It's very easy and I recommend it for anyone who is looking for cash to play with (you can purchase up to $1000).

Great suggestion.  Thanks!

What is the advantage for doing this?? What extra value do you get for pre purchasing casino credits?

It is quite easy just to use cash or charge it to your room. There are no extra fees involved.

I agree, riffatsea, but I can see the advantage of not having to carry the money, and having it waiting for you at the ship, if you want to set a hard budget of the amount you gamble.

I can see a couple of advantages.

1. I book in CDN funds so the casino cash I pay for is in CDN funds - (with the same exchange rate I book my cruise in) - no paying the bank or broker a fee for conversion.

2. I don't have to travel with any more cash than I already do.

3. It's too easy to overcharge to your cabin when charging casino funds to your shipboard account - I've done it - you transfer small amounts while playing ($20 - $50 - $100) and it's easy to miscount how much you've actually charged until you look at your bill at the end of the day (or whenever you do).

For me it's no different than setting up a small line of credit with the casino ahead of time. There's no charge and if I don't use it, it didn't cost me anything to do it because I still have the cash.

One bad experience that took some time getting straightened our and had to wait until I got home. I put $300 US on a casino account before taking a cruise on the Majestic this year. When I got aboard I was told that since the ship was on Australian dollars my credit would be in AUD. OK, but they insisted that the exchange was 1-1 and not what that amount should have been exchanged for in AUD. I think it should have been over 400 AUD.  I stayed out of the casino and then went through hoops when I got back to get the money back in $US.  Not the only exchange problem on that cruise but since it was casino related I put it here.

I just decide how much I want to spend and put it on my room account Day 1 in whatever currency the ship is using ($USD or AUD in 2 months) then cash out the last day. Especially after reading one Cruise Critic member nightmare about getting the right exchange rate back a few months back. Changed the way I do things

Can we use CDN cash in the casino, or is USD required?

USD is required.

Though I do recommend checking your exchange rate that your cruise is booked at (look to see how much $100 OBC would cost you). Right now the exchange rate is 1.33 (plus any fees your bank will charge) - if your online booking lets you buy OBC or Casino Cash at 1.30, you are saving a little bit.
