2 person tables in MDR

The good private tables for 2 are usually tucked along the backside of the staircases, around corners so that no one knows they are there, and along the balcony railing.  On several occasions the Maitre'd has turned a table for 4 into a table for 2 for us.   It seems to be easier for them to do at late seating, which doesn't seem to ever be full. We often sail on ships more than once, so I often send a request that includes a table number.  We have some favorite tables on ships we sail on regularly.

In over 100 cruises, we've made lifelong friends by being at a big table.  I can talk to my wife at home!

Reminds me of our cruise on the Legend, which incidentally was the only time we've ever been at a table for 2 (just by chance; I too like the bigger tables).  We were on the balcony next to the railing and enjoyed watching the tables below us.  One 8 or 10 seater had a group of mostly jovial couples except one of the husbands who was REALLY jovial.  Rhonda and I really got some laughs out of this guy; you could hear him laughing and yelling and truly enjoying the conversation of his seat mates every night except one, the night when nobody else showed up.  It was just him and his wife sitting there through the whole meal, stone cold sober and barely 2 words said between them.  We both felt a little sorry for them.  Luckily it was only the one night and after that it was back to normal.

I don't dine with strangers when I'm at home, why would I do it when I'm on vacation? The last time we did on a cruise, we were unable to get a table for two on the first night, this was before YTD. The guy sitting across from me in a booth, talked while he ate and literally spit food on me, a big chunk of lettuce. It was disgusting.

The person who proposes getting a big table is probably one of the reasons I don't.

Patio dining?

probably sitting in the restaurant one floor up and looking down into the lower level of the restaurant.

I've been seated like that before. We were in anytime dining on the floor above and we could look down and see the waitstaff doing their singing and dancing for early seating people.

IIRC, getting in and out of that bench seat involved the wait staff pulling out the table then pushing it back in place. No way anyone (other than a child or small adult) could squeeze between those tables.

yeah no way. I sat right there on the end on glory in August and there was room. It was nothing like that.

We always get a table for 2 and many times end up in the row pictured earlier.  While it is much better than being at a big table it is still crowded.  I am aware there isn't much space for privacy but there are still some good tables around.  I think on our next cruise I am going to tour the dining room in advance and note some of the table numbers that are out of the way.  When we check in for YTD I will ask if they are available.

When I cruise solo I always book a table for one.  On Pride  I e-mail the Maitre D (I always like when Ken Byrne is on) and get the same table every cruise.

I love to meet new people at the bars and casino but prefer to dine solo in the MDR since I'm in and out in under 45 minutes or less.  Never order dessert (unless it's Baked Alaska night) and don't like sitting through multiple courses of dinner with others when I might only order an entree.

During the cruise I'll meet others and if we're all compatible, (LOL) we'll book the Steakhouse or do Seaday Brunch and eat together and that's fine too!

I have a bad knee and I struggle getting up from sitting down, my husband usually has to help pull me up. It's very awkward and slightly embarrassing to attempt this with the tables that are close. This trip I emailed the maitre d after I had looked at a map of the tables that were for 2 but not right next to another one. I listed a few of these table numbers and asked nicely hoping for the best. We had early dining and were assigned a lovely table next to a window toward the back and to the side in a little alcove, much more than I asked for or expected. This was on the Vista.

The dining room hasn't gotten any bigger. As more and more people ask for tables for two, they have to rearrange the tables to accommodate the requests. They can't separate them too much or they couldn't seat all the guests. Not to hard to figure out.

That is why we usually eat on lido. A few times we had great table mates really close to us. But we have also had people next to us that gave us dirty looks every time one of us spoke, once a couple next to us was praying before their meal- we were seated next to them and they apparently didn’t like being interrupted and spent the whole meal giving us dirty looks. It made a very uncomfortable meal. We had no problem with them praying, but I didn’t decide to sit there to bug them.
