Scoobydobe7 Posted November 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2019 Hi, would we be able to make a 9:45 am flight (Newark), doing self assist, from an Oasis (Cape Liberty) scheduled 6 am docking in August, and would you suggest a taxi or a private car? TIA!!!
1025cruise Posted November 17, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2019 I would be sweating up a storm until I was sitting at the gate trying for a flight that early.
Garth2 Posted November 19, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2019 Your cruise line should have a link that recommends an earliest return flight time. You have no control over what time the ship will dock, or what time you will be able to disembark.

You would be very tight on that. Earliest you could hope to be off the ship would be 7:15-45 and thats by no means guaranteed-- any number of things could delay that. Then you are about a 20 min car ride to the airport so call that 8:15 at the very earliest and most likely more like 8:45. It's completely possible as well that the ship docks at 6am and is cleared right after that and off you go with plenty of time, but you cant count on it. Its physically possible but I would make sure you have a backup flight in mind (and not mind paying change fees for it) and also would schedule a car and driver to pick you up because you wont have time to wait for a cab, shuttle, or even Uber. They need to be there waiting for you.
mjkacmom Posted November 19, 2019 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2019 I wouldn’t, weekday definitely not, but I’ve been in very long security lines at EWR.
navybankerteacher Posted November 20, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2019 Possible - perhaps even a 70% chance that you could make it — but unless you have a very good Plan B you’d be a fool to try it. I am glad to make any very low stakes bet which offers me a better than 50% chance - but missing a flight after a cruise is a big wager.

Conversely, I've had experiences where a private car service was there, but couldn't wait right at the curb (where cabs typically can) so after meeting pax they had to walk with them to a designated parking area. Again though, maybe Newark is different and private car services are allowed to park and wait right at the curb outside the terminal?

Yes-- New Jersey cabs are very unorganized. Unlike Manhattan or Brooklyn it is not a forgone conclusion a cab will be waiting there or there will be enough for everyone who wants one. Also, cabs in New Jersey tend to be a lot older and shabbier than their New York counterparts. 5 hours ago, waterbug123 said: Conversely, I've had experiences where a private car service was there, but couldn't wait right at the curb (where cabs typically can) so after meeting pax they had to walk with them to a designated parking area. It's not Newark, its Cape Liberty, and it is a lot less formal than other places where there is a lot less room for them to wait like Manhattan. Cape Liberty cruise port is in an industrial area and there is plenty of room for them to wait. They will have no problem getting you curbside.
