We had the same menu on the tv for 3 days in a row. Totally different from what they actually were serving. Mentioned it to the waiter. He knewcsll about it.  Should have gotten up and left but we were with another couple. I really wanted that venison. Had a pretty bad beef wellington

do they no longer have the menus posted at the entrance to the GDR?

They do but, as I wrote, they should have the "preview" menu on the tv be the same/accurate or not have it.

Dinner at Polo. Bob "only" got the 20oz Porterhouse. (Prime and aged 28 days.) They had a foie gras dish that was done with mushrooms and then wrapped in puff pastry. The chef blew my mind when they were willing to just sear it and serve with a little sauce. The lobster mac n cheese was insane. You'd think you were getting a bit of pasta but instead it was lobster.  The creme brulee was clearly 'torched' right before serving as it still had noticeable warmth.

Tempted to go there every night.

I told you that they are flexible and aim to please when they can.

Looks great!

You were who I thought of when I asked most humbly and raved and raved when I got it.

Dinner last night at Jacques. We liked it even more than Polo and we loved Polo. The escargots were the best we've ever had - and I make them at home!588847942_IMG_7098-Edited(1).thumb.jpg.8ee58351ba3bb5aa24c9d80577253058.jpg

Ok Cath, I have gained at least 10 pounds on line with food porn! 😱 WOW I want the foie and filet and I would be a happy camper with escargot!! I couldn’t eat all that food. Hope your trip is relaxing.

Speaking of desserts, I love the milles feuilles at Jacques ... and their crepes suzettes are very nice, too!

I just wish they still served the mussels appetizer.  They were fabulous ... but maybe hard to get as a cruise went further afield.

We discovered Whidbey Island in the Seattle. They have steamed Penn Cove mussels straight from the water perhaps 100 yards away. Ruined us for anything else 🙂

Fresh is fresh ... then again the mussels we've had in Normandy have been quite fantastic!

I prefer farmed mussels to wild ones. The farmed are always plump while the wild ones vary greatly - some are minuscule, almost not worth the effort.

Oh, these were farmed...in Penn Cove.

Sorry, have to add to the diversion on this thread.  had a pound of the Penn Cove mussels yesterday for lunch.  Almost always available in our area.

We can buy them at the Costco in Reno but we don't. We now wait til we get to Seattle. I know Taylor Shellfish farms them although we usually get oysters when we go there.

Service in the GDR. I touched on this in another thread and I could tell people were getting riled up. So I'm going to 'report' this and say no more.

A few days into our cruise we went to the GDR for dinner. A two-top but a very nice couple within hugging distance 🙂 The room was perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 full. It took 20 minutes to get menus. At that time we asked for a glass of ice. At 40 minutes we got apps. No ice and asked again. At an hour they showed up with the main and the glass of ice. We got up and started working our way to the door. At which point staff were all over us. And at the elevator the food and beverage manager showed up also. So anyone who thinks we didn't deal with it is, well, wrong.

We'd have left it at that but the following day on a tender we mentioned it to a party who said they'd had the exact same thing happen.  And then someone else spoke up and said "me too."  We have a established a fun relationship with a member of the staff. I'm not sure of their exact position but not management and not housekeeping or food/beverage. Deals with pax. They said they'd had the same experience more than once and have talked to pax who have also. So this appears not to be a one-off situation. And I'll report it -yet again. Maybe it's one person. Really doubt it since others have had the issue.

We love leisurely dining and the couple next to us were fun and we were absolutely in no rush. But to not get menus for 20 minutes and an hour for a glass of ice exceeds acceptable in my opinion. Over and out, folks.

Out of 1000 pax not sure if I've talked to a "Claudia" but if I meet one tonight I sure will 🙂 Disembarking in Buenos Aires tomorrow AM.
