Beachmomm Posted February 29, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 29, 2020 Hi, Shows ~ Kinky boots and/or choir of man suitable for young kids??? 9 and 12 year olds. Thanks so very much!
Homosassa Posted February 29, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 29, 2020 You need to decide based on your personal views on homosexuality (Kinky Boots) and spending a night in a pub with children (Choir of Man). Personally I would not have a problem bringing my daughter to either show if she was the age of your kids.
stefmaia Posted February 29, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 29, 2020 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jOXt72sSsvA in the end you need to decide for yourself, you can read the show synopsis or , here Is Young Sheldon doing a review.
mjkacmom Posted February 29, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 29, 2020 I’d have no issue with my kids watching it at those ages.
Beachmomm Posted February 29, 2020 Author #5 Share Posted February 29, 2020 Yes we have been watching previews/reviews. The prohibition show they are too young. Surprised they didn’t offer another family show. Thanks for your advice! Appreciate it.

baflagg Posted February 29, 2020 #8 Share Posted February 29, 2020 We haven't seen Kinky Boots but Choir of Man is fantastic. My daughter loves the show we saw it twice on each of our last two cruises when she was 11 & 12. We will see it again on the Encore in April. Most of the songs are current, not ones that they won't recognize. Free beer for parents at the start of the show and anyone is welcome to go up on stage during the pre-show, kids included.
cruiseman90 Posted February 29, 2020 #9 Share Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) I can't speak for Kinky Boots since I've never seen it, but Choir of Man is fairly benign with the exception of some alcohol references as well as a scene that takes place in a restroom in which you can see (fake) urine streams from below the dividers. david_sobe Posted February 29, 2020 #10 Share Posted February 29, 2020 Anything your kids watch on TV is way more adult or obscene than any of these shows. I dont even remember any curse words at either show. IMHO I dont think at young ages kids have the patience for Broadway shows. I know as a kid at age 8 I could barely stand musical movies let alone plays. Again, these shows are G rated compared to anything on MTV or prime time. Or in other words, the school bus your kids go to school on has much worse language 😏

We would have no problems with either show. choir of Man is a fun show staged on a British pub. Kinky Boots is a shoe factory changing from wing tip shoes to fancy boots to save the business. Yes, the lead is a drag queen. It is a harmless show.

david_sobe Posted March 1, 2020 #14 Share Posted March 1, 2020 Kinky Boots actually has a very good theme of "accept someone for who they are." Many characters of the show feel shunned for different reasons.
Rare Newleno Posted March 3, 2020 #15 Share Posted March 3, 2020 I would not bring them, the choir boy show the theatre smelled like a brewery, I would not promote the "fun" of drinking to children. Kinky boots? Well do you usually have your kids watch the rupual drag queen show?

DuckTollerFans Posted March 3, 2020 #17 Share Posted March 3, 2020 The theme of Choir of Man - very loosely -- is that it's a group of guys who find companionship and camaraderie with each other, the way some do with sports teams. And the singing was absolutely perfect. Tightest harmonies you can imagine...spot on. Your kids probably know some of the music - covers of Katy Perry, Sia, and Adele for example. I bought the CD and play it often. To be honest, I like the cast we saw on the Escape in June even better than those on the CD. (that cast left soon after that)
Rare graphicguy Posted March 3, 2020 #18 Share Posted March 3, 2020 No one is doing anything wrong in either of these shows. If you're a helicopter parent, and you're bound and determined not to let your kids see drinking, dancing and singing, you're not going to want them to go to either of these shows. If you're a more reasoned person, both shows have a lot of positive messages. My guess is, you're kids will have fun at them.

Watching someone drink beer and dress as a woman should be the least of your worries as a parent. Better yet blind fold your children as they walk through the casino and pool deck. Because some kids enjoy them? My older kids did a lot of community theater as children, their younger siblings went to the shows, even some cabaret nights, starting around 4. We also watched many on TV. At 8 my kids were going to shows on Broadway. I had a kid in the HS musical for 9 years running.
Melody7 Posted March 3, 2020 #22 Share Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) I can only speak to Kinky Boots. As many people have said, it depends on your view on LGBTQ and drag cultures. I like the way that another poster put it, Kinky Boots is the story of a failing out-of-date shoe factory re-branding to make boots and heels for a niche population! Yes, the main character is a drag queen and there are other scenes with great singing and dancing, all from drag queens! To me, it can be a very educational moment if you have that mind set. The most "offensive" song (from the perception of some, definition not from me!) would be "The S*x is in the Heel," but I don't know if it's in the NCL shortened version. Truthfully, Kinky Boots, as I've seen it performed in full, is one of the most vibrant, positive, and uplifting musicals I have ever seen (and I've seen A LOT). The ending song is hopeful and inspirational: One, pursue the truth Two, learn something newThree, accept yourself and you'll accept others too!Four, let love shineFive, let pride be your guideSix, you change the world when you change your mind! Just beWho you wanna beNever let them tell you who you oughta beJust beWith dignityCelebrate your life triumphantly Edited March 3, 2020 by Melody7 Censored word?
