Got an email stating that Pre-Cruise sale ends in 12 hours but how can i tell what is discounted?

Recommended Posts

I am sailing on the anthem of the seas on 23rd May... I haven't booked any package/excursions etc at all as i was waiting for a sale...

I now am told that the sale ends in 12 hours, i didn't even know the sale is on... and i can't work out what had been reduced?

How can i find out please as i don't want to miss out on it but it doesn't show what is reduced and i was going to use the reductions to help me decide what i wanted to prebook

Thanks

Go into your planner and look at what you'd like to do.  Then decide if the cost is "worth it".  If it is, purchase it, if it's not, don't.  Or do you purchase something just because it's "on sale"?

Nothing on a cruise is really 'worth it'... its about getting the best value for money possible.

I am not rich, i can not justify a lot of prices of things on these cruises. but equally i don't want to miss out on everything when its supposed to be a treat. If i can get things in the sales then i will do, then nearer to the cruise i can see if there is anything else i really want but wasn't able to get reduced... then i will have to 'bite the bullet' and pay full price.

i felt the last sentence was a little rude and unnecessary to be honest

You're missing my point.  Let's say the drink package is "normally" (and we know there's no such thing) $65/day.  So this "sale" is happening and now the drink package is at $60/day.  Is that worth it to you?  If not, it doesn't matter whether it's on sale or not.

The fact something is "on sale" doesn't mean you need to purchase it.  You have to ask yourself two questions... would I like to do/purchase this?  Is it worth the money?  If the answers to both questions are "yes", buy it.  It doesn't matter whether it's on sale or not.

This applies everywhere, not just on cruises.

i do understand your point but i was just looking to find out if there was anything in this sale that is reduced before the 12 hours is finished and the sale has ended because i haven't sat down with the wife and studied what i do and dont want to do... but if i only have 12 hours to secure it at this price, then i will secure it now

My cruise -  Empress - has all shore excursions reduced, problem is there is no before price - only the sale price, so unless a person knew the pre sale price of every excursion before the "sale" there is no way of knowing what you are saving by booking now.

I'll just wait and book on board.

I don’t think the poster was being rude, he was just making the point to not fall into the trap that you have to buy something just because something is on “sale”. Royal is constantly having “sales”, so the key is buying something at a price you are comfortable paying. If you buy something like the drink package and later find a lower price, you can cancel your previous purchase and buy it again at the lower price.

We re booked on a 7 night Oasis leaving Bayonne 5/31/20. On our cruise...

1. Refreshment package is “on sale” for $22 per day. Yours is $26

2. Soda is “on sale” for $8.50. Yours is $10.50

3. The dining packages on my sailing appear to be the same as your sailing

Is there something specific I can price out for you?

Maybe i just felt patronised when it wasn't meant to be patronising. I am fully aware of the tricks of the trade. I was really after specific advice rather than life lessons and i apologise as i know the intentions where probably good and i misconstrued...

To be clearer on my side, i have done a cruise before and i think all of the decisions on what to, or not to book are borderline, these little feelings of getting a better price is what i need to tip me over the edge, not because i am gullible, just because I am more comfortable spending on 'luxuries' if i feel i got the best price i could on them.

Thanks for all replies so far, i didnt mean to sound ungrateful on my reaction to the first reply

Thank you, this actually helps a lot as the beverage packages are one of the main things i am trying to work out the best way to book, and i see from this that the ones available to me at the moment dont seem to be reduced so i dont need to panic book 🙂

I think the main things i definitely will have to pro book... is some kind of internet package, some kind (or more than one kind for family) of drinks packages.

The things that i dont know either way if i will book is excursions, speciality restaurants and photo packages. Maybe also arcade/casino packages if they become available at the right price

Ultimate dining package looks like a good deal to me. I have it booked for 199 on Anthem in July. Pretty sure 175 is the lowest above ever seen it for a sailing I’ve been on

Thank you, I will consider this as it does sound like a decent price if i make the most of the unlimited.

Any idea how it would work with an 8 year old included, i know speciality restaurants are just $10 per visit for kids, so i dont know if i just book the adult ones and then pay the $10 each time for my little one?

If you are on a 7 night, the only package for a good price is the unlimited dining. We are paying 179 on the Oasis this month. I have seen non alcoholic drink at 19.99, and soda at 6.99. You can purchase and cancel if prices go down. Check often tho.

Agree that it is a good price for the Ultimate dining package.  It is currently at $179 for our April Anthem sailing.   I don’t recall if they add the 18% service charge for the UK.  If those prices already include it, it is even a better price.

Also, in the UK, can you cancel and rebook like we can here n the States?  If not, that may influence your decision.

Only book the adults.  Pay for the kids on board.

If you feel that nothing on the cruise is worth it, then don't buy anything.  There is no rule that says you have to buy packages and excursions through the ship in order to enjoy your vacation.   And just because others can justify the price of items doesn't mean "we're rich".

The cruise planner for my sailing has "price shown reflects your discount" beside multiple items to suggest those items are "on sale".   As others have mentioned, if you book something now you should be able to cancel it and rebook if the prices go lower.

This certainly was not a dig at people who do justify the prices? it was a reply to someone who said just book anything thats worth it. i was stating i am not rich enough to just buy anything thats worth the money.... I dont know how this can have been taken offensively to someone who was not even in the conversation... but i apologise if you feel i somehow discriminated against you

This actually does help me, i cannot see anything on my side that says it is discounted, maybe the email they sent me was completely mis-information. I dont know

Our cruise in November just had a mini-sale.  Some of the prices went down and some of the prices actually went up.  Unfortunately, unless you keep screenshots or a list, it's hard to remember what the price was previously.

The Drink package had not budged from $69 p/d until this sale where it dropped to $60.  In December on Symphony, we paid $53 p/d with a drop to $49 on Black Friday.

The Refreshment Package has been $28 p/d and dropped to $22 p/d during the sale.  I don' t know about just the soda package.

The UDP has ranged from @$25-29 p/d for the November sailing.  I'm breaking it down to the per day pricing because it's only a 4-day.  But, that would work out to about $175-200 total.  In December we got a final price of $179 down from $199.  I agree with the advice about the kids, pay for them on board at each venue.

We didn't have to purchase internet on the Symphony, but in November the single device has been $15.99+.  It dropped to $14.99 during the sale.  The best deal so far has been the 4 device plan for $34 p/d (Surf/Stream).

Thrill Park tickets actually dropped about $20 each.  But, pricing for other excursions either stayed the same or went up slightly.
