Need help regarding cancelled cruise

We canceled our Alaskan cruise  for June earlier this week when we received the letter from NCL.  We were frustrated that our agent said we could only get credit because it is a large amount of money to not have access to for a while.  Does anyone have any advice on how we might get help on this.  We are now frustrated in realizing now that if it is canceled, we wouldn't get the refund option since we already canceled.

 

Thank you for any help, our agent has really let us down and no help.

Since you already cancelled, there is nothing that can be done.  Its a June cruise so it does not even fall into cruises that were cancelled by NCL so the 100% refund or 125% FCC would not even apply to it.

Agreed with above... not many options available to you.  However... 

 

This "suggestion" is based on the possibility (likelihood) that NCL will soon have to cancel all Alaska cruises departing before July because Canada has closed all ports until then.  (All NCL Alaska cruises must stop in Canada)   

 

Sooo... on the premise above, perhaps you could use your NCL credit to rebook a cruise departing before July.  When NCL cancels you can get your money.    Caveat... I have no idea if this would work... there may be NCL rules that prevent this from happening... just thinking out of the box.

OP already cancelled so technically not even on the June itinerary anymore....... so even if NCL did cancel Alaskan cruises the OP isn't a passenger listed.

I see what this is trying, but it would not work.  Because the rebook would be using a FCC, even if NCL cancels and offers a refund, that would just reinstate the FCC back to her account.  The OP would not get cash.

Bottom line is that you jumped the gun and cancelled. There was no reason to cancel. But you did and are stuck with the terms and conditions at time of cancellation.

 

If you had ShoreEx and other pre-pays, it only makes your situation worse.

Too bad you didn't ask sooner. Best advice would have been do nothing. I don't know the specifics of your case, but educated members here are very carefully addressing options to minimize the amount of FCC received. NCL has not been clear and there are unanswered questions about FCCs. This leads to consumers making I'll advised decisions.

 

Iam assuming you have no insurance.

 

Assuming you paid service charges related to free beverage or dining packages, the first thing to do is change the perk to internet a week or two prior to cancelling which results in a refund of those charges.

 

Then, wait a week or two and cancel the booking.

 

You'll have to fight with NCL about the legality of them to convert refundable, port charges and government taxes into nonrefundable gift certificates. I still don't think there is any legal basis to do this. Port charges and government fees are not NCLs money. NCL is just the middle man here. They need to refund those or turn the money over to the ports/governments.

 

If all else fails and you've acted in good faith, you may be able to open a dispute with your credit card company for the portion of the charge that is port charges and government taxes. Good luck! If this doesn't help you, hope it will help someone else.

Would they at least be allowed to get the 125% FCC?

NO,   it's a done deal.    They have already canceled,  and they agreed to the terms of the action.
