Show me a sushi "menu item," please?

I went back and dug up the pictures from Wasabi when I was on the Breakaway in 2019... This was back when you could pay a $7 upcharge and use an SDP credit and order as many items as you'd like... Of course, now there's no upcharge, but you can only order four items...

Okay.  You got me.  I do know something about it.  I tried a sampler once at a high end Japanese Restaurant and hated everything I sampled. 💩  Fair enough?  🙂

I don't like my fish raw, I know that makes me not sophisticated in this day and age.  LOL

I am trying to decide if I want to use one of my 2 SDP credits on the sushi restaurant. I understand it is limited to "4 menu items," but not sure how much food that would be. Four tiny pieces of sushi? Four platefuls of sushi? If I order a soup appetizer, does that count as one of the 4? Does anyone have knowledge/pics of this? Thanks!

Don't know what ship you are planning to be on.

However, 2017 Escape Food Republic menu below.

Later ships, Bliss for example, have the SCREENS on the tables with the menu and pictures and descriptions and self-ordering.

Love Food Republic for multiple visits.

I find this so odd.  Both in 2016 and in 2020 while on the escape we had the iPad menus.  I have never seen a paper menu at Food Republic.  They made major changes to the menu btw, took away the duck dumplings, I was a sad man when I saw that.

Yeah, I've heard that rats will eat just about anything but apparently they sometimes have an aversion to slimy, uncooked creatures from the sea. 🐟🐡🐙🐠  My daughter loves the stuff (hence, my interest in this thread).  That said, despite the fact that she'll drink beer with me, I can pretty much guarantee that she'll never be a rat....  (at least not a very "good" 🐀)

That's right, rats like cheese, not slimy, uncooked creatures from the sea.

It is odd, so we thought about it.

My wife and I look at our pictures from our cruise and they show the tabletop iPad menus (which we really like) at our Food Republic sit downs.

We believe we got this picture from the "restaurant menu display" in the lobby at the restaurant reservations promotional table when 1st boarding the cruise (at that time she would take pictures of all of the menus).

Make sense?  👍

Totally, and now I am going to look in December to see if they still have a menu like that at the door.  I aways thought it was odd there was no real menu you could get a picture of there.

For the record: Not all sushi is raw fish. Technically sushi is defined as sour rice…vinegar is added to make sushi rice. Sushi made with scallops are cooked scallops…same with shrimp. California rolls are made with veggies and crab stick(cooked pollock).

My wife has this discussion with me as well.  I have tried multiple "rolls" that have nothing raw in them, and they are just not my cup of tea.  But I do understand it is not all raw, just most of it.

Actually, sushi is not my cup of tea either. My wife, however, loves it…the rawer the better. So when she has sushi for lunch or dinner, I have something else. I just wanted to make sure we  were on the same page.

Identical pages, my wife also loves sushi.  :)

I love sushi (with multiple raw fish components and narrow rice 🙄) and all kinds of sashimi.

My wife, well, just prefers that I keep such on my side of the table.  😁

Are the sushi places typically open for lunch?

Depends on the ship. Food Republic is open for 90 minutes (12:00-1:30) on sea days. Wasabi is usually open a little longer... if I remember correctly.

Is Wasabi part of another restaurant?  I'm on the Encore in October and can't find it listed in the specialty dining options.  Thx.  (I don't touch sushi but my adult daughter lives on the stuff...)

Yes, on the Encore, there is no Wasabi. You need to go to Food Republic if you want sushi. You can go a la carte or your SDP will get you 4 dishes from the menu.
