sassy~one Posted December 31, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2021 I'm feeling a bit stressed. Please help if you can. I am booked Jan 9 Rotterdam, paid in full. Because of the level 4 CDC (which I do not agree with) if I cancel do I lose all my money? I have called my HAL vacation planner and He is out of the office until Monday. I'm stressed more about the plane and airports then the cruise. Thanks so much.
kacurl Posted December 31, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2021 We too are thinking to cancel this cruise and bought the cpp, cancel for any reason, did you buy insurance of any sort? Waiting until they open today. Good luck!

I have decided to just let it ride, knowing if I cancel right now I will lose the same amount as if I do not cancel. Thanks again.
Minoushka Posted December 31, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2021 Our govt too has discouraged cruising …mine is a casino cruise which I paidfor but not refundable .What happens if I cancel??Its not exactly my fault …i really wanted this vacation…
BobbiSox Posted December 31, 2021 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2021 With the way things are going, HAL may cancel the cruise themselves. I never know from one day to the next which ports have closed, but maybe HAL knows. It's a waiting game.

I think that’s the only way it’s going to happen, if the CDC forces it. The comment wasn’t directed at you about insurance in case it comes across that way. I’m just floored at the amount of people that don’t get insurance then they are upset the cruise line won’t give them a refund or fcc. Why would anyone buy insurance then? Just looking at the numbers on the ship they are probably lower than most places right now. That said I have no desire to be on the ship right now.
janmcn Posted December 31, 2021 #10 Share Posted December 31, 2021 The current info on HAL says you can cancel within 30 days of your cruise if you or a travel companion contracts Covid. Otherwise the regular cancellation rules apply.
DaveOKC Posted December 31, 2021 #11 Share Posted December 31, 2021 OP - does your credit card provide some travel insurance? You might want to check on that.

rothbury Posted December 31, 2021 #13 Share Posted December 31, 2021 Just looked at my last cruise contract. If YOU cancel the cruise with less than 30 days and no insurance; you lose 100% of your fare. If you had CPP Cancellation insurance and you cancelled up to the day before the cruise you would get your cruise fare back. However, the insurance premium would NOT be refunded to you. If HAL is forced to shutdown (highly unlikely) again, then it is up to HAL as to how they handle refunds or FCC.

Cash. To be very specific, your credit card. Edited December 31, 2021 by Florida_gal_50
rothbury Posted December 31, 2021 #16 Share Posted December 31, 2021 Either way you want it. Assuming you used a credit card it is credited back to that. On our March 6 cruise that was cancelled we actually lost quite a bit of FCC and FCD. We saw a credit on or account for the entire cost of the cruise and according to our PCC they no longer show FCD or the FCC we were given for a pandemic cancelled cruise. Seems to be a bit arbitrary the way they handle it. They originally deducted the insurance premium even though they were the ones who cancelled the cruise. We had to argue that point and it was credited back. A shore excursion was also cancelled and they charged a $15 per person cancellation fee for that. We are still trying to resolve that. cruiserchuck Posted December 31, 2021 #17 Share Posted December 31, 2021 I read on the NCL boards that NCL is allowing last minute cancellations with no penalty. You get a future cruise credit, not a refund. Hopefully HAL will follow suit.

Credit card insurance still requires a cancellation to be for a covered reason. You can find them listed in the benefits guide. Disinclination to travel is not one, even with the CDC advisory because it is not an order. In fact, one of the recommendations in the advisory itself is to buy insurance if you choose to cruise now.

For platinum, it’s a 90% refund of the fare ( minus the cost of platinum), when YOU cancel for any reason, unless something has changed. Been there, done that. Twice.
