We have cruised on Princess previously but not with the Medallion. Would someone be able to explain how playing in the casino is done using the medallion? Can you purchase casino credits with cash on board? Or is it all done from the card on your ship account? Any info would be appreciated. And yes, we are responsible casual gamblers. Just enjoy spending some time in the casino after the sun goes down. Thank you in advance.

For slots, you set up an account the first time you play. It will ask you how much you wish to charge to your room account. The last night the casino is open you will visit the casino cashier and cash out your “bank”. For table games, you give your medallion to the pit boss at a table. They will ask how much you want in chips. I believe the limit is $2-3k per day. Like a marker, 3 slips are brought to you to sign. 1 goes to record in your shipboard account, the 2nd gets dropped in the table Dropbox and you are given your chips. The 3rd is your copy. Chips can be cashed in anytime at the cashier. I know you can present cash at table games instead. IDK if slots take cash.

Just like with the old cruise card put now you touch your medallion to get to your casino account

Thank you. Are casino credits a thing of the past? I thought I remember you could add money separately to your casino account and not from card on file.

You can put cash into the slot machines

If you put in cash do you still need to tap your medallion and set up an account? Or do you get a ticket for remaining cash to take to another machine or to the cashier?

Slots

Place your medallion on the circle on the the slot machine, identical to when you inserted your cruise card. Follow directions to set up a casino account. Select the amount you wish to play, example $100. The $100 will be charged to your on board account and will transfer to your casino account. When finished you cash out your play by hitting the cash out button. Take your medallion to the cashier and get your cash. No requirement to cash out each time you play. You can hold $$ in your casino account for future play.

If you wish to play with cash set up your casino account as above. Instead of selecting an amount to be charged to your on board account insert cash.

Tables:

If you are playing tables you can drop cash on the table to purchase chips or you can place your medallion on the table and ask for chips to be charged to your on board account. When finished playing for the day or the cruise take the chips to the cashier to trade for cash or hold them for future play.

All casino accounts have to be cashed out on the last day of each voyage.

You always set up your casino account first because the only way to cash out is to your casino account.  You can purchase casino credits ahead of time on Princess’ website.  If you do that you will get cards in your cabin that you take to the cashier for cash to play with.  If you play enough you may get some free play in your next cruise that shows up when you create your casino account.

Are you seeing that currently? A few of us were wondering what happened to that option a few weeks ago and nobody could find it.

Nah, that's applying for a line of credit (as in borrowing money), a totally different beast.

There used to be (pre-C, at least) an option on Princess where you could buy vouchers for the casino, the way you could get a cake or preload OBC, that people were wondering about, and what looked like the prior poster was referring to.

Yes, some posters on here, trying to be helpful, post something they last experienced and are not up-to-date.  I don't recall the date (but at least since Covid pauses), Princess has removed the option to buy Casino Credits in the Personalizer.

You can still buy OBC (max $1,500 USD) in the Personalizer which can be used for anything.  As has been well documented, playing in the Casino will have the amounts withdrawn in chips, slot credits, or poker table stash all charged to the stateroom account and therefore the purchased OBC can offset that.  Think of it as a way to get extra cash to the ship without carrying it.

Oh, sure. I was just hoping that they may have reinstated the option, or had it buried somewhere that I missed since you could put more than the 1500 current-OBC-limit on it, and there are reasons why it would be preferable to preload it than bring cash, establish a line of credit, or deposit front money.

Three problems with Medallion:

1.  Slots....have a time limit.  You need to "watch" for warning, otherwise it will log you out automatically.  It seems to "remember" your account and winnings.  But you have to log back in again.  It is a pain in the tush.

2.  Account will NOT carry over to b2b cruise.   You have to cash out and open a new account for your next cruise.

3.  Be watchful of casino days.  You must cash out when the casino is open.  On most cruises, it is the last night/sea day.  I read somewhere that if Victoria is your last port, you actually have to cash out before Victoria.  Not the same for Ensenada.

If you have a balance of $25 or more and don't cash out by the final casino closing time, supposedly they'll mail you a check.  Any amounts <$25 will be donated to charity.  I was shocked when the cashier on Majestic told me that.  $25 seems awfully high.  And if you charge to your cabin and win, you have to cash out at the cashier, but if you want to apply your winnings back to your cabin charges, you have to take the cash to Guest Services.  What a pain.

I actually just checked and I didn’t see it.  We have done six cruises since the reopening and I could have sworn I saw that option available but I don’t see it on our upcoming cruises.  Sorry for the misinformation.  I always found that a good way to budget my casino play in the past.

On your next cruise, it shows you can purchase OBC for the cruise - which can be used in the casino, but no more than $1500 per cabin - not per person

Warning:

When we were on the Majestic they had a bug in the system -

example:  You sit at the machine, you hit the login and say you want to play $40 in the machine.  After 10 - 20 spins, you decide you don't like the machine and you hit "cash out" or "collect" - the left over money is suppose to go back to your account - watch to make sure it does.  A couple of times it did not and we had to get the slot attendant to check the machine.
