sorry to hear you are sick Steve. Hope you enjoyed every moment of your cruise and that you recover quickly.

Thank you, Carolyn.  Like Tracie I hope to meet you someday on a sailing.

Hi friends.

I promise to write more in a few days… here is the upshot.
Jon feels much much better today.  He attributes this to 4 vaccines.  I can’t argue.

I tested this morning.  I was negative. We rented a car and drove home for 10 1/2 hours.  Jon did all of the driving.  With Covid. Uphill. Both ways. Bare foot. In the snow. He is my hero.

As the day went on, I got more and more sick.  Aches, headache, nausea, low grade fever, no appetite,  and the cough.

I tested again this evening-  and that is that.  No surprise. I am positive. I am so grateful that I am home and in our bed.

When I feel a bit better, I will share about how quarantine worked.  I pinky swear.

For now, all I want to do is sleep.

More later-

TL

Jon is a trooper!  Glad you made it home safely but sorry that you tested positive too.  It was wonderful to meet you both (albeit briefly) and I hope you feel better soon AND that we'll see you on another cruise.  Although I imagine the latter is the furthest thing from your mind right now.

I started having symptoms and when I got home tested positive.  My symptoms are a lot like yours.  Like Jon I have had 4 vaccines so I too am hoping that is preventing things from getting any worse.

Oh no Steve, so sorry to hear that you are ill now.  I sure hope that you shake it soon.  Thank you for keeping track of our roll call and it was very nice to meet you!

Thanks, Julie.  I enjoyed meeting and talking with you.  Like Jon I am double vaccinated and double boostered so hopefully I will shake this soon.  At least it doesn't seem to be getting worse.

Hope it stays that way.  I am also double boosted and my husband has had five shots (2 from AstraZeneca vaccine study + 2 "regular" Moderna + 1 Moderna booster).  Hoping all of that keeps us safe but it just stinks to hear that even 3 CC'ers managed to catch it during the cruise.

Has anyone read an update about Tracie Lynn’s recovery?

No I haven't but am hoping that she stops back by to provide an update!  Hope she and Jon are doing better by now.

When I got home I tested positive for COVID and went on self-quarantine.  After 2 days my symptoms subsided and by day 6 I tested negative.  I talked to Jon on Wednesday and we shook hands.  I don't know if that was a contributing factor or not.  One other person on the cruise that I had contact with is now in self-quarantine.  I wonder how many cases there were while we were onboard and how many cases showed up later.

Day 9,482, 623

June 13, 2022

Home

Hi Friends-

I am so sorry that it has taken me a minute to get back to you all... today is the first day in a long time that have felt well enough to sit at my computer for a bit.

So this is the news... COVID is no joke. I know for some that it is like a cold or the flu and that is a good thing. For us, it is like a Mac truck without breaks came steamrolling through our lives. And this is WITH the anti-virals (Paxlovid).

I am so grateful we decided to drive home instead of stay in a quarantine hotel. It has been so nice to recover in our house, near our friends, with our dog... Honestly, I am not sure how Jon managed that 10 hour drive. It is heroic to me.

I really appreciate the texts, IM's, CC messages, and emails. I have said it before, and this only reinforces the idea- you all are a sort of family to me. I am so grateful for the kind words.

I want to get this posted, and at some point I will come back and talk about our experience in quarantine on the ship. The upshot is that they treated us great- but it was still isolation.

In the meantime, we are cancelling all future cruises, which makes me really sad- but we are just not ready to go through this again. We shall see what the future holds.

More later (I promise)-

Tracie-Lynn

Thanks for the update Tracie-Lynn…was getting concerned about your recovery but hesitated to ask not wanting to infringe upon your privacy. Take care of your health & hopefully neither of you will have any longterm health issues. 🙏

No need to apologize.  I'm just glad you came back to let us know how you're doing.  And I hope you keep feeling better.  I can completely understand not wanting to go anywhere near a ship after what you've been through.

So glad you're doing better!  We've never met but I have checked daily to see if you are alright.  I agree Covid is a very serious virus and thank you for posting your experience.  For the first time since forever, I did not buy an FCC and will put off cruising when, and if, people take it more seriously and wear masks/practice better hygiene.  It will be very hard not to cruise for awhile.  Being on my toes and avoiding crowded spaces wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped.  Got off the ship a week after you and am still testing negative...fingers crossed.

Hope you have a speedy and complete recovery.  Bless you for posting.  Take care.

Glad to read this post. I’m sorry you both felt so lousy.
Is it just the travelling/ flying and the isolation time in general that has been enough to put you off?  I actually just read that you did not test positive until you got home, but stayed with your spouse who did get it just about 5 days in. Crazy times, for sure. I guess it’s possible he got on the ship with it, based on ot just being a few days in. No one knows for sure how people get it, and that’s the scary part.
I hope you get your sea legs back one day!
I look forward to reading about what you really thought when you are up to it.

We were also on this sailing and my SO tested positive for Covid two days after the cruise.  This was our twelfth cruise since the restart (on four different cruise lines), and the first time either of us picked up any kind of illness.  The surprising part is that we were together at least 23.5 hours a day and I am still testing negative ten days later.  He was not seriously ill, just light congestion and fatigue, and we will continue to cruise.

Sorry to hear that happened to your SO.  That makes 4 positive tests that have been reported from this cruise, better than some cruises but it still stinks that this happened to anyone.  We self tested 5 and 7 days after disembarkation and somehow avoided it even though we did spend a decent amount of time in the casino (masked).  Hope he is doing better now.

Julie, add one more.  I found out from someone I met on the cruise that she tested positive a few days after she got home.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were many others.

I have gone back to read some roll calls on some sailings and they are quite revealing.

Glad you escaped it.

Sorry for all of those who tested positive. Hopefully they are on their way to recovery.

Greetings from another Bradenton cruiser!  We were on the week before and my DH tested positive as soon as we got home.  Like you I never tested positive despite being together constantly (especially in the confines of the car on the drive home).  His case too was mild with a sore throat and light cough.  This was our third cruise since restart with a b2b in September.
