I just bought 100 shares today at $8.57 and will send in my obc request shortly.  Good deal (I hope)!

Someone reported that they were turned away because they sent a document showing the very recent purchase.  That was done in error but to be safe It might be better to wait until you have a statement which shows ownership and you can redact the purchase date .  You should be receiving a statement soon since we are closing July now

Per the most recent vote:  The benefit is applicable on sailings through July 31, 2023 aboard the brands listed below.

Just got stock OBC for casino comped cruise (well, third paying passenger plus taxes of course). FYI.

Interesting....  wonder if having a paying passenger with you helped.  They turned me down in Dec. and I submitted as normal.

yes, no clue here. But in reality I do not see how amount of OBC should correlate with the fare you pay. Even for regular priced 7 days cruise some sailings are $250 a person and some $900 a person for the same inside cabin. That OBC should be based on your stock only. I also do not know how they see what was paid on a given booking. Even comped cruises billed at full price with casino department then paying the difference. So theoretically it is full paid booking. I had the same inconsistency with kids sail free promos. Some were applied to casino fares and some were not. Why? Who knows why...

I wonder if it is different employees interpreting the rules for obtaining OBC with a "discounted" cruise differently. Some posts that say they were turned down, but then received the OBC when applying again would seem to validate this theory.

Just received this from HAL concerning my upcoming cruise (I am on a casino free cabin deal but paying quite a bit to upgrade it):

Thank you for contacting Holland America Line in regard to your Carnival Shareholder benefit being applied to your reservation XXXXX based on your status as a CCL stockholder. Unfortunately, we are unable to apply the shareholder benefit due to the fare your reservation is booked under. The shareholder benefit is not combinable with reduced-rate promotions or guests travelling under an employee, interline, or friend and family type fares.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. We are looking forward to welcoming you on board in the near future.

Kindest regards,

Stacey

How do I pull up my booking confirmation on the website or app to view the OBC for my USMC veteran and our shareholder benefit?

You don't.  My experience is that you can only see it on the confirmation your TA sends you.

I requested the shareholder benefit via email on August 1 and received confirmation yesterday, August 4. That was considerably faster than I expected after reading the experiences of others. I am posting it as a data point for those interested in the benefit.

  • 2 weeks later...

What is the quickest example that can be submitted?

Please provide by email, fax or by mail your complete legal name, reservation/booking number, ship and sailing date, along with proof of ownership of Carnival Corporation or Carnival plc

shares (for example, photocopy of shareholder proxy card, a dividend tax voucher or a current brokerage or nominee statement with your current mailing address and your brokerage account number blacked out) no later than 4 weeks prior to your sail date to your travel agent or to the cruise line you have selected below.

When would you get a proxy card?

I'm not sure I completely understand the question, but the easiest submission is probably a copy of your latest brokerage statement. A proxy card would need to be requested through your broker, but your statements are either mailed to you or available online.

You only get the proxy card for the annual meeting and voting period.

The Shareholder Benefit form says the OBC cannot be used for gratuities.  Does anyone have any recent experience with this?  We have always had the OBC applied on Carnival and Princess, although it's been a while since we sailed them.

Whenever I have the shareholder OBC applied gratuities we’re deducted from that amount.

We also have never had a problem on any cruise line having the shareholders' OBC applied to gratuities

Wow!  It will be my first time on HAL, although I've sailed Princess and Carnival.  I emailed just the first page of my brokerage statement (amounts of our investments blacked out) and the page with our stocks (account number blacked out) yesterday evening in an email, along with cruise conf number, ship, dates and my full name and I got confirmation of OBC within 4 hours!  It said it would be applied when we embark.

No form I have ever seen.  I made up my own FAX cover letter form with all the information HAL asks for and just use it every time.  Works great.  Of course, be sure to include a copy of your stock holdings.

I include my stock statement and my cruise reservation confirmation along with my letter.  I also include the ship, dates, etc, but that is also on the reservation.  Just faxed mine today.  They prefer FAXES.

I picked up 100 shares today.  Already up 4%. The stock is cheap right now.

Correct.  But, it's price has been lower not too many days ago.  If you are a buy and hold investor and endure the ups and downs of its price, I believe, as a long time CCL investor, you (we) will be rewarded.  It's going to take quite awhile.
