Live Reports - Cruising on Coral Princess September 2022.

@OzKiwiJJ

I don't usually take a lot of notice of the jewellery shops, apart to have noticed they have some nice stuff, some exxxy stuff, and watches. Do they have any pearl earrings, pendants, necklaces under $1K?

We have our 30th onboard next weekend, and I am thinking it would be a nice touch vs shopping at the local jewellers this week.

The only places for jewellery is Effy which I'm not sure is good value for money, or the main store. They do have some nice Swarovski jewellery but I don't know about whether that includes pearls, and they may not be real pearls, just costume jewellery.

Personally I'd go to a jeweller you know and trust.

Thanks.

I looked up the Effy website this morning, and they do have some rather cool looking designs. I did notice there is lots of 14K gold compared to most jewellers, but they did have some pearls in their range.

Swarovski is mostly cosmetic and plated, so not part of my plan.

I presume your wife doesn’t follow your posts if it’s a surprise 🥰🥰🥰

I’m usually with the riff raf and don’t mind at all 🥰

My wife reckons she married a riff raff so she is permanently with them.😂

I type in things I like so I get their ads.

Lol, Herbert Adams, Mrs Macs. Will see if I can get a better wall from that.

Princess, Cunard, Carnival, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean - oh yeah, I get those already.

I wandered into the Effy shop on the Coral Princess but I didn't intend to buy anything. When I admired some pieces, the sales assistant told me she could give me a better price. The price kept dropping, but I still didn't buy. 🙂

They don't specialise in pearls. I have a lot of pearls and have found that the best place to buy them is in Lombok - an excuse for another cruise when that area opens up. When you are shopping for pearls, be aware that the 'Majorica' brand are man-made 'beads' made to look like pearls.

True. Barb doesn't wear a lot of pearls, but if they have something she likes, we wont be in Lombok for our 30th. I had considered a gift of Norwegian Pearl, as she will be in Sydney for our anniversary. Unfortunately, Sydney Nova Scotia was a bit too far off the radar.

Perhaps I can just tell her the cruise is for our Coral anniversary, but getting it 5 years early. I guess that means I will be keeping an eye out for whatever Coral Princess is going to be doing in October 2027.

I have a general idea of the right price of pearls and pearl jewellery, and if they don't have something suitable, I will hunt around our local jewellers the following week.

I didn't wear pearls at all until I started buying them probably 20 years ago. Now I have quite a collection. 😁

Great to finally see Coral Princess pointing toward PNG. Enjoy your day at Conflict Islands tomorrow. They put up this pic on their social media a couple of days ago.

We're looking forward to visiting there tomorrow. Today we're enjoying a beautiful day at sea. Warm, with just enough breeze on our balcony for comfort. A few clouds so it isn't too hot. Slight seas. Perfect!

Well we did get to see the Conflict Islands ... from the ship. Unfortunately the conditions were not suitable for safe trips ashore - the jetty there is a pontoon so vulnerable to sea and wind conditions. After sending a tender ashore to check things out the Captain and shore officials made the call to cancel or visit there. Plus it was raining! 😪 Ah well, maybe another time!

Actually we arrived there later than originally scheduled. The ship ended up having to go to Alotau to complete formalities so we knew we would arrive late. Princess agreed with PNG officials to dock there at 5am but in the end the officials didn't turn up until 6am this delaying our arrival even further. But it was all in vain as the weather decided not to cooperate either.

So we're back at sea making our way down to Sydney. We've actually only been off the ship once since we left Sydney. We didn't bother going ashore at Brisbane, Airlie Beach and Port Douglas, and only popped ashore in Cairns for a quick fish and chip lunch at a cafe close to the cruise terminal.

Sad news that Julie. Enjoy the trip back down the coast. More rain on the way.

That is a shame Julie.  It is always disappointing.  The only thing worse is when the first group lands and they then stop further landings.

Fish and  chips in Cairns would have been nice.  I tried three fish and chip shops in Cairns before my cruise, as I love tropical fish.
