Ships Arriving in Melbourne --31/10 to 1/11

No webcams, so relying on my camera across the Bay.

 

1. Pacific Adventure 31/10 at outer west berth Station Pier

2. Pacific Encounter at outer east Station Pier

3. Carnival Splendor moved into outer east in the middle of the night

4. Pacific Encounter moved to Web Dock (commercial dock)

 

As P&O have moved to bigger ships, none can go under the Westgate to the other commercial docks

Nice photos.How’s the weather in Melbourne today?.  I read it was supposed to be cold, wet and possible hail.

 

We were due to have an outdoors Melbourne Cup lunch today but the gusty wind here in Sydney meant it had to be moved indoors.

Now the Tassie Ferries have been relocated to Geelong area, there is another berth available for cruise ships.

We're coming on a coach through Ballarat tomorrow afternoon (for a tea stop) on the way to Halls Gap. Cold is OK as long as it's not too wet.

Unfortunately you can only fit one large and one small ship either side at the moment. 

East side of Station pier is total 443 metres and west side is 495 metres.

Pacific Encounter is 290 metres as is Carnival Splendor so total of 580 metres.  Pacific Explorer is 266 metres so even with her it would be too short.

Maybe we need to resurrect Princes Pier.

Princes Pier was fully restored about 10 years ago. The restoration won several architectural and historical awards.  It is 580 metres long.

They didn't restore it as a working pier.  It is now an arts precinct and the gate house is a museum.  360 metres of piles were just left and capped in white.  Just a touristy place.  Pity.  You can just make it out in the photo above to the left of Encounter.  If you enlarge it you can see the gatehouse.

Grand Princess leaves Melbourne this afternoon for a round New Zealand cruise. If I'm reading the PoM schedule correctly, this is the first post-Covid cruise originating from Melbourne. Bit fuzzy as I took the pic from Webb Dock lookout.
