Royal class aft PH Suites

Dolphin and Baja are the only decks with an overhang and Dolphin has the largest aft balcony along with the "Owners Suites" on Emerald deck (which have no cover). We stayed in Baja 735 on Enchanted and the balcony was perfect! Here is a short video clip showing our balcony and another pic looking at the profile of the aft balconies on the Regal Princess.

Not sure what cabins on the Carib deck you are asking about. The PH suites on Riviera are the ones adjacent to the concierge lounge. The lounge was wonderful but those Riviera cabins are definitely smaller (especially the balconies) than the aft suites. The suite manager on the Enchanted was kind enough to let us tour all of the different suite categories  (including Sky Suite), since the ship was barely 50% full. We are on the Discovery Princess’s first Alaska cruise of the season next April 30th and she is basically a duplicate of the Enchanted.

I am looking at aft cabins for our AK cruise on the Discovery. I would like some overhang over the balcony. I couldn't tell whether the aft cabins on the Rivera deck have a overhang. I choose the Dolphin deck. Thank you and happy Thanksgiving

While we like the massive aft balconies, we didn't like the layout of the aft suite as well. The mid ship Riviera deck PH suites have a great open floor plan, where's the aft ones feel more cramped in the bedroom and living room. YMMV.

Do you know about the carib deck?

Caribe corner aft suites have minimal overhang, as you can see in the photo above.  We've been in then a few times and doesn't bother us at all..

We love the layout with the bedroom much more separated from the sitting area, works way better for us than the square smaller midship suites.  The wraparound balcony is plenty big enough for us in Caribe..

We were on Sky in D726 2 weeks ago and it was lovely.  It rained a few days and our loungers stayed dry since we kept them under the overhang when not in use.  We could move them out to the open when we used them.  The Dolphin PH balcony is Huge compared to the Owners suite 1 deck below.  We love to spend time on the balcony on sea days.

Be aware that if you’re non smokers, you may have a problem with this cabin. Crew and passengers can smoke all the way aft on deck 7. The smell of cigarette smoke often wafts up to the balcony and sometimes even into the cabin of D727. We sailed the Discovery in D727 on our last cruise, and our balcony was unusable.

I was very worried about this on our cruise 2 weeks ago in D726 on Sky since I have severe asthma.  I could not walk within 20 feet of the casino due to the cigarette smell, but had no problem on our balcony.  We spent a lot of time out there since we were keeping away from any crowded areas on the ship.  No smell of smoke at all.

Hi everyone, we were in B735 on the Majestic and loved it. The deck did have some soot issues but our room steward cleaned everything every day. I posted this short video on you tube

Thank you for the video, I'm going to be in D727, last aft left. Now I'll worry about the smoke wafting up from deck 7.

It's not smoke from smokers - it's soot from the funnels. Been an ongoing problem on early Royal class ships... Room stewards are aware and work hard to keep furniture and deck clean, and there's mats inside the two sets of sliding doors.. don't sit in anything white or light colored without a towel down!

Have you stayed in D727?  Did you smell cigarettes' smoke all day coming from below?

D726 is on the port side of the ship where no smoking is allowed on deck 7. D727 is on the starboard side where crew and passengers are allowed to smoke on deck 7.

I was recently in D726 on the Discovery, only smelled smoke once, and it was faint.

Smoke from smokers and soot are two different issues. Soot on the balcony will be cleaned up by the cabin steward, they can do nothing about the cigarette smoke.

It was soot from the ship it itself, not people smoking cigarettes. I walked outside with my white slippers once before he cleaned and I learned my lesson.

You will love the balcony, spectacular views!

PS  bring some tape to cover the light motion sensors, the lights would all go on if you decide to visit the bathroom at night.
