Royal Caribbean is going after a new cruiser. Not someone has been cruising them for years. They’re going under after a younger ,  family oriented demographic. Those folks don’t know what they missed so they don’t miss it.

But, the younger folks are getting poorer and poorer. Yes, some, a very few are strongly advancing, no doubt.  My opinion - They need to keep going after the old money.  The younger folks are hanging on by a thread.

Not happy about this either, as I love live music.  But, if they are doing this, they should make the Jazz on 4 the smoking casino and make the main casino smoke free.  I can't even stand walking through the casino at times because of all the drifting smoke. Just my 2 cents, not that it means anything to RC.

Then, not necessarily you, people will be complaining about walking by the casino and smelling smoke.  It's a no win as far as that is concerned.  My anecdotal statistical analysis, LOL, of this subject is that most complainers of the smoke smelling casino is that they want a casino all to their own, something they don't want to HAVE to walk through.  Well, now they're going to  have it.  The following is not meant to be a wise guy comment but it holds true now:  If you don't want to smell smoke in the casino, don't walk through or gamble in the mixed (smoking/non-smoking) casino.

Also, if I remember correctly (on Oasis Class ships), the entrance to the Jazz venue is in the entertainment neighborhood  where hundreds, including young families, at a time congregate to get into various venues.  I can only imagine the complaining if it is turned into a smoking casino.  However, it's possible that the entrance to the new casino wouldn't be in the entertainment neighborhood. Who knows, it's a wait and see type of thing.

I guess, for once, we will have to agree to disagree.  The middle class is being squeezed out and not upward either.

No, I don't want to turn this into a political debate.

So they aren't removing any live music, just removing an underutilized venue and expanding a heavily used venue (casino) into it.

Well, they *might* be removing 3 or 4 that made up the jazz club band.  They could show up around the ship, or not.  We will see.  Other groups have gone- like the Rosairo strings.

But compared to our last Oasis cruise, it *seemed* that they added a small cover band that was not part of our previous cruises.   While they were there before, the cover band was playing more than in the past- instead of in one of the lounges, they were out in the promenade as well.

For sure, I don't see this as some massive cut in live music.  Just a change.

I don’t see that many in suite lounge., I think comedy club is empty some nights that could be a good spot for jazz. Even though we are diamond plus , we now prefer celebrity and MSc yacht club because of suite perks.

Yep, maybe combine the Comedy Club with the Jazz venue and make it a multi-use venue.

Does this mean that the original casino will now be completely open to smoking, instead of just half of it?

Who knows.  We probably won't know until it happens.  Or it leaks out.

No, they are simply expanding the Casino.  No one knows what the configuration will be.  Will they completely close the entrance or another entrance to the casino.  Therefore, possibly 4 entrances/exits to the casino.

Regarding smoking, I have more of a problem with the smoking section by the pool.  I make sure that I get a lounger on the opposite side.  They should place a Plexiglass wall to prevent the smell from drifting to the pool area.

If I recall, the only nearby venue is the Ice arena.

Suite lounge pays for itself. The jazz club doesn't.

Allure sailed 100% cap last week in January with fewer families than most out of Galveston .. I know the companies are trying to make up for last 2 years but I would think filling the ships would be an indication that things were on the right track and to leave it alone?

Just curious how are you able to tell what capacity a ship is at?  Do they announce it?

If you can afford it go for the gusto.😂

I’ll be sorry to see the Jazz club go.  I missed it in Wonder compared to her sisters.

At least for the US market, perhaps RCI has it backwards.  Less than 13% of adults smoke and the percentage is falling.  I won’t render an opinion on ships in the Asian or European markets, as I do not know them as well.  For RCI for the US market, the company might be better off making the big casino nonsmoking; they would please the majority of the guests who are nonsmokers, and they might draw gamblers who now avoid the casino due to too much smoke even on the nonsmoking side.  (IDK, but perhaps allow vaping on one side on one side of the main casino?) Give the small casino to the small percentage of the population that smokes. Proportionate spaces.

A 2008 study in NV casinos showed the % of gamblers who smoked in major casinos was similar % smokers in US population.  There may be extra smokers hanging around casinos on board because it is one of the few smoking venues, not because they are all big gamblers…meanwhile the current smoking drives away other potential gamblers.

I am not interested in gambling in the least.  All the ships could end that and I wouldn't even notice them gone!  LOL  My idea of gambling is to invest $20 on the machines and once when I hit a jackpot of $59, I cashed and ran!  But I detest smoke in any form.

I love jazz, but the best I've heard was just a quintet of house orchestra who played in Bolero's on Odyssey last month.  They were fantastic and were in Bolero's 3 evenings, we went every night they were there and loved them.  Hope the sisters employ this for jazz at least.  I like all music, but country the least and I'm a Texas native, I grew up with the Beatles and Beach Boys.

I’m sorry to see the jazz club go. I understand royal needs to recoup lost monies from the shutdown, but it’s starting to look like cruises are quietly becoming all about drinking and  gambling. Again, I understand why they’re doing it.  Funny how Disney doesn’t seem to be like that, and even though they cost significantly more, they’re thriving.

There may eventually be a breaking point for us, and we’ll either change cruiselines, or change the types of vacations.  I would hate that. ☹️

They should put the smokers in the new enclosed small space and have the main casino as smoke-free on Oasis ships. They're in the minority, so why do cruise lines continue to cater to them?

Could you imagine if instead of the Jazz Club, they expanded the casino to the D Lounge because of lack of attendance.😂

I could.  Why?  Because I'm now D but don't plan on using it, at least not much. I like to mingle with my peeps.

This is not an argument. But, you may be happy but many others won't.  So many folks are so rabid anti-smokers, the mere knowledge that there is smoking going on, even if not detectable, they would be yelling and screaming at the top of their capabilities.  For some, enough is never enough.
