Specialty Dining Free Wine

For our upcoming Royal cruise we have booked embarkation day specialty dining and have received the coupon for a free bottle of "wine of the day."

What exactly does that mean? Will we have a choice of at least red or white?

What wine have you received with your embarkation day specialty dining?

I’m curious.  Did you book the dinner using the app?  How did you receive this coupon?  Email? Are you using a TA that arranged it?
thanks

All good questions.

Yes, the dining was booked in the app awhile ago. About four weeks before  our upcoming sailing, I received an email from Princess with my "digital coupons." There are 19 discount coupons covering the shops, casino, spa, photo gallery, etc. The only one that will interest us is the free bottle of wine with an embarkation day specialty dinner, which we had already booked.

We are booked with a TA, and the email made reference to "more than $900 in savings from Princess and your travel advisor."

We have used one of these coupons a couple of different times, and have been offered a choice of either one white or one red.  I do not recall what the white option was, but the red we've ordered has usually been Aussières, which is a cabernet sauvignon-syrah blend that's also included in the Princess Plus package price range.

Okay that helps me to understand it better. That’s the new version of the old coupon books many TA’s would offer with their discount deals. Back then they would be waiting for us in our cabin when were embarked.
You don’t typically get a bottle of wine for simply dining in a specialty restaurant on the first day and at first was shocked it’s now being offered. It’s not really but instead is a perk from your TA

thanks and enjoy

That’s exactly what we were offered, as well… red or white.  We took the red one as the white one was Canyon Road.

My wife has correctly pointed out (fairly often lol) that I've spent way too much money on wine over the years. Rest assured the vast majority of ship-board wines are under $20 in the grocery store. So if you like a good wine while onboard, swing by a local shop before embarkation and pick up a couple bottles.

the couple of bottles to be consumed 'in your cabin' or pay corkage - maybe

OUCH ??

" Munson screamed. "We just dumped it over! 26-24! We just stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose! We just crushed their face!"

If ya drop $3k on a cruise, a few bucks for corkage is nothing. #RayGoff #rocksnglasshouses

And very often the corkage fee is more than offset by the savings of bringing your own onboard as opposed to buying the exact same vintage onboard!  Especially considering you can still take two on embarkation day without having to pay any corkage fee.

Like you & Cruise Raider that’s what we had on the first night of Discovery’s inaugural cruise.

I assume the answer is “duh, no” but … if the first night specialty dinner is complimentary because of being in a suite, could one still use the wine coupon?

Yes 😁
