pays much better than any job most people could get at home.

You're neglecting that the cost of taking one of these shipboard jobs is being away from your entire life fomr 6-8 months at a time. There's no amount of money that can truly fairly compensate for that, and I'd bet any cruise line CEO would dodge the crew staffing and pay quesiton if they really could.

I think I would ask the CEO what his vision is for the future of cruising? Is it mega-ship style family vacations, or is it smaller, more intimate experiences where passengers are able to explore different areas? How does the future of cruising take into account the long term environmental and economic impacts that cruise lines have on the communities they port in?

Excellent questions.

So in other words, staffing issues have nothing to do with the pay. You are supporting my point, then.

- Casino offers seem to be the norm, are there any plans for similar offers for people who spend an equivalent amount such as in the spa?

- Is it normal for Carnival's Customer Service to not respond, or know how to deal with issues?

- Will Carnival's "Great Vacation Guarantee" return?

- Whats the hold up on Europe, 2024?

That's the opposite of what I said...

I said that no amount of pay can truly compensate the folks working on ships for leaving their homes for the duration of their contract, i.e. their pay very clearly doensn't match up with the job they have.

This same basic question has been asked and stickied on several cruise line boards.  The OP is a member of CC's staff and is legitimately gathering questions for a Q&A session that features all the CEOs of our favorite cruise lines.  I remain hopeful that some of these Qs will be asked; I think they would make for interesting and informative answers.

Seriously, I wish Cruise Critic the best of luck in getting a response. As CC and Carnival have become separated (Divorced) when it comes down to cruising and information. Names could be brought up as to why, but it's a done deal. 😉

I watched and saw ceremonies for Celebration, when she left England and arrived in New York.  Anything planned for Venezia like that?  Thank you.

Celebration didn't go to New York. Her transatlantic started in England and ended in Miami. Venezia is scheduled to do a transatlantic from Barcelona to New York in May.

Ok, I will reword my question.  Celebration did go to Miami and received ceremonies.  Now when Venezia goes to New York arriving in 13 June. Will Venezia receive ceremonies like the Celebration did?

Why not make Loft 19 on the new MG class child-free?  When we are paying $2,000 plus per week for a Loft 19 cabana, it would be much more pleasant to have a calm, relaxing environment.  Plus there is really nothing for kids to do up there.

Last week there was a family group that appeared to have two (of 4) cabanas in a row (#'s 6-7-8-9). They had a couple of very small children there, and had a small inflatable pool (all of perhaps 3') which they had somehow filled with a few inches of water. Imagine being right next to them, trying to enjoy the tranquil experience. We booked #5 for our May Celebration sailing, to avoid playing the "neighbor lottery".

While prices continue to creep up in response to the bad policies of the government that are understandable, recently I have been seeing mandatory service charge being added to paid food and beverages ordered on board at a fat 18%. Can we remove that?

Was I misinformed that the rather generous gratuities added to my bill at the end of the cruise  compensated tipped positions?

Removing the service charge? You can try. Good luck with that.

Beverage servers and room service do delivery personnel are NOT part of the gratuity pool that's covered by the per day "mandatory" gratuities the cruise line charges.

Another thing to consider when looking at lack of crew is how many former crew members now found other jobs. And those other jobs might not pay as much, but they also do not force you to be away from your family for 6 months.

Nobody forces anybody to do anything as far as I know.

Spent a lot of time up there on two cruises, one on MG and one on Celebration.  There was no kids running around to spoil your time.

I agree with you as you are replying to my post as to crew members deciding to work on ships.

However, I disagree with the premise of "nobody forces anybody to do anything". As just one example, passengers are forced to participate in whatever form of muster drill if being used on a ship.

In case you want to argue, no one forces anyone to take a cruise, we are all forced to pay taxes.

OK, that may get you out of paying taxes, but you will still have to bring your tax exempt form when shopping.

And it won't get you out of the muster drill!

But, as least Cheryl's letter from her Dr gets us out of the sardine drill if/when it returns. Much better to sit in an inside lounge than huddle under those lifeboats in the heat.

Yes, though -- there's some things in life you can't fully "get out of" !!

Well, the old saying is you can't get out of death and taxes. Unless your new church you just created guarantees you eternal life, I guess the death part still applies.

No dog in this fight and do not want to argue, just making the point on crew’s options.
