Smoking on Oasis

I'm not sure that it's a designated area but last month we were on Oasis and one day there were a bunch of smokers in the Solarium Bar back near the sliding glass doors. As Solarium Bar frequent flyers that week we hadn't noticed them before and didn't notice them the rest of the week.

Probably got busted.

Smokers and vapers  are using the casino as a smoking lounge when the casino is closed to gambling.

Well that shouldn't bother the non smokers, since they would not be in the casino when closed to gambling. 🤷‍♂️

Could be. There were so many tables occupied by smokers we were surprised.

Was this on turnaround day? Last March on Oasis the staff put us up there the morning we disembarked due to some reason, that I cannot remember.

The stench doesn't stay in the casino. It drifts out and up into the other surrounding venues. I don't blame the smokers for this, it's all on RC.

No. It was during the week. Now I'm wondering if they allow that when refueling.

A person might be seen smoking during refueling but it is highly unlikely that is permitted with the knowledge of any experienced crew. I have never been aboard any small, ship, or vessel that allowed smoking during refueling. Most insurance companies will refute a claim if they have an accident onboard knowing the activity was illegal at the time. Needless to say, a fire onboard a vessel can be fatal. In most cases, you fight it until the ship is no longer viable.

Imagine someone throwing a butt that lands on the fueling barge. Diesel fuel and kerosene do not "ignite" as easily as lighter grade fuels like gasoline but the hazard is there.

On Oasis last week..smoking was in casino and port side by the pool under cover. However as noted the smoke drifts out of casino and across the pool. I think royal could do it better tbh to accommodate smokers and non smokers. Ive seen airports where the smokers are enclosed in a very well ventilated room/area with seating. I dont care if people smoke up to them but others shouldnt have to suffer the smoking fumes, so personally i think royal should invest in a better designed area for both parties.

When they are refueling they will move smoking to this area.

How does smoke from casino on deck 3 or 4 drift out to the pool?🤣

I think they meant that smoke drifts out of the casino from smoking in there AND it drifts across the pool from smoking on that deck.

I think you are missing my point Casino's are not located anywhere near the pools.     Most ships have casino's on deck 3 or 4 and pools are located on decks 11 and up.

Now the poster may be trying to say that smoking areas located on either port or starboard signs on upper outside pool decks drift towards the other side of the pool.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but during refueling all I've ever seen was a ban on smoking on that side of the ship. I've never heard of a ship wide ban but again, maybe I'm wrong.

At least once a Cruise on my longer Sailings the Casino is the only place onboard to Smoke during refueling. Seen this at least half dozen times last 9 months. This on Radiance Class. PreCovid on at least one Formal nites the Casino would have Smoke Free nite

Yup, seen Ban except Casino on almost every Sailing I've done since 2010. Always a Port Day so most passengers are off, except me

Yes, the poster was saying that smoke from the casino drifts into the ship depending on where it’s located on that ship, and also that on the pool deck the smoke drifts to the non smoking side from the s ok’ing side on that deck.

On Oasis for the last 5 weeks, they move the smoking section to Deck 16 solarium area during refueling on boarding day and one day during the week wherever they choose to refuel.

Yeah long as enclosed not looking over Tanker no issues. As I said above this what I've seen on about 50 Radiance Class Sailings last 13yrs. But think was also same when was on Vision Class

I never smoked so I guess I was not listening beyond the first sentence, "We are fueling and requesting that no one smoke...." . I did not bother to hear the "exceptions". With all of my years on board boats and ships, (mostly in US navigable waters), Federal rules prohibited smoking while fueling. Live and learn as I read these post.

Still makes me a bit nervous that the smokers could not bear to not light-up for the few hours it takes to fuel. Not anti-smoker, just Sam the Safety Eagle (Muppets).  😁
