Same as with the so called crab cakes that they used to try to pawn off as "Maryland" crab cakes.

Only the people that actually have eaten one could really appreciate that comment.

Same with the crabs with Old Bay seasoning.

You got it!

She Who Must Be Obeyed always travels with a small shaker of Old Bay.

I have a workaround for hubs if he wants a second tail.  I can't eat seafood, so I'll order one and order the meal I actually want too.

Elcheapo strikes again!

Just goes to show there's a workaround for most anything.  Good for you!

Why not just eat on lobster tail & go to another restaurant for a second?

Wow…that would take up a lot of my valuable time just sitting in a MDR waiting to be served just a lobster. It’s a good idea for those who love hanging out in there, though. I did order 2 lobster on the Crown in April and it was no problem. They were very tasty with the butter, as well.

Just got email from friends currently on Emerald on CA Coastal itinerary and they said there was no upcharge for additional lobster last cruise which was 16 day Hawaii, as they are doing B2B so may not have had 2nd formal night on current sailing. Wonder if upcharge is not fleetwide yet?

So far, only Crown people have reported it.

If you've ever had fresh lobster right off the boat in New England, previously frozen lobster in the MDR is certainly not worth an upcharge, and barely worth bothering with as an entree.

But, it's Economics 101, charge what the traffic will bear.

Agreed, being from Boston and having direct access to the fleet at the docks, you understand the difference.  Have now travel around the World, lived the last 25 years and have outside the United States. I really find is funny and sad when they try to serve cold water lobster and improve upon it with different styles of cooking. Or name brand International chef's put their own twist on lobster. Lobster does not need a chef, boiled and served with drawn butter is the winner. Add some steam clams, and fresh corn on the cob, and you have a meal that beats 90% of your fine dining restaurants hands down. For you beef lovers, add a nice grilled USDA Prime Steak.

Possibly a test to see the people's reaction??

Update, friends currently on Emerald just let me know last night’s 2nd formal with Land and Sea on MRD menu had $10 upcharge for additional lobster, so it appears it is going fleet wide. On the Crown it was Beef Tenderloin instead of a petite filet Mignon in the past, friends did not comment what the land item was.

I’m not sure there’s a difference between filet mignon and tenderloin. If there is, I’m sure someone will educate me.

Filet mignon is a cut from the beef tenderloin, but it costs much more when it is called 'filet mignon' rather than beef tenderloin.  Educated and alert passengers will notice that there is some version of beef tenderloin served on most nights.  It is not the best quality beef, but it is probably the same as you would get from the Crown Grill for a surcharged price.  Additionally it appears that they've added NY Strip as an every day item on the MDR menu, so you can get an 8oz strip steak now any day of the week (you can also get two of them anytime your heart desires,) as opposed to paying $19 for a 12oz version (without refills) in the MDR or $39 for one in the Crown Grill.

On the Enchanted we had the beef tenderloin which was pretty good.

No upcharge for that if you wanted a second.

I agree with your sentiments about certain foods that don't need someone's twist or spices to add flavor.  While She Who Must Be Obeyed travels with a small container of Old Bay, I prefer to not sully my seafood or my beef unless it is substandard and needs some help to be palatable.

Early I. The post pandemic return, the lobster tails weren’t very good and this, they were trying to always bring you more of them.  Now, they have seemed to greatly improved their supplier and I don’t begrudge them one bit for charging extra for this delicacy.

These are warm water Lobster tails, not the ones from Maine. They are god, but not a delicacy like New England Lobster. Go on Oceania & the cold water ones are free. No extra charge for extras.

Yes but I can cruise 2-3 times a year on Princess for the price of one Oceania cruise

But of course you'll pay a higher price just for the basic cruise.

Yes, but all the extras on Princess are standard on Oceania. So it's not really that more expensive.

True, only if you require them. There are many things I can do without and not feel deprived.

There was no beef on the Everyday Favorites on the May 4 - 20 sailing of the Emerald Princess.  There was one beef entrée almost every night, but it was not an every day favorite. And sometimes the quality was pretty bad.

Well, yeah if you just do inside cabins. Sure you can enjoy your endless announcements/smoke filled casino/pay $3+ for soft drinks & water/enjoy truly mediocre food/ have worthless art sales/cheap trashy trinkets for sale in the "sidewalk" sales etc. or you can(yes) spend a little more & get far better food/free soft drinks & water/all free restaurants(except where wine is paired with the food) & just an overall more classy feel. We do both lines, but prefer Oceania. We are booked in a Cabana Reserve cabin in 2025 on the new Sun Princess. We do find most new pax we've met as of late were those who have tired of Princess cutbacks & are now trying something new.If the New class of ships is to our liking we may do more Princess cruises in the future. I do like the fact that those in Reserve & the full suites ewill get their own restaurants.

We sail in penthouse suites on casino deals 3 times a year. So free specialty dining on embarkation night, free laundry, double mini bars since we are also elite,  club class dining and Princess plus for well under $10,000 for 2 people for 15-21 day cruises. Can’t come close to that on Oceania
