Laundry question

BTW - even Oceania (not a luxury line) gives 3 free bags of Laundry to everyone in Concierge class and above.  Those are NOT all suites.   Not one day turn around but saves you from being a laundress on board.  And I have seen their fabulous laundry rooms on the newer ships.  Spacious with plenty of machines.

No idea

I get free laundry on SS because I book a Silver Suite.

I have not done a formal analysis of laundry facilities on ships as others appear to have done.

Yes, we are all quite aware that you MUST be in a large suite with butler service.

Not my point at all -- but feel free to read it that way.  I believe your good friend Keith is always in a top suite (was once next door to him) --as are many others.  You get old you spend down.  I used to stay in cabins without balconies.  I am happily bouncing my last check.  Large suites help me meet that goal.

SS does not provide free laundry to all passengers which I why I mentioned the suite category.  In fact, the laundry room on deck 11 of the larger ships (which is composed of all silver suites) is tiny.  I peeked in.  Naturally, it gets almost no use at all.

I really don't understand the snide remarks about a suite and a butler

Some want casinos (don't care)

Some want a great gym (dont care)

Some want pickleball (don't care)

Some want great entertainment (a factor)

Some want great lecturers (a factor)

Some want newer ships (I care)

Some want larger cabins (I care)

Some don't care as long as its Crystal

I want a butler.

Nice to have choices.

I will add -- as you get older and less active you spend a lot more time in the suite.  We used to tour for 8-10 hours a day when we were younger.  I could have been in an inside cabin and enjoyed it.  Now we spend a lot more time on the ship.  We don't tour for more than 4-5 hours if we tour at all.  Some ports we don't even get off.  We look for cruises with sea days.  That's why a larger suite with a butler suits us. Decades ago it would have been a waste of money.

And one more thing -- my husband has some mobility issues -- i might get off and he stays on board. I want him to be comfortable with plenty of space.  It's great that he doesn't have to go foraging around the ship on his own to get a snack or anything else.  the butler takes good care of him.

In fact, one day on Silversea the butler noticed I left the ship and he was concerned my husband might not go to lunch without me (which he can).  The butler just brought him some lunch.  No one asked..

Before you criticize -- know the facts.

As a point of clarification since incorrect information was posted. I do not always stay in the top suites. On Serenity the category we have been in the most is the PH   We have also stayed in regular rooms on both ships and our first World Cruise we were in a standard room.  I have said  we prefer what was  PH on Serenity over the PS. And  more recently when we did stay in the very large suite there were health related reasons for that.

We normally do not highlight what category of room  we are in but because we do a blog and it includes photos people can figure it out if they are familiar with the ship we are on.

And full disclosure I am very happy to do the laundry on the ship. On other lines we brought enough laundry not to do it because in general facilities were very small and crowded  on Crystal we have made sone dear friends from chance encounters in the laundry room. So now you know.

We get unlimited included laundry on another line.  While we do send some items out, ones we know will have no issues, my husband still does some items himself as they require special care.  On crystal, we didn’t use the laundry service and my husband did our laundry and I did too…never did it much.  He even does his own laundry at home! 😀.  We utilized pressing and dry cleaning on crystal as well as the current line we are sailing whether it’s included or not.

My husband is not allowed to do laundry.  Long story.  LOLOL  I am always amazed when I see all the men in the laundry room who know what they are doing.

DH is wonderful about the laundry - it goes in on his way to the fitness center - into the dryer on the way back, and out after his shower and backin the room for me to fold. Easy schmeazy.

I still don't get the expectation that laundry/dry cleaning should be included. Some people use it way more than others, and if you were home, you pay for sending out laundry/dry cleaning. What resort or hotel would include it? If it's available it would be twice the price at the least.

For us, it’s not a matter if included or not. The dry cleaning and pressing costs on old crystal and the lux line we currently sail is less than we pay at home and just as good.  I’m not good at ironing nor my hubby and don’t like to do it on the ships. Don’t send laundry out at home, so easy to do in my home but we do have quite a few items weekly dry cleaned and/or pressed.  Can’t speak for hotels or resorts as most of our long vacations are cruising vacations.

You have stated your "facts" innumerable times. All are aware.

I do not care how you choose to spend your money, as I don't as to anyone else who posts here.

Just find it humorous that you insist on beating a dead horse.

Some of us learned how to do it, WAY back when I first went off to college.  Senior year of high school, when it was clear that I would be going away for schooling, Mom taught me how to do laundry, how to cook, how to do simple sewing and other practical "stuff".  Served me well over the many years.

My husband was a military guy.  The Army teaches you lots of things but laundry is not one of them.  He can fly a helicopter, jump out of airplanes, but he has no idea how to wash clothes.

The Army could use some moms.

Very similar to me too. I am up early. Put wash in the washer. Go to the Fitness Center.  Either return and put wash in the dryer and back to the room or back to the Fitness Center and either way when done take the wash out of the dryer and back to the room.  Easy peasy or yes Easy schmeazy.

I still bet you don’t do it the way your wife requires it to be done 😂😂. I get sick of doing things and then having my wife redo it eg re-sort the clothes or restock the dish washer - my response do it yourself - your way - then….

I can’t believe this discussion about who prefer to do their laundry or must do it themselves - aren’t there more important things on life or indeed about cruising?

Coincidentally we just enjoyed free laundry on Viking - but hey the trade off was there was Noro on the ship so we had to soon the wheel on that. Seems we’ve dodged that bullet and are enjoying our Viking cruise - nice overall package but it’s not quite up there with Old Crystal, Regent or Silversea - but more than tolerable with some good points - eg this particular ship only launched in Dec 2022 and is very nicely designed

For us ( and I would be surprised if we were alone ) what matters is the ability to get laundry done with no upcharge, either in laundry room or by ship. Surprised that this appears to be such a contentious topic !!

Apparently some think it is better for the ship not to include complimentary laundry service. So that's a plus for Crystal and a negative for Regent.   I never cease to be amazed.

One reminder as a few of you have used the word free.

Semantics - I think we’re all adults and know what people mean

Perhaps someone who is worried about such things should publish a list pf acceptable terms and their meaning? You know we just can’t have people being lose with their terminology can we otherwise you might get a lack of clarity

Umm. Interesting comment.  I know I am not the only person who would disagree with this comment particularly being on the receiving end of some very childish comments plus the sarcastic emoji that three people on this board use often as a put down.

So it goes.
