Balcony discount?

I am diamond plus and yesterday I booked a cruise for Nov 2024. I booked online as I usually do and then call to have my balcony discount applied. When I called RCL I had 2 different agents tell me that because the current discount of 30% is applied they can't give me my balcony discount or they will have to remove the 30% discount and charge me more. I have never had this happen before.

Has anyone else had this happen?

That's true. There are many many threads here on cc saying find a TA for group rates so you can get you balconys discount. Booking direct the sale discount is bigger than your discount so booking direct you dont get it. Some days there are 10 posters saying get yourself a TA who offers group rates for lower prices. There are always people who say they rather pay more and have control such as you did. Not new.

I don't think I have ever gotten the balcony discount because it can't be combined with some other discount being offered.

Look for the operative words "not combinable with..." in the fine print for the discount you did receive.

I tried again this morning and was told the same thing. I sort of beat them at their own game, the price went down by $80.00 today for same cabin so I called and had them apply the new price. I have a whole year to watch for price decreases.

I am also diamond plus and as of today, I have never booked a balcony cabin with a rate that was not better than the 30 percent discount. To me it is just another perk I doubt I will ever use.

It depends on what kind of cabin you are booking.

The balcony discount is combinable with the standard 30% off fares.  It is not combinable with the "extra savings" or OBC.  If the extra savings is more than the balcony discount you wont get the balcony discount.

Here's one that was done today for a client.

It is absolutely combinable with the 305 off promo.

Hello,

I'm afraid this confirms what I have said for months: The training, if any, post covid has been pitiful. If full T&Cs are not documented fully then 'word-of-mouth'/opinions will fill the vacuum and things will get lost.

I'm afraid we have to agree with you.

It's extremely frustrating when you call in, then have to almost resort to arguing with the RC agent that what they are telling you is wrong!

Clearly training is severely lacking when the customer knows more about the Ts&Cs than the agent!

I booked a cruise back in September and got the 30% discount, an additional discount of $50/person, PLUS each of us got our balcony discounts. We booked a Spacious Ocean View Balcony by calling RC directly.

Even better, when I called back earlier this month to add prepaid grats to our reservation, I was able to add the senior discount and the resident state discount on top of the original 3 discounts we got, which reduced our cruise fare by $327 each.

Ourusualbeach is a knowledgeable TA who specializes in rcl. That's why he knows the nitty gritty. I dont even know what the 305 off promo is.

Imo the problem is rcl has too many of these nitty gritty if and and buts. It shouldn't be this hard to figure out you need a specialist with a lot of knowledge to book. Carnival is straight forward. What you see is the price. Not so withnrcl. Its I get different amounts of obc or discounts according to how far out i book and my loyalty level which are applied differently if you are booking direct or a group rate. I am thankful I dont have to pay the full rate shown, but its sure hard to figure out. I book the group rate then wait for solo DP340 to be applied.

@Ourusualbeach  Speaking of promos and discounts I've been doing some mock bookings on 2025-2026 recently issued Caribbean schedules and having a problem applying solo supplement promo DP340.  Message says invalid or not applicable. Do you know if it's an IT glitch or is Royal doing away with it.

Ps.  Mock bookings were outside of the blackout dates.

That is typical with new releases.

I've called and had them applied to our group rates without any issues

Senior discount?  How do you get this?  How old do you need to be?

I did a mock booking to check to see if the price had gone down and always check the state & sr promo codes. It is under the promo codes at the bottom of the page where your C&A number shows up. The senior discount starts at age 55. This was the 1st cruise that any of the promos applied. There is also one for your state of residence, military & 1st responders.

Lucked out and picked up the seniors discount for Anthem this July.  $450.  First one

Hello,

The only time I've ever seen Senior's Discount is when we had covid restricted home waters cruising a couple of years ago.
