Norwegian entertainment

This!  Exactly this @UKstages.  I’m on the Bliss now, the atrium “entertainment” could not be anymore annoying or a downgrade to the cruise experience. Image a nice resort screaming about trivia or deal or no deal, or Harry Potter or Suduko, or a “no chairs turned” entertainer in their lobby - would never happen.  Cheapens the experience… more of whatever this is, is not better…

So what entertainment would be better in the atrium?

Or would you prefer no atrium activities?

Just wondering since you're currently onboard.

TIA

Not that it matters…  But I think entertainment should be in venues - there are so many great ones aboard!! Then, you pick what suits you and you go there to enjoy!  There is no mass-appeal to the atrium “entertainment” - some enjoy some do not.  Why not leave the atrium to be a nice place to gather and enjoy a conversation and a drink? What they do today also ruins any attempt at a meal at The Local.  I was out and about late last night and heard a woman shouting to the hostess “sit us as far away from this terrible, loud music as you can!!!”  She was not wrong - it was both loud and pretty terrible.  It is not just me…

as an aside, i would have no problems and shed no tears if there was no entertainment in the atrium.

probably make it 100% easier to navigate thru it, and easier to get a starbucks

I don't disagree. I'm not a big fan either.

But many on here complain about the reduction of shows and entertainment in general, so I wonder what everyone wants.

Some on here disparage the musicianship of the individuals, duos and trio's that play music.

I have seen many very talented musicians onboard and generally enjoy all the live music onboard.

It's like the food has always been. Sometimes poor, sometimes good, sometimes really good. Can't please everyone.

And, they fill up the atrium like crazy for most of these things so they are popular.

Also, you're currently on Bliss so you have the observation lounge for a quiet and relaxing venue. Not to mention a great bar.

Once again, enjoy your cruise 🚢

Omg, didn’t even think of the observation lounge!  First time sailing on a NCL ship with one!  We’re meeting up on the waterfront for drinks- will certainly work that in!!

We cruise for mainly for itinerary.  Beyond that, what we want from a ship is a relaxing dinner and nightly entertainment when we come back in the evenings.  We're not picky about food, service, amenities or age of the ship.  Our last 3 NCL cruises have had the kind of itinerary changes that bother people (no reasonable explanation, shortly after final payment, and excuses that were obvious nonsense).  I know many here have been luckier but we have experienced more than our fair share of itinerary changes.

We prefer NCL but this has made me look more closely at other lines.  Comparing ships going out of NYC this coming winter I was surprised that the entertainment on Royal's Odyssey of the Seas seem to be close to pre-pandemic levels and I think we will be booking our winter cruise with them.

ellieinnj.. sorry dear, if youre getting pissed because they removed a show about a disco queen who has  been dear for years, and a music genre that hit its prime over 40 years ago, maybe  you should try and sell your cn, and cancel the dec cruise (that has truly disappointed you with a failure to show donna) and since you claim this will probably be your last ncl cruise, why not check into another cruise at another date. i have posted before, the show(s) offered on board is so low on my criteria list for booking, as to be almost non-existent

and bkrickles1, you are 100% correct, beatles music is timeless, but having watched them on the ed  sullivan show in 1964, you can only hear yeah!yeah!yeah! so many betimes before enough is enough.

remember, i consider music by frank sinatra, tony bennet, dion and the belmonts, also timeless.

if you're of a certain age, songs by the penquins, 5 satins, the flamingoes will also be timeless.

last thought " it's got  a good beat, easy to dance too, i'll give it a 75!"

if you have no idea about any of these songs or vocal groups, you rightfully deserve Donna (lol)

Oh, complawyer! Are you trying to get me started again on how terrible the entertainment is for someone that appreciates more umm...what's that word? contemporary music? 🙂 Probably stuff you haven't heard of, unless your grandson got you into it. You have heard of Taylor Swift, right? Hehe, I'm just joshin' with you.

As for the Atrium, I have virtually no use for the place. Actually, Pr1ma's Atrium was the nicest one I've been in. I enjoyed being able to grab a seat on any of the three decks and listening to the music without it being in my face. It was a nice spot to listen to music and have a conversation with my husband. Sure, I'll still listen to some of the music the entertainers are crooning. Doesn't mean it's my favorite or what I want. But, Pr1ma's Atrium is way better than Getaway and Joy despite the shopping mall vibes I get! I do have to say, it didn't suit as well for the fruit cutting and sushi demonstrations. I much preferred being "in the round" on Getaway for those presentations. Eh, I don't even know what I like now!

But, I'd like to see folks on this forum find an atrium that works for them. Carnival's new atriums seem to host a lot of entertainment too. It's kind of like a cruise ship needs a central gathering place for folks to listen to music and grab a drink. Eeegads! How dare they! If you don't like - go to the Waterfront and soothe your soul with the sounds of the ocean.

Your negative attitude has something to be desired.  Since when is it a crime to like ALL genres of music.  I grew up in the late 50s loving doo wop, the 60s loving Barbra, Steve &Eydie plus Bandstand and the British Invasion, the 70s with Barry and Disco, the 80s dancing to Madonna, MJ, Cyndie and the long haired groups. You are not the judge and jury of what music to like on cruises.  Stay on your own side of the bench.😄

complawyer, you, and I may not be the judge and juries, but I do agree with him about all the old music still monopolizing cruise ships. I hope to be an old codger cruising along, bopping to the tunes of my more youthful age - Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons, Barenaked Ladies, Lauv, Avril Lavigne, Miley Cyrus (minus the big hair), Selena Gomez, Panic at the Disco....ooooh the list goes on! But, it'll be another thirty years at the rate the lines still put out Fleetwood Mac and the freaking Beatles.

BTW - loving the lawyer joke - took me a minute, cuz it's Tuesday morning and I forgot my coffee at home!

i'd have no problem with atrium entertainment if it wasn't adjacent to the local or o'sheehan's.

you want a gathering place for folks to listen to music and "deal or no deal" and watch movies and cruise next presentations? have at it! just don't make me listen to it at absurdly loud volumes when i'm trying to eat a reuben sandwich.

Ok, that's a fair enough point! I do recall having a mediocre burger at O'Sheehan's one night after a show. I had to shout for my server to hear me and I really couldn't hear what he was saying. I just pretended - somehow, I got what I ordered.

cruisenyforlife.. taylor who? i wouldnt know a taylor swift song if she were sitting on my lap (sorry mr kelce) and personally serenading me .and elliennj, im not criticizing  any ones taste in music, i  was merely saying you were pissed that donna show has been taken off. regardless of which side of the bench i'm on, is that really a reason to get pissed, as she has been dead (as well as disco) for more than 40 years, and i dont think any station is still playing her music. sorry if i ruffled your feathers. that was certainly not my intention

I've just noticed that Wheel of Fortune has been added to the entertainment for my sailing on Getaway in April.

Nothing has been removed.....................yet, so I'm hopeful that MDQ won't be touched before my sailing.

Yeah, you certainly did ruffle my feathers.  I live in the NY/NJ area where we have plenty of oldie stations and disco is often played.  What really bothered me is telling me if I don't like it to cancel my booking on the Prima and go elsewhere.  This is something that is more in tune with a FB reply that a responsible Cruise Critic reply.  I thought you were better than that.

i will certainly apologize. i was in new york when cousin brucie,  murry the k ruled the airwaves, and the east coast was a hotbed of great vocal, doo wopp groups., to this day, it's my favorite type of music (im 76) and we live on he west coast

the only reason i even brought up the thought of you canceling your cruise, is because you stated your post with this will probably be my last ncl cruise, and ended with im really pissed.

i have posted many times before, that (although there are many reasons for booking)the specific show on board should not be one of them. in theory, if you were that angry, why shell out all that money when you can book something that wouldnt piss you off. the prima is not a cheap ship.

if you live in the ny/nj area, did you get a chance to see "donna" on broadway, im sure if you did,  that production would be 100x's better than you could get on any cruise ship. so, elliein nj, i do sincerely apologize, i hope you have an amazing cruise, a great time (despite the absence of Donna). ok, are we friends again?

final thought..... bon voyage!

I wish they would have more piano players in the atrium.  I used to enjoy just sitting, having a drink, people watching and chilling out in the Atrium.  Now it's all loud, cant talk to folks, just not a comfortable place to unwind.  The only place I found that was chill enough was the lounge outside  to the Cigar Room.  Quite, good bartender(s), nice people to char with.

To me, it's irrelevant, that some people don't enjoy the shows.  The fact is that NCL was known for offering large Broadway style shows and its something that distinguished it from some of its competitors.  I really don't gamble but that doesn't mean that I think there shouldn't be a casino.  People enjoy it and expect it on a cruise just like they expect to be entertained.

Royal is the other line that is known for entertainment.  After not having a Broadway style production on Odyssey and Wonder, they brought it back for Icon.

Complawyer, I accept your apology and we are indeed friends again.  I'm also 76 so we have that in common.

I guess we are all guilty of using the "p" word when we really mean annoyed.  NCL was always my cruise of choice but I got tired with the away ships and didn't want to fly anywhere.  We are not gamblers and do not drink so entertainment is important to us.  So when I heard that Donna was no longer available I overreacted.  It was the only big show on the Prima, not like the Viva that has two big shows.  I now hear it is back so am happy.

on the web, all are welcome to join, except those who have no idea that cleve duncan was the lead singer for the penquins, and pookie wilson for the spaniels. for those who have no idea what i'm talking about, better stay home and listen to your taylor swift c/d's.

by the way, ellie, i wouldnt have even responded the way i did, if you would have said "disappointed " over the cancelation of donna, rather than "pissed" no one should spend that kind of money on a cruise, if they are already pissed about something before they even get on board.

if youve ever read any of my prior posts, and i have almost 4,000, you'll find i cruise just for the sake of being on a luxury cruise ship, going to exotic (or less than exotic) ports. ncl has taken me to places i had  only dreamed of when i was younger, and has filled a great number of things on my bucket list. we're planning on iceland/norway in sept as a priority on my wife's bucket list is the northern lights. if we dont get to see them, my life is forfeit.

i dont worry about any of the previous (imho) annoyances people have mentioned. give me a balcony, my kindle, a cold heineken or glass of champagne, and i'm good to go.

once again, i bid you a safe, enjoyable and relaxing cruise, and i'm glad and relieved you decided  to be my friend again.

You most certainly can.  I see you are from Monticello.  We went to different bungalow colonies and Hotels in the Catskills in the 50s and 60s.  Best times.

Are you calling NCL a luxury cruise ship? even the haven is not close to luxury.

havent you ever heard of "poetic license, or suspension of disbelief" ? if you've never been on a cruise before, any ship might be categorized as "luxury"

im very content with a haven complex cabin. do you need to spend 30-50000 on a cruise before you can call it a luxury ship? you get a 24 hr on call butler, a concierge to address any ship board problems that might arise/occur, private bar, restaurant, lounge, pool, jacuzzi and sun deck!  what more will you require before you can call it a luxury?

an again to quote george gershwin, "who could ask for anything more"

ellieinnj. small world, so did we until 1957 when we moved from the bronx to detroit. it's been a long, long time, but i believe we stayed in a place called webbers. i recall it was down the road from a chicken/egg factory. i think across the street was another place called kolimers korner kolony. maybe we knew each other in a former universe.

wouldnt that be something, that  a deceased donna summer show, and your disappointment in its cancellation brought us here?

you're actually quoting ira gershwin.

george was the music man.

ira was the wordsmith.
