Spice H20...no more smoking?

Recommended Posts

I just saw a post on FB that there is NO more smoking area in Spice H20 on Joy. Anyone know if this is true? My son's girlfriend smokes and wants to know where she can do it. They said that this is a new recent rule. They did mention that there is an enclosed area by the pool for smoking. One would think they'd at least have ONE "open air" spot for smokers.

The enclosed area by the pool may have been a dry-dock addition, but nobody has really reported from the ship since that was completed a couple weeks ago.

there was actually a report here somewhere a couple of days ago confirming that this had happened. it is a trend.  on the getaway recently, casino hosts informed me that they would be partitioning the casino into smoking and nonsmoking areas, by installing a glass wall. i imagine they will make a similar change in spice H20. when i went into spice, the stench from cigarettes was completely overwhelming. even though only the bar area allowed smoking, in essence the entire spice area was smoking... you couldn't escape it anywhere within that "club."

There is no enclosed space for cigarette smoking (other than the casino)

Have you been onboard since dry dock. If not you don’t know what is there.

And there's this deck plan that was posted as well.

haven't been on the joy since the dry dock, but based on my experience with humidors (cigar smoking rooms) on various ships, i'd say the idea of an enclosed smoking area on such a well-used public deck is an incredibly stupid idea.

the big problem with the humidors has been that whenever the doors open, smoke billows out. on some ships, you can smell the smoke one floor above and one floor below and for several hundred feet in all directions. from the image above, it looks like those in the hot tub and pool, may be subjected to frequent bursts of smoke throughout the day, as the doors to the "enclosed smoking area" open. particularly if it's windy. let's hope they had the good sense to put those doors facing the ocean and not the pools.

Actually there is a new closed area by the pool for smoking it was just added.

They also added a area by the humidor for cigarette smokers separating them from the cigar smokers. There is a you tube video on Joy changes I seen it on.

From NCL.com

On Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipe smoking and vapor smoking devices are permitted at Spice H2O, starboard side.

Yes, but that also hasn't been updated since the Prima and Viva sailed as they're not listed in that FAQ, I certainly wouldn't expect a change from a couple weeks ago to be on there.

If there is a private room that is vented for smokers....how does that impact YOU??? Why is it so important for there to be "no smoking" at all??? Please tell, I'll wait!

Posted (edited)

I quit smoking a little over 5 years ago. I will still go hang out at the smokers table sometimes because I find them to be better company than some of the self-righteous anti smokers. The ones who wave their hand in the air pretending they're waving the smoke away although the wind is blowing away from them towards the smoker. Across a four lane highway.

As it is an open venue i would be surprised if NCL would ban smokers from the spice H2O.

The pool deck is an 'open venue', as is the sun deck, yet smoking is banned in those locations...

Unbelievable!!!! What a nasty thing to say but then again, it's easy to say things like this behind a keyboard.

I’ll tell a smoker to their face.  They chose a nasty habit.  I don’t have to pretend that it’s not gross.  Ditto for people that chew tobacco, stink of weed, or get drunk and puke everywhere.

I don’t think this logic will have much pull with smokers.  They are under the impression that air cannot travel from one place to another.  My mom is a smoker.  She honestly does not think her car, clothes and house stink of smoke.  We pulled a heavy clock off her wall a few years back to repair it.  The wall was stark white behind it, surrounded by yellow.  She insists that’s not nicotine stains in the wall.  It’s not nicotine stains on her appliance or teeth.

She just thinks people make that up to pick on smokers.

That's the point I was trying to make.  The person I quoted said they'd be shocked if NCL banned smoking at Spice because it's open-air, yet the pool and sun decks are open-air and smoking is banned in those places....

I was agreeing with you.  I don’t think the person you were responding too would understand.

So...umm...yea...back to the topic? Without the judgment?

Can you smoke in Spice H2O or not? What has been the experience of those that have cruised in, say, the last three to four weeks?

Agree. Keyboard rudeness is an unfortunate "thing" these days. More offensive than cigarette smoke, too much perfume, bad breath, or not bathing regularly, combined. 🙂

Wearing too much perfume doesn't kill thousands of people per year who don't wear too much perfume.

Having bad breath doesn't kill thousands of people per year who don't have bad breath.

The act of not bathing regularly doesn't kill thousands of people per year who do bathe regularly.

Cigarette smoke does kill thousands of people per year who don't smoke. That's worse than rude, unfortunate, or offensive...combined. ☠️

You cannot smoke in spice h2o (or anywhere on ship) outside of designated smoking areas that are available based on ship.  Floor plans for some ships have been provided.

have a nice vacation.
