NCL Mastercard FAQ

We just got the card 2 weeks ago and it has the "chip". Weve never had a card with it what difference does it make? Anyone know?

Your new card, with chip technology, makes it difficult to counterfeit.

(It's not a true "chip and PIN" card, as issued in Europe)

It still has a magnetic strip, so you can swipe and sign in the USA.

For merchants in Europe that accept chip transactions, insert your card into the card reader and sign.

No PIN required – If asked to provide a PIN when traveling outside the U.S. , simply tell the merchant your card only requires a signature.

However, to reiterate an issue; if someone steals your card they do not need a PIN number, only a signature, to make a transaction. ?!

An automated card reader (no person involved, such as in a train station) may or may not accept your card/transaction.

Also, anytime you DO use your PIN number, it's considered a "Cash Advance" and a fee is charged.

Any discussion?

I have never received notifications of any bonus points....how do I sign up for that?? can't find it on the website....:o

I'm not sure why we get it. It comes every few months or when the last bonus offer runs out usually. I hope to keep getting them since I just assumed everyone did.

I have not received any notices about earning bonus points, either, but I looked around and clicked around, and and voila!

  • 4 white tabs, mid page, click on "rewards"
  • on right side middle of the page, click on "learn more about...."
  • click on "earn bonus points"
  • explore, find store, score!

Good luck!

I do get offers for bonus points in the mail frequently (every other week, it seems). I've noticed they are frequently the same offers to be found online, so don't worry that you're missing something.

Literally just completed the application and was approved for the card. Should be receiving it before our mid-October cruise.

If I use it for our on-board account/credit I give when I check in, will whatever we spend be at 2x points?

It sure will!

Just as Tricialy said, plus anything you buy that is NCL-related, will earn you double points on your Master Card account, and this includes cruise tickets purchased via a 3rd party TA (because it is actually NCL that gets paid, not the travel agency), OBC that you buy one way or another; shipboard purchases via auctions, or duty free shops, plus service charges, and TIPS! (that's right, you go right to the guest service desk and say, "please add $30 as a tip to our cabin steward," and they will, and she/he will get it, and you'll get double points); also, all online purchases for casino money, dining or entertainment or gifts or excursions. If it goes to NCL's coffers, whether you pay via your onboard account or on line, as long as you are paying with your NCL credit card, you will get 2 pts per dollar. If your travelmate(s) aren't into collecting points, you can put all of their sign and sail charges on your NCL card. Then, NCL will apply their charges to their cabin statements, but with your credit card on account, and you'll get double points for those expenditures, too. You can settle with your friends/family later on.

The new offer is a $50 NCL giftcard after spending $500 in 90 days plus 10,000 points that can translate into $100 obc. Has anyone seen a better offer in the past? I already have the card, but my husband is thinking about applying and using it for a cruise we may take in Oct 2015.

Question about the application - does anyone know if there's a table on the NCL ship (any ship) where you're offered an additional incentive to sign up for the credit card on board? I did this in January on board the Carnival Splendor and got good freebies plus extra points.

Nisky18, what did you discover on your cruise? I'm pretty sure the applications are there, but did you find any other incentives? I cruise in 2 weeks so I'll see for myself if you or no one responds. I expect the 10,000 points plus maybe the $50. card would be OBC. I get better points for travel with my AARP Visa but need a MC for a specific store. This one seems to offer the best bonus ATM.

Just wanted to post our experience today for some people on here. Im pretty sure I had read on several post that if you wanted to exchange your reward point from the NCL card you needed to do it 8-10 weeks ahead of time.

I will tell you this is 100% false. All you need is you cruise info and your card info and call the #. It took a whole 20 minutes and we had a email with the pdf file attach showing out conversion to OBC.

So heads up you cant always believe what you read on here. It was simple and easy. Fyi we was advised you can call and do this 24-48 prior to departure. Andit should on our NCL account within 10 minutes.

This may have been answered somewhere in the 3600+ posts in this thread, but is OBC earned from points refundable or non-refundable?

Help me understand your question;

If you want "refundable points", why not just cash in your points instead of getting an OBC?

Then, use the cash to pay your NCL Mastercard bill (and get more points).

I have just gotten cash in the past. I just disembarked the Jade today and noticed on the statement that they were very clear about what was refundable vs. non-refundable OBC. As such, I wanted to know which category the OBC resulting from using points fell into.

I just signed up for the card and received it in the mail today. I couldn't resist the $150 OBC signup bonus towards my next cruise. How do I know that I received my credit? Will I get a letter or anything or will NCL just automatically apply it towards my next cruise? Can I choose which cruise I'd like it applied for, if I have more than one booked?

I don't see anything in the papers I received about this bonus, so any help is appreciated.

Sorry, I meant to write, not the points OBC but the gift card promotion they are currently running. Will NCL actually just send me a gift card, or is it via BofA?

Does anyone know how long that generally takes?

Thanks!!

The gift card I believe came from Bank of America, once I met the $500 in charges requirement - I didn't have to request it. I can't remember how long it took, maybe a couple weeks after the end of the billing period. The 10,000 points also was there once the first billing period ended after the first charge was made. To use those points for OBC or to apply to cost of the cruise, I had to make a call, but it was pretty painless. Hope this helps.
