We Are Done, With Celebrity!!!

My DW has MS and at best walks with a cane and a brace but often with a walker or chair depending on the kind of day she is having and the distance needed to be covered. When walking she is very slow. Our experience with Celebrity has been nothing other than first rate in them accommodating her.

I'm in! Bet taken!

You're missing the point of Cruise Critic. There is nothing wrong with posting a critical review. That is merely posting your opinion of what occurred.

However, you should not be surprised when others are "critical" of your "review" when it goes long past being an opinion.

You are making errant judgment calls about how things should have been handled in your world. The world does not exist around you, however, and there are international laws and cruise line policies dictating the proper way to handle these things.

The responses here are merely explaining to you that your position and attitude in this whole situation is incorrect, and everyone is trying to point out how "off-the-mark" your thoughts, requests and demands really are.

A bit of a harsh response, no? Remember, the OP has just been through a devastating experience at the hands to two dead pax who screwed up Halloween, not to mention an insensitive cruise line that refused to keep him aprised of events as they unfolded.

I think it's kinda funny that there are people out there paranoid enough to believe that the cruise lines actually lobby on these boards.

I'm sure that celebrity has better things to do with their time.

Seriously, they're building new ships at the rate of about one a week it seems! Ships are virtually always sold out. The industry is seeing unheralded growth.

But what they are going to worry about is a nitwit who wants them to violate HIPAA by telling them something they have no right to know!

Welcome to crazytown, population YOU!

I was on The Infinity Panama Canal Full Transit from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale, a 14 night cruise. There were FOUR people who died on that cruise and we missed one port of call, Costa Rica. Our waiter told us it was not unusual to have at least one death on 14 night cruises.

Also, on a European Cruise on The Millennium, we disembarked at Civitivechia (Rome), took the train to Florence that evening and re-embarked at Livorno (Florence) the next day. We did have to fill out some paperwork with Guest Relations in advance but it was no big deal so it can be done.

kcb - I was gonna take that bet too but figured I'd never actually "win" the wager. Wish the OP was right though - I would have been Diamond a LONG time ago.

Well yeah, that would be nice, but I don't know that I would wish that anything the OP believes could ever actually be "right."

But that isn't the same thing as two US ports --- different laws.

I think it's safe to assume the dead pax didn't plan on the itinerary change either; bet it was a bigger disappointment for them than it was for you!

This statement is both sad and funny! :(

This is just plain hysterical! What a great costume. Thanks for the laugh! :D

I don't know why, but suddenly I'm reminded of one of our Halloween cruises in the early 90's where my then teenaged daughter and I dressed as palm trees.

We were wrapped tightly in burlap (so tightly that one of my eyeholes was pulled over to my ear, and I could only use one eye).

We had huge mylar fronds on our heads and a small hammock net was stretched between us.

As we paraded around the lido deck, a drunk tried to sit on the net. He pulled us down and I rolled like a log down the stairs. I hurt my pride, but you have to roll with the punches. :D

P.S. Thank goodness I didn't hit my head and die on the deck....It might have inconvenienced a couple of passengers.

You betcha. You should learn by example; shame on you for not following the OP's lead by showing some compassion, understanding and humanity toward your fellow man (especially the ones whose hearts are still beating)!

Maybe I'm naive, but I have never seen obscenities hurled at people in wheelchairs and walkers, ANYWHERE, not just on cruises. Most people are very aware of the difficulties some people endure and are especially careful to allow them any little leeway to lessen their load. Unless you were boorish and rude and pushy I simply do not believe that happened, especially not in a confined environment like a cruise ship where you most likely will run into those people again. In the anonymity of say, road rage, many people will do and say things since they will never seen those that cut them off or whatever again, but I am just REALLY having a hard time picturing things happening the way you said they did.

As much as I find the original complaints of the OP absurd, this is not an isolated, personal thing. It is a serious flaw in our society. These days, people are so used to having access to any information they might possibly want, that they consider it their inherent RIGHT to be told anything and everything. As much as the tone of this thread saddens me, it doesn't surprise me. I just wish that "None of your _____ business" would become an acceptable answer when people decide to stick their noses where they don't belong...

See this is the one part that I can believe. While in a body brace from my waist to under my arms. I cruised on Disney. I was sitting in the ADA area of the movie theater when I encountered someone like the OP is talking about. A women and her son was sitting in the other two ADA seats. I had over heard the little boy ask if they could move closer. With the mother saying No, your dad likes these seats. Well mom got up and left and in walked this very tall healthy looking late 20's/early 30's man. He took the womens seat and started talking to the little boy.

A few moments later an elderly couple both of whom were canes came into the theater. It was clear neither one of them could go down the stairs to the other seats. The women asked the man for their seats. He puffed up like a mad roaster. He rolled his eyes at the women and told her if she wanted those seats she should have got there sooner! The Disney movie theater will hold around 100 people. With 8 of those seats being ADA seats, plus there is wheelchair spots. There was maybe 30 of us there, so there was plenty of regular seats for this man and his son to sit.

The women went and got a crew member. The man proceeded to tell the crew member off and insult the elderly couple. At which point I was done. My cousin had already stood up and gave them her seat, as she could sit in front of me. (which is something the man could have done with his son) So I stood and offered the couple my seat also. I then turned on the man and shamed him on his actions. I shamed him on the lesson he was teaching his son. I also told him that I hope he never had to require an ADA area. As Karma is a Bee with an Ich and she will come back and sting you on your butt!!

The man must not have informed his wife as to what happened. As 2 days later we were sitting outside to catch the 2nd viewing of this movie. When around the corner walked the wife, son, and man. The wife commented "Oh, your seaing it again?" To which I replied back, no we missed the first viewing due to the rudeness of your husband. The husband never looked up or slowed down.

So yeah it does happen.

As for you contention that Celebrity should escort elderly and/or disabled passengers either on or off the ship, that's a totally rediculous request. Considering the average age on some of X's cruises is well above 65, and the fact that the disabled are cruising more often as evidenced by the ever-growing numbers of passengers in scooters (me), wheelchairs and walkers, I don't believe there are enough employees available to provide this "escort" service. As I said in a previous post, as a disabled person you must learn to handle things yourself and not rely on the assistance of anyone. If some kind of assistance is forthcoming, it's a pleasant surprise and is appreciated, but it's never, ever demanded nor expected.

Well said!!

While I'm not in a scooter (might be something in the future for me), I do have walking issues and little to no going up and down stairs. My left leg is in a metal brace from my knee down. I have learned to adapt to do different things, that use to be very simple for me. Also many times when I wear long pants, you don't notice my brace at all. So I get alot of hard looks from people.

There are 2 more people who will never cruise with X again = the 2

deceased ones.

Having read the original complaint, and then the lame attempts to dress up insensitivity and an outrageous sense of entitlement; I'd rather have the corpses with me on my next cruise than the OP.

after we returned home from this cruise - some of our roll call members contacted authorities in Maui, and did receive confirmation that Lahaina did notify all cruise ships there would be no tender operations to Lahaina after 6pm until 8am the next morning of Halloween night, because of the expected crowds.

This is what we were told onboard ship, and was verified after the fact. I tried to search our roll call for the exact wording - but the search function is still down.

But maybe - confusing this thread with some truth - makes me a Celebrity Shill.

We lodged our complaints about the 10-26-07 sailing on Summit and heard back yesterday from "Joseph Regal" on behalf of Celebrity.

During the course of our conversation, I was told that [We were] "ONLY Platinum on RCL, and ONLY select members on Celebrity." So much for brand loyalty, huh..."ONLY" and that we had only gone on (4) cruises, so I didn't really know what I was talking about. (see above-his math is off, JUST A BIT).

I think the OP is responding/posting to the way they perceived they were handled by Joseph at Celebrity. I am not agreeing with all of the post, but I had such a poor (pre-cruise) experiance with Celebrity that I don't doubt the OP if they state that someone called and said "Your "only" this and "only" that." My vacation planner left the company after I booked and Celebrity refused to give me a new one and someone finally admitted they were Sales Reps and a new planner would not make any commission. While whomever answers the phone is supposed to assist you, I had a number of Reps who could not wait to get me off the phone and were def rude. I wouldn't say I would never cruise on Celebrity again because of these Reps, but I think upper manager needs to do something. The fact that the ones that answered my calls refused to give out their full names said enough.

Again, I'm not agreeing with the OP, but I can see how they could be turned off by a Celebrity Rep.

Before all of you post, thinking that we are "newbies" that are "looking for a free meal", look at our travel record with Celebrity/RCL:

--Captain's Club, Founder's Club Members:

--RCL-Crown and Anchor Members, on the cusp of Diamond Level (Platinum):

1.) Century-7 day 3-31-01 (counted as one cruise)

2.) Infinity-11 day 3-23-03 (counted as one cruise)

3.) Infinity - 7 day 4-18-04 (counted as one cruise)

4.) RCL Radiance -7 day 3-13-05 (counted as one cruise)

5.) Infinity - 7 day 3-12-06 (concierce class, counted as two cruises)

6.) RCL Voyager-7 days 3-24-07 (counted as one cruise)

7.) Summit-15 days 10-26-07 (concierge class, 14+days, counts as 3)

8.) RCL Monarch 3 days 2-15-08 (counts as one cruise)

This is in addition to our other cruises on Carnival, Princess, and Holland America, which have no bearing as to Celebrity/RCL.

I'll save the full list of complaints, but suffice it to say, the cruise experience is somewhat blown when there are (2) DEAD BODIES on board, with no information to be gathered from the staff, leaving everyone to wonder, "what did they die from?" and "is it contagious". This left everything to the "rumor mill" where guests were stating things from "flesh eating bacteria" to "diabetes" to "guests were in a fight." Our first stop was supposed to be Maui for Haloween, with costmes and all, taken for the event. Instead we had to go to Honolulu, for Halloween (because we needed to go to the seat of the islands so the coroner could remove the bodies with the Honolulu Police Department----in our "getting off the ship pictures in port" you can SEE THE YELLOW POLICE TAPE. We had to walk past the Honolulu Police Homocide division cars to our taxi.

When we were supposed to be in port overnight (to accomodate the Halloween parties, etc.) we left Honolulu at 11pm, just as things were going.

If we stayed behind and got a hotel (at our expense) could we catch up to the ship in Maui (island hop at our expense)? NO...we would forfeit our ticket and have our luggage mailed to us at home!

We had a list of (4) very real complaints, in addition to the above and all fell on deaf ears. The only customer service offered was to tell us how inferior we were as we "only" went on (4) cruises.

Maybe Celebrity should put into their commercials, passengers looking that the lava flow as the ship passes, gagging from the stench of human feces in the sewer system-with other passengers remarking that it might not be the sewage but the dead bodies on board decomposing.

Yeah, we can't wait to go back!!!

WOW. Good thing it wasn't one of you or your party that died on that cruise ship. Can you imagine HOW THAT WOULD SCREW UP YOUR ITINERARY???
