casinos at sea

If you lose enough you get a comped cruise.... ;p

That sums it up.

It is like land casinos... sort of. The more you donate, the more perks you get. Think of gambling thousands, not $100. When you are onboard, they have brochures that help you. If you search on CASINO here, you will find some stories.

Some people get a comp cabin on the NEXT cruise. Some get a few hundred off the current cruises. Some get free drinks while playing.

TOTALLY tied to actual play.

Some people get a free cruise based on their play at a land based casino, but still have to pay a special fee ($20/day/person), port fees and taxes. When we arrive aboard, we get a casinos at sea card and get free drinks while in the casino.

People cruising with Casino at Sea lose a lot more in the casino each cruise than two or three cruises actually cost.

Though I am sure there are people that fall into that category, making a blanket statement like that is a big reckless.

We gave gone on a lot of cruises and my wife & I gamble lot. She plays the slots and I play the tables. Believe it or not I usually win, and I mean up to $8000 a cruise. My wife though loses a lot on the slots. She gets every year invite for a free cruise and I have never received any. So I think they give these to people who Lose and not to people that win. That's just my option.

Actually... most casinos track overall play and theo. Those playing slots suffer with a much higher house edge, therefore more attractive to future offers. Those playing blackjack have a much lower house edge, and therefore less offers.

Though they look at losses, I think the biggest factor is similar to land casinos - amount actually bet factored by the house edge.

Most land-based casinos give the most comps to slot players, followed by table games, then poker players. Obviously, the more the casino makes on your play, the more they reward you.

This is not entirely true. I brought $300 w/me to play with and it was the amount of money that was won and played back into the machine, along with winning $5,000 that got me a free cruise.

I got 1000 US to play with, out on the EPIC in May. I Paid off my stateroom account with that same money and still had some left over. I left down 80$ and a comped cruise to Greece in October plus 132$ against my stateroom account. I feel like I came out a winner. I had a bit over 5000 points in 7 nights. 1 point =5$ slot play

I'm up to around 8000 points now after my last couple of cruises. My last TA I paid only half of what the fare would have cost me had I not booked through casinos at sea. No that I hit the next level of card I called to book my next longer cruise and was comped a oceanview room for free. Free is $200 per person admin charge plus taxes, port fees, and gratuities. But I was able to upgrade that to a B1 and essentially pay $3100 less than what the rate was for both myself and my girlfriend to go on a 14 day cruise. Then I took advantage of a solo 1 week cruise in spring for the "free" oceanview room. My single supplement was waived and my out of pocket cost was a little over $400 including beverage and dining I think. I know the full rate was just short of 1900. So I saved $1500 there.

My total gambling losses for 2 TA's and the 1 week Caribbean cruise? Probably around $5000. So close to a wash. But since I'm going to gamble in the casino anyway I may as well take advantage of the Casino's at sea rates. There are other perks like snacks, bottles of wine, free dinners, etc. So overall I feel like I'm doing alright but definitely not ahead. :)

I have been comped 2 balconies, 4 mini suites and full suite for my last seven cruises over a 4 year period. I won money on every one of them except the last one. I earn on average about 12000 points per cruise and play blackjack and craps 95% of the time with about 5% on slots and other table games. I lost over 10k on my last cruise but I am still up over 20k overall. I average about 20 hours gambling per cruise. The formulas are there but they also look at what they might actually get from you if you have a bad week.

My wife and I are both at least Diamond with Harrah's/Caesar's. We haven't been on a cruise in 20 years and are now getting back into it. We have 3 NCL cruises booked over the next 17 months. Three questions:

1. Do they mail you the comp after the completion of the cruise?

2. Is there a time limit for taking it?

3. Can you pay the difference and upgrade? For example if we were offered a balcony room and wanted to upgrade to a suite or the Haven, could we do that for the difference?

1. No, you usually have to call, but occasionally they will mail offers for specific cruises, i.e., a slot tournament cruise or the like. Wait a few days after you complete a cruise before you call.

2. Not really, Ive called 6 -7 months after a cruise to see if they would offer me anything based on my play, and that has never been an issue. I guess if you waited a year or more, it might be an issue.

3. Yes, we do it all the time. But it isnt the difference of published prices. They have their own pre-designated pricing, and it sometimes makes sense, and sometimes does not. You just have to ask. I have found that the upgrade price offer differs greatly depending on the season and the popularity of the cruise/ship.

I cruise with CAS 4 times a year. I've found I can sometimes do an upgrade cheaper by originally booking my comped cabin category and then watching the regular prices on the cruise. For instance, we were comped an OceanView and that category was almost sold out a couple of months after I booked but there were lots of balconies left. The price of an OV was now within $20 per person of a Balcony (BD). I called CAS and asked what the cost would be to upgrade to Balcony and they moved me to BD free of charge. Never hurts to watch the current pricing and then call and ask!

Not true at all......we have been on 12-15 CAS booked cruises...many of them over 14 days in the Haven for only around $1400 for two people. Received $1500 onboard credit for the two of us many times, free drinks, snacks, wine, etc....

And we do gamble a lot.....win a LOT sometimes and lose sometimes. They do not care if you win - only count the points which you earn by playing. And everyone knows that gambling is a house game....and you will usually not come out ahead in the long run...but we have been very pleased with the rates, special perks, etc. and would gamble anyway on each of our cruises so it is a win/win for us. And we have also found that the staff are more than happy when you win as that means that you will continue to play!

If you don't like to gamble, then why even comment? For those of us that do - CAS is a nice way to save some money on cruising!

I booked my NCL cruise through CAS, I didn't have a comped cruise, just used them to get my player card discount. My question is, will I be able to board with the CAS people even though I didn't have a offer of the "free cruise" Thankyou

Few added notes.

* Being Diamond does not matter once onboard. You earn status based on play on NCL only.

* If you play enough, call shortly after you cruise to see what they might offer. Helps to have certain cruises you want to take ready.

* Upgrades? My experience is you can almost figure out the cost. Go online and look at the current price for your cabin and cost to upgrade. They will quote you something like that.

We have gotten suites and upgraded to suites in the past. On our next cruise, we were able to get a suite. But only on SOME cruises. Others were a balcony at best. Depends on how they are selling.

Now, I'm sure that my casino gambling will eventually catch up to me, but I've been on eight cruise ships with casinos, only gambled a lot on two of them (8 hours - under $1000 each time) and out of those 8, won three jackpots totaling around $3000. Those other six cruises I probably spent a total of $200 combined. I also have been comped one cruise and been called for a BIG discount for another. So, I know I've been lucky, and I can't say this is normal. What IS normal? -----They got me going on a lot more cruises ----and most AREN'T comped.
