Why is everyone so unhappy?

I'm sorry but I tried to post this before but it disappeared. Sigh. But I was wondering why so may people were so unhappy about their cruises. I go on a cruise to relax. I don't have to clean my cabin. I don't have to shop for dinner, I don't have to do the dishes and I don't need to cook. I can do what I want on the ship and have no one to answer to . I don't look for everything that might be wrong, such as cracked bathroom shower tiles or someone not painting the outside of the ship. My house is not without problems either. So why do so many people expect perfection? It truly is beyond me. This is my vacation, get away time. Why should I expect perfection? I don't have it at home.:)

No cruise on any line is perfect. I've had what some would consider major issues on some cruises but I still count them among my best cruises ever. My home isn't perfect... I'm on a cruise where someone is cleaning my cabin twice a day and I have a wide variety of eating options 24/7. I'm on a cruise; life is good and I'm very fortunate to be able to do so.

Some folks are not happy if they are not unhappy. Therefore, they make themselves miserable and expect the rest of us to listen to their comments and to be similarly miserable.

You are on a cruise, everything possible is done to make you a happy camper. Don't sweat the small stuff.:p

Pam, I so agree with you. I would really like to meet you sometime on a cruise. I enjoy my cruises so much that I really don't understand all the negative stuff. Life is good if you make it that way. You have to think positive.

Oh please, mepamgo, do come over to the P &O boards and repeat this post! I was just browsing some of the other boards out of interest but I so agree with you.

So many people moan about the smallest thing, a speck of dust, a small mark on the carpet, the food being too hot/cold/bland/spicy. My home isn't perfect either, and I dont expect the ship to be. Now of course I produce a gastronomic feast every night at home,:D:D but when on board I am just so glad someone else has cooked and cleared up instead of me!

Well said!

For the most part, things go smoothly on a cruise, but sometimes there are problems. I think many people come here to report the problems they had and sometimes ask advice about what to do about it. Then some people just come here to vent. I don't think this board would be all that useful if it were just reports of how great everything is. The bad stuff is instructive, too.

I'm totally with you! I don't even look for cosmetic problems on the ship. Sometimes it's hard to not notice that the food wasn't that good, but also agree with you that I didn't have buy it, cook it, or serve it so how bad is it really...

I think many posts are just people wanting to vent somewhere that people will understand what they are talking about. I don't have any friends or co-workers that cruise (oh, occasionally but not regularly) so they don't care or understand. Maybe just the ear of people who "get it"

I understand where you're coming from but there are certain minimum expectations that would tick off any cruiser. Such as running hot or cold water, a toilet that flushes & doesn't back up causing a stench during the middle of the night or worse yet overflowing and having air conditioning that actually works without waking up in the middle of the night in a hot sweat.

Yes the cracked tiles can be overlooked & the meal that might not be cooked to you liking or no towels or chairs available at the pool but there are some major items can make for a miserable trip real quick.

I've never had a bad cruise on Royal, ever. Just returned from a 6 day on Navigator. Great food and relaxing time. Another booked in April on Majesty. Then April 2017, on the new Harmony. Unhappy? Nope... Only when I hear whining from people who should me happy to afford to go on a vaca at all[emoji41]

I am thrilled with our cruises

Me too! I have loved our cruises, even if little things go wrong. We enjoy all the relaxing we get to do, with others cooking, cleaning and waiting on us. We get to go yo fun places and we get to enjoy as many or as few activities as we want. We simply don't look for the little problems.

Post of the year. I know it's still only January, but the polls are closed.

I think sometimes the cruise lines set themselves up for critical guests to find fault.

Their glossy brochures and TV ads give an impression of perfection on board. The ships are gorgeous, the food photos look like Michelin 4*, the models are beautiful, the sky is blue, the white gloves on the stewards create an 'image'. Some folks board expecting that to be reality.

If their toilet doesn't flush or they don't have hot water one night for their shower, they start to crash and burn and the small little slip ups become major catastrophies.

Welcome to the internet where the angry and unhappy come together to complain about everything. I just laugh at them, if their life is so bad that all they have to look forward to is winning on message boards then that says all I need to know about them.

Floridalover5623. I hear you. But..... We have problems at home to. I too have had toilet problem and showers that only have scalding hot water on ships. But still. I didn't have to pay for them. So..It was still a vacation. Nothing is perfect. I have a lot of major health problem lately so I have learned to not let the problem that I can not fix myself go by without stress.

We all have our own history, personality, flaws and preferences. Some have suffered real pain and some have been more fortunate.

You know..... it's that whole glass half full thing.

I don't criticize those who have pain. It is real to them and they suffer. If they express it here, well...... good for them. They got it out and maybe will stop stewing over it.

Sail7seas. This is true. But.. Anyone who expects that the brochures will be exactly the same as their experience is doomed for trouble. This is one of the problems of our current culture. People expect that the brochures will show the same thing they are expecting. In what world it that releaistic?

I agree! I've had wonderful cruises--not perfect, but wonderful. Sometimes when I read a review and the person is nitpicking every little thing, I wonder if they ever have fun and if anything ever meets with their approval. I've read reviews that were so negative I just considered them entertainment! What I really enjoy is a balanced review. If there are some negative things, then it's fine to mention them and I'll go knowing the same could happen to me. But, I want to hear about the positives, too! I don't expect everyone to be sunshine and roses all the time and have such low expectations that nothing ever bothers them, but I also don't expect them to be so high that they hate everything! I read a post the other today where someone was irate because they had booked a suite and there was no priority check in for them and they didn't get escorted to their cabin and it ruined their whole cruise. Sheesh.

Sadly not all who read those brochures are necessarily very sophisticated, well traveled or used to getting out of their hometown very much. They may have fantasized about that cruise of a lifetime for who knows how long and they have an image of perfect in their minds.

Of course, it isn't realistic but not everyone has the life experiences to know that.

We are never happier than when we are either planning or enjoying a cruise. That moment when my feet are on board for the first time is pure bliss! Nothing can spoil that for me, or anyone we travel with. Although I feel sorry for people who go through life with negativity, the worst is when they're rude to crew. It makes me crazy. If that's how some feel, they should stay home and save a boat-load (pun intended) of money.
