Today I learned not to look at current prices when logged in

Recommended Posts

Today I was checking my upcoming cruise to see the current prices in the hopes they dropped and can get a better deal. I was logged into the website, and was just acting like I was making a new reservation.

But something, somehow happened and all the promotions got lost on my already booked cruise, jumping the price by about $1000 higher giving me a panic attack

Called RCI (I had booked through their website) and they were able to revert it, after talking to a supervisor. Then had to go back to the supervisor to get the on board credit that was included added back. What a hassle. They did give me an extra $50 on board credit though, so I'll give them props for that.

Thankfully I had taken pictures of my original booking screen with the prices and on board credit. I didn't end up needing them, but I'm still glad that I have them.

Lesson learned, and just sharing as an FYI that there might be a bug in their website. May be best to not be logged into your account if looking at a cruise you've already booked.

I wonder what you did. How far did you get into the booking?

I've looked at cruises I've already booked several times over the months, while logged in. I actually get to the screen that asks you to list passengers. So far, my booked cruises are fine.

Could be, not really sure.;)

I didn't really go all that far, just to the cabin selection screen (deck and room number). When I tried to go further, it gave the spinning loading circle and hung up.

This was probably just some one time bug or something. Don't mean to cause alarm to anyone! Just more of an FYI just in case, and it can be valuable to keep pictures/screenshots of quoted prices for peace of mind.

Unfortunately, it won't help....your IP address is the key. If you're trying to price it using the same computer you used for the original booking, you can't get it. I've tried over and over and came up with this reason. I can never price out a cruise if I'm already booked anymore. It's gotta be the IP address associated with your name.

I have to use my DH's machine...I always do the booking...

See! Just went to do a mockup and it won't even list my sailing for me. Jan 26th not even on my choices. I input params for Month of Jan 2018 leaving from Galveston. I assume it's because it already knows we're on it...I am not logged in! Just another subtle way to keep you from getting reductions.:( The days of multiple credits are long gone folks....

This is a known bug. Numerous people report it on here. When they call up and get them to revert it they get told stupid things such as "it's your fault for looking at your booking on the website".

They're just costing themselves money in the long run by having to hand out OBC like you've just reported.

I've never seen this reported by a booking not made by someone in North America though so I wonder if it's something about the coding that effects those bookings ?

We price already booked cruises all the time, logged in and not with never a problem. Their IT problems are so widespread it's giving them a lot of credit to think they could be able to set things up so devious as to track IP addresses just to stop price checking. Or I guess maybe it's just another unintentional IP screw up.....:p

My hubby owns his own IT business and he says its entirely possible....

I don't buy that it is an IP issue for 2 reasons.

1) I can switch browsers on the same computer and it'll work.

2) Computers on the same home network using a standard ISP will report the same IP address in their requests, and that would be the IP address assigned by the ISP to your router.

I've had cookie problems with the RCI website from time to time, and clearing them out fixes things. But then even Cruise Critic is guilty of cookie problems. I'm not sure what they are storing, but after awhile the cookies exceed browser cookie transmittal capacity and I get a 400 error and the browser says it's because of the cookie string length in the headers.

You are not alone. We booked a cruise on Allure yesterday that sails in November. Today, when I logged in to start planning, our balance due was over $800 additional. Called C&A department, they repriced it back to original pricing. Definitely a known bug, this happened to us 2 years ago on one of our Freedom OTS cruises, its a total PITA tech issue that I wish they would correct. Their advice is to stay out of the reservation as much as possible! Really?? How are you supposed to plan, book dining, shows, drink packages, etc & not access your cruise info? ... frustrating.

The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I was also advised not to go to the reservation page through my cruises. Instead I was advised to go to the main page and enter through "already booked" option and you can get to the cruise planner that way and to also do your set sail pass that way as well. I did that and it worked fine.

Thank you so much for sharing that info, I will try it that way in the future. :D I've been afraid to log back in as I don't have time to fool with calling them again today. It was a real pain when it happened a few years ago to have to keep repeatedly calling & getting it re-priced back to our original booking.

I was thinking the same thing (with number 2). The home router would be the IP address that got sent (and the individual machines handled through their router addressing). I was figuring it was more of a cookie issue, though assumed they had done other browsers to test that. I end up using 2 browsers at home, partially because a couple of sites I use to won't work with one or the other. So I'm used to flipping to a different browser to try things out.

Thanks for the tip, I see the direct links to cruise planner and online checkin. I'll be sure to use those instead.

I was a little concerned, because I had planned to check cruise planner often to check for discounts between now and next August. Really don't want to deal with calling (again!) to fix it.

Same thing happened to me three days ago. I found a last minute promenade room at a super price after an age and resident discount and booked it mainly just to put me closer to Diamond.

Booked it online, paid full price and got an email confirming fully paid.

Next day I went in to do the online check in and it said I still owe $948. I called and was told that the price shown was correct and I still owed the balance. After arguing, the lady went to check everything and came back to say that I had done something to rebook it which changed it to the current price.

After much insistence, I was finally transferred to a resolution specialist who eventually corrected it with no explanation as to what happened.

Runs fine for me......same computer and all.

I never have these problems, and have around 20 active bookings. Is it because 19 of them are through a TA?

Never happened to us either, and all our bookings are through a TA. However, I thought I remembered someone reporting this same problem with their booking which was through a TA.

Agreed. I also remember this. The poster said that RCI told them they managed to cancel their cruise through 'my cruises', even though there's no way to do that

My issue is with mock booking. I have no problem navigating My Cruises.

I totally cleared all cookies and used 2 different browsers just now, and the cruise we're booked on still will not show up on the cruise planning for a mock up booking. I am not logged in.

I always, always, use chrome incognito to access cruise planner. No cookies. [emoji2]

The TA website has similar issues. If I login to manage a client's booking and check current promotions from the TA site, it visibly reprices the cruise on the website, but it doesn't actually save as long as I exit out of the reservation. It's gotten to the point that I also regenerate the agent's booking invoice/receipt every time I manage the booking, just so I have a paper trail showing the proper price, and if it does ever actually save the higher price for some reason I have proof of the appropriate price.
