Yay zero days!!!!

Recommended Posts

Well I'm beyond the single digit dance to sail away day! Today is sail away!

However,

Due to a malfunctioning windshield wiper on the damn plane. I am stranded in Vancouver and missed embarkation!!!! I will not meet up with the grand until Tuesday (that is if I can get a flight to Skagway).

Lesson learned folks. Always fly in the day before u sail. I'm crushed that I am not on board the grand right now but have been crying about it all day since the first 10 minute delay.

I figure I'll make the most of it. I'm flying to anchorage tomorrow and I booked a room at the Sheraton ..... What kind of trouble will I get into there I wonder,

Once I land in anchorage I am to call the delay transit dept of princess to get my flight to Skagway booked. Then I'll book a hotel .).

So, for the mean time I'm at the river rock casino in Vancouver. Wishing I was on the coral (I think so anyways) as I would of totally made her sailing north bound today. But alas, I'm gonna have some drinks and some fun maybe. My waitress here at the casino is a bit of a knob and apparently does t want me to hang around until 9 (when the band comes on). But hey I'm a customer too lol

To all the wonderful people sailing today on whatever ship I wish you nothing but smooth sailing, calm seas, and memories of a lifetime!

Peace and love from a tearful Canadian anxiously awaiting boarding the Grand in three days now!!!

Lesson learned. In all cruises prior I flew in the night before. I booked flights this time through princess .... I'm gonna make the most of it. But still super bummed :(.

Bummer for sure. I hope that you had the Princess insurance??? Good luck with the rest of the trip.

Sorry to hear about the flight delay resulting in missing the ship! :(

Purchasing your flights through Princess, don't they cover the expenses of getting to the next port?

Thanks for sharing your sad tale as an example to encourage others to arrive a day early at the port. Hopefully you won't need a flame resistant cover & everyone will kindly accept your cautionary tale.

At least on land you get some free internet access & hopefully your journey to the ship in Skagway goes smoothly. :)

[emoji22] for you! Glad it's a lesson learned, and on the bright side, posting your experience here will hopefully save someone else from having no this happen to them! The weather here in Anchorage is still gorgeous, so you should be able to enjoy downtown tomorrow. The Sheraton is a great hotel, just don't walk from there because the direct area around it isn't the best. I think they have a free shuttle to anywhere downtown, though. Thank goodness you booked your flights through Princess, so they'll help you get to Skagway! Best wishes to you getting to the ship, and cheers to you having such a positive attitude!

This is 1 occasion I'm VERY glad about limited flights from my home town to the nearest embarkation point. My plans have also been changed by Princess cancelling my original sailing, but I found a 3 night cruise, same ship the Golden Princess, same Window Suite reserved, for $35 LESS than the original 2 night price in April 2016, AND Princess is giving me $AUD55 for the inconvenience of the cancellation. I now have to fly to a different State Capital city for embarkation, so am planning a quick 2 night visit to my State Capital to catch up with a family member experiencing poor health, and enjoy a visit to the Adelaide Zoo to see the Giant Pandas, Wang Wang and Funi who is my special favourite! I'll then fly into Sydney and stay with my cousins for a couple of days, and they'll bring me down-they're an hour out of Sydney on a property-to embark from Circular Quay on the Friday. I will also overnight in Melbourne to check out a recommended hotel with good Disabled Accessible facilities which, with the Golden Princess mainly sailing from Melbourne will be an essential need for me in the future if I tolerate the ship's movement on the 1st cruise.

You have a great attitude and that is truly a blessing at times like this. Sometimes things beyond our control happen and we can let that spoil everything or make the best of it and move on. You will probably be flying into Skagway on a float plane and that should make for a memorable experience.

Safe travels and enjoy!

Dixon

PS I agree with the traveling to meet the ship at least a day early.

This happened to us in February. We missed the ship in Los Angles, gave chase and caught it two days later in Mexico.

What I want to point out to you is what happened to us after we arrived in our cabin.

The normal paper delivery of stuff to our cabin did not happen. We ended up making 6 trips to Customer Service desk correcting items on our bill sheet to looking for our post cruise transfers.

Our room steward really saved our bacon several times by pointing out that he was making deliveries to other cabins but not to ours, i.e the colored straps to go on our suitcases showing our departure time.

Hope everything works out for you

Bob

Well, if you're flying a long ways to catch a ship then I can see flying in the day before - definitely. We fly to Seattle same days ads there's plenty of flights we can take JIC to get to the ship. Plus, trip insurance. That's a must, we don't take any chances there. We also fly to LA the same day. You have a great attitude, me, I wouldn't be so happy. But it's a great adventure isn't it?

We were somewhat worried about this as we have to fly to Fairbanks to start the land portion of our cruisetour next June. However, as the first night of the cruisetour is a hotel stay we are thinking it "should" be OK to fly in that same day. Is this bad thinking?

I'm so glad you made it to Anchorage! Humpys is a fav here! I also recommend Glacier Brewhouse, and for coffee, you must have Kaladi Bros.! Have fun on your adventure to Skagway tomorrow! I once heard a comedian make a joke about flying into Skagway! [emoji6]

My mom and I are starting a cruisetour in Fairbanks next week. We elected to fly in a day early for a couple of reasons.

1 - We're coming from the east coast and have 14 hours and 3 flights to get to Fairbanks, and we're landing at 1057pm. We agreed we would probably be exhausted and would rather have a "slow" day where we can sleep in a bit if needed.

2 - If we miss a flight or one is cancelled - not the end of the world. We have plenty of time to catch up and get to Alaska without missing a large portion of our tour and having to figure out how to get to a different location independently.

3 - Kind of related to #1, but again, gives us time to adjust to the time change. I know the river cruise might be a bit hokey, but I'm looking forward to it and don't want to sleep through it!!

4 - A lot of time on kayak.com led us to find a GREAT flight deal leaving a day early that will pay for the extra hotel stay. We'll have a couple of extra charges (rental car for a day, 1-2 meals) but everything added together - we decided it was worth it! Hope this is a little helpful!
