Does Carnival or Holland do anything to recognize Diamond Plus Members?

Does Carnival or Holland America or even NCL do anything to recognize Diamond Plus or Pinnacle members if they sail? Seems to me that there could be some major customer steals if they were to dangle a carrot to Royal's frequent travelers now that so many are disenchanted with Royal's direction, service, and never ending overpriced and misleading bogus sales......any thoughts?

Marriott gave me Gold status just because I was Gold on United, so it's not unheard of, especially within the same industry.

No they do not. What high up members in C & A might consider a carrot to try a Carnival or NCL brand, people loyal to those brands might consider it a slap in the face for them to subsidize perks for first timers. C & A does not recognize loyalty to Carnival or NCL brands. It does not even recognize all brands under the Royal Caribbean umbrella. Good question though.

I was a Delta Diamond member and I became dissatisfied with Delta when they left the Cincinnati market. I called United and they matched my Diamond status. I was able to keep it as long as I gave them six flights in the first 6 months. That was easy to do as i was flying at least twice a month at the time.

Getting back to the OP's question....Carnival Corporation cruise lines, (Carnival, Holland America, Princess, P&O, Cunard, Costa, Aida, Seabourne... don't even recognize the status between the different lines under their umbrella, as RCCL does...your C&A is recognized on Celebrity and Azamara....

NCL currently is like Carnival....they have no reciprocity with their new sister companies (Oceania and Regent Seven Seas).

What would you expect them to offer? What would make you sail with any of them? Sailing for a first time with any of them would not necessarily make a person want to continue to sail. Why just Diamond Plus and Pinnacle, are Diamonds not frequent enough cruisers for you? Emeralds also have a decent amount of cruises. D+ and P's are not the only ones who may be disenchanted with Royal.

HAL does. If you've cruised any other Carnival brand, HAL gives you 1 star status.

Think I should start planning my next trip to Vegas instead of my Next Cruise. Maybe I'll stay at the Mirage, they have Dolphins there. Do they still have the tram to Treasure Island? (I know MGM/Mirage sold TI since my only visit to Vegas.) Then I can go across the street to Margaritaville and see Pink Flamingos. Maybe take a trip downtown to the Golden Nugget, sneak into their pool area, and ride down a waterslide through a shark tank.

I can get The Bahamas, Caribbean experience and so much more in Vegas.

For now, I'll keep the one Royal Caribbean cruise I have booked.

As for getting reciprocal status on a competing cruiseline, I wouldn't be too happy if a Carnival or Latitudes (Norwegian) Platinum member got Diamond Plus benefits on their first Royal Caribbean cruise as I'm only Diamond, so I don't think it would go over well. (BTW, I sailed Norwegian while C&A Emerald status, and now I'm Bronze status for Latitudes, just like anyone else sailing Norwegian for the first time.)

I think what we will see is Carnival Corporation in their efforts to synergize their 9 brands come up with a strategy to encourage upscale spending loyalty programs, much like GM tried to do in the 50's & 60's...when you are young and just starting out buy a chevy and as you become more successful and age buy a cadilliac....start out cruising carnival...work your way up to seabourn

Its been sometime since I really visited Vegas. I used to live there, moved back to CA right before my sister moved to Vegas. I would stay at her house for an extended weekend (sometimes up to a month).

We are planning a trip there this summer or next, depending on when we can all settle on a date for a family cruise.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to do this, If RCCL was to offer say Carnival Diamond members instant C&A Diamond level I think you would see some loyal Carnival cruisers jumping over to try out RCCL.

I don't think it would work the other way as I don't think Carnival's past guest programme is as good as RCCL.

Hey, I don't need M life. I'm getting a glorious 7 days in Vegas in July, almost free, thanks to Caesar's Inc. properties in AC and their generosity. They may be bankrupt, so what the heck. lol

I haven't heard of such an initiative, but given the general levels of dissatisfaction, and also curiosity about how other lines might compare, it would probably be a good "carrot" to gain business. People of higher loyalty levels might feel it's a good opportunity to try something new. They can go back if they prefer their usual line, and not really feel they lost anything by giving it a try.

Yes, the difference is that if you completely stop staying at Marriott's, you will (mostly likely) no longer be platinum with them next year... Hyatt is trying to lock you in with them. Or at least get a larger amount of your business.

Since (at least currently) cruise line loyalty program levels are for life, there would be less incentive for other cruise lines to status match. You could then easily have high levels in every program, without sailing much on those lines.

If the industry goes to something where they only use the last couple of years sailing history when determining levels, we might see something more like the hotel programs.

I don't think it's if but when that will happen - to keep that Diamond status you must sail every 2-3 years (other wise you drop back to Gold). And in the future that Diamond status will be based on what you spend not number of nights.

Agree, Carnival doesn't get as much at the top tiers.

Disagree that about RCL cruisers not trying Carnival.

On average is less expensive, and with their 2.0 upgrades, many might find Carnival a better cruise value.:)

Same can be said for NCL, and MSC.

AS long as RCL offers free drinks to D, D+, they are most likely not going anywhere!

But if RCL takes away that freebie, its sell your stock time, cause the rush to leave will begin. :)

However, I know some casinos will give automatic upgrades based on status at other casinos.

No, you are wrong . I am lifetime platinum, my platinum benefits will never expire. They are trying to woo a good customer of a competitor
