Do you tip the casino host?

Hi Everyone.

Like the title says, do you tip the casino host on the ship. I never know whether i should tip or not so thought i'd ask everyone's opinion on cruise

I tried tipping the host on the Jewel, she took very good care of me, made dinner reservations for the specialty restaurants and picked up the tab almost every night. She wouldn't take it, said she wasn't allowed. I tried very hard to slip her a tip, and she said no. They have a great Casino team working the Jewel.

I did the same thing on a couple other NCL ships. No tip.

I usually bring gifts. Chocolates from my home town.....seems like the whole crew gets to enjoy them!

I can't give candy away. I eat it all.

At times when I do tip, I put the money is in a thank you card.

I was told the hosts don't accept tips. Slot attendants do - I always tip one or two of them that were particularly helpful the last night of the cruise.

We never tip the host...but we do tip the dealers and slot attendant, if it's a large "hand pay".

Recently tried to tip the hosts of the Pearl $300 by enclosing it in an envelope with a thank you note - on the last day do the cruise. I was told the same thing BUT they did tell me that they could use it for their upcoming cruise casino staff upcoming party -to which I heatedly agreed was fine with me.

I also tip casino staff whenever I win a jackpot....and very generously based on their treatment towards me during the entire trios!

Also left $100 for the casino cashier staff as they are a separate entity and had a "tip" jar at the back of the cage....

Host Cash tip, Probably not,

as it might cause a conflict with Mgmt.

A gift is usually Kosher for a good host, or even a Gift Card.

I don't tip the host, but I will place bets for the table workers if they are nice.

but I have always tipped my casino hosts and never been told no. Why is it any different than tipping the conceirge, ( who always takes it)

I tip the Dealers and cocktail servers and only tried tipping the Casino host twice and both times they declined the tip. Once the host said give it to the dealers as a extra tip...It was $50 and I did just that....they were happy cause I had a awesome week and had prob tipped them over $400 already during the week when I had winning hands on 3 card poker etc

There's a few times though where the casino host was a total jerk and I had spent and lost loadsss in the casino, still tipped the dealers very very well when I had good hands but the Host was a hard nose. I asked the 4th day of the cruise if my wife and I qualified for a complimentary steak house dinner

Most times we"ll get this without ever even asking with a bottle of wine even

Anyway the host without looking at any paperwork etc. Said IF u had played enough n spent enough you would of recieved it already 😳😳

I said well you've seen me in here each day for 8-10 hours playing $25 minimum and I'm currently down $1,000ssss and u can't even look at paperwork to make sure of my play etc

He got even more of a attitude......I do have to say this wasn't the Norm and found out they didn't even track my play correctly for some reason that trip

That was on NCL and treat me bad once and I jumped ship back over to sailing with Carnival and so far am Soooo Happy I did. The hosts have been very gracious and nice people

I always tip the host because I think it's the right thing to do.

fyi on royal, they do tip you for losing. It's called a rebate

First let me say everyone is free to do with their own money as they see fit.

The casino is one place on a ship that I personally would NEVER tip (with the exception of $.50 if I get a blackjack and get it in the payout, or a $1 or $2 if I hit a number straight up on the wheel of steel) Besides the normal % take that a casino has the cruise takes a lot higher then a land based one, with the exception of 6* cruise lines that return 100% on all casino & bingo tournaments, have you ever watched how many people play the slot or Blackjack tournaments & compared it to the amount they pay out? A few tee shirts, key rings, and a few cash prizes amounting to less then 50% of the take. Also if the casino has an electric poker pro table which I admit I do play, they take up to $6 per hand, no dealers or staff evolved at all, on a cruise 2 years ago the players told the floor that if they did not give us some free drinks we would stop playing and move the game to the card room or someone's suite, needless to say it took less then 5 minutes for drinks to arrive and were followed up every 30 minutes with another round, and NO it was not me who suggested that we stop playing over the free drinks. [emoji1]

As the entertainment staff do not normally get a share from the daily service charge there money is made up from Bingo, it is a huge cash cow.

On one HAL cruise they played bingo everyday saying there were holing a percentage of the money brought in for a Super last day bingo bonanza, last day bingo was moved into the theatre which held close to 2000 people, there was not a seat to be had, a lot of the bingo lovers were playing 2-3- or even 4 cards, last day cost was $20 per card, everyone was expecting close to $50000 in prizes to be given out during that session of bingo, well this is how is went, 10 games, a line or 4 corners paid $50, the full house paid $250 on the first 4 games and $500 on the next 4 games, then came the BIG final cash bonanza game, 1 line paid $250, 4 corners paid $250, 3 lines won a 7 night cruise and the full house won a whopping $3000 yes only 3 zeros after the 3, so do some math and work out how much they made in that one day alone, plus what they held from every other days bingo. I must admit that was about 5 years ago so I don't know if HAL have changed the payouts.

If I get a big win in the casino I would give it to my cabin steward as I am sure he needs it a lot more then the casino staff, remember on most if not all cruise lines the casino staff are European so they are earning a lot high wage then the Non European, in my opinion.

On Royal Caribbean the Casino Hosts are allowed to accept tips that aren't part of a slot jackpot or hand pay or after the outcome of a table bet.

You can tip them at any other time and they would gladly accept it.

Tried very hard to tip a casino host on the Breakaway a couple weeks ago. She refused on all my trys.

I have an awesome host in Atlantic city and tip him generously. Not every trip maybe 3 times a year. But when I do I need to slip the $$$ into his jacket pocket. He does so much for me. Suites, food, scooter, etc always comped. I can call on a Saturday night when it's sold out and still get a room from him. He's the best host I have ever had.
