Not a ship excursion, but our favorite thing is Nachi Cocum. Relaxing, easy, reasonably priced. We've gone twice now, and we'll be going again in October. Not so good if you have kids, but for an AI beach, it's wonderful.

many cruises under my belt, and wanted to do something different besides the beach or snorkeling, those are great, but, wanted something new for a cruise I was on this past December. I found a cooking excursion that was coordinated by a local chef. "Cooking with Josefina". There was about 11 total (max) in the group. Got to Josefina's house, went shopping at a local market for the ingredients then went back to her house to prepare a wonderful, authentic Mexican lunch, along with freshly squeezed limes for margaritas. I'd highly recommend this and would not hesitate to book it again; all in my group said the same. Cheers!

We agree with above poster. We have been to Cozumel twice and each time we have done Nachi Cocom. We love to relax on the beach. There are very few children. It's all inclusive for lunch and drinks (alcholic and otherwise). The waiters come to you. My idea of island life and for that day I'm living the life.

They also offer add ons if you wish such as snorkeling, parasailing, etc.

Check out Cozumel Amazing Race.

It has great reviews on Trip Advisor.

We're big fans of the show and will be on the Allure for a stop there in Aug. It looks like fun!

We did the Fury Catamaran and beach party. It was a lot of fun, they stop for snorkeling part way to the beach location. They feed the fish so there are lots to see, there is a photographer there taking underwater pictures of you that you can purchase. The beach has inflatable slides and trampolines in the water and lots of chairs, umbrellas and a grill. Drinks are included.

We did a sea turtle swim that was booked through the ship (Royal Caribbean). The only bad part was the ferry ride, 45 minutes of pitching hell and sick passengers, but after that, it was a comfortable bus ride to a resort, and then a guided excursion. We went into the water right from the beach, with two groups of about 12 and 2 guides each, one in front and one in back. There is a reef a ways out into the ocean where it is 10-30 feet deep with seagrass, where the turtles hang out to feed. We saw and got great pictures of numerous turtles, and a barracuda (yikes!).

Afterward, you could shower off (outdoor shower), change, and head to a sort of snack bar for lunch, which was included and served hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, tacos, and guacamole. Also included were soda and tap beer.

There was a little time to swim on your own, then back to the bus and ferry, and finally the ship.

We have been to Cozumel many times and always do the beach thing! On our last trip we decided to try something else, so we did an excursion called "Salsa, Salsa, and Margarita" and loved it! We were transported from the pier to a beachside resort with an open air covered balcony area that faced the water. We were greeted with frozen drinks(alcohol or non) and nice cold wet washcloths for wiping our hands and faces. They provided tables with nice tablecloths and setups for the preparation of three savory salsas and one dessert salsa. We also made two different margaritas and a guacamole dip. They brought out quesadillas and chips for the salsa we made and also fruit and Rompope which is like a custard and ice cream. We then were taught the salsa! One of the best things we have ever done in all our travels!

If you want a relaxing beach day, and not spend a lot of money, Paradise Beach is a winner. It's a short taxi ride from the cruise terminal, a $3 pp entrance fee, which includes lounge chair, umbrella, beach and pool access, clean showers/bathrooms/free wi-fi. They have a bar/restaurant to purchase food/beverages. We had a great day there in March.

If you are not crazy about a sandy beach and you like to snorkel, Money Bar is hard to beat..Good food, good drink prices, and not very expensive. They rent snorkel gear there and there are steps into the water, $9 taxi ride up to four people...

We have done this twice. It is a great, fun time. Plus lots of Margarita's!

Most definitely love Mr. Sanchos. It's a short taxi ride from the port and then $55 for all you can eat and drink. They have a beautiful pool with a swim up bar, lovely beach with lounge chairs, swings, etc. There's water toys etc. The food is excellent. They put a buffet out for the entire time with things like hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos, quesadillas, chips salsa and when your ready for some serious food, grab a table along the beach and order off the menu. Their coconut shrimp are huge and to die for. My husband always gets the whole fried fish. Goggle Mr. Sanchos and check out the trip advisor reviews. Can't wait to go again!

It looks like you have your son traveling with you, so it probably depends how old he is.

When our DD was around 10, we enjoyed the ship's excursion to Xcaret, a, "eco-archaeological" park on the mainland Riviera Maya. It took a 45-minute ferry ride and then a short bus ride to get there, but it was worth it. There were lots of water activities, a performance by the papantla "flyers" and acres of grounds with archaeological sites to explore. I think that it would be difficult to do this with young children, but that older kids and teens would enjoy it.

We have also just cabbed it to Chankanaab, which is about a 10-15 minute ride from the main part of town. It has a beach with snorkeling, opportunities to interact with dolphins (extra cost), and really good Mexican food. It's a fun and easy way to spend the day.

When my DH and I have traveled without DD, we have twice taken the ship's excursion to Passion Island, once by ferry and once by Twister boat. I am not sure if it is still offered, though. It's kind of like visiting a private island for the day, with drinks, food and most activities included. Beautiful beach and views. If you have any back or neck issues or don't like getting wet, avoid the Twister boat!

Also agree that Nachi Cochum provide a great all-inclusive beach day just a short cab ride from the pier. It's really nice that they limit the amount of people, so it is not crowded. It's really lovely to be escorted to a palapa and chairs that are yours for the day.

Both Passion Island and Nachi Cochum have a more adult atmosphere. Not a lot of people drink to excess, but in both places, we have seen groups that have gotten a little rowdy.

Hope this helps and that you have a great cruise!

We did the Salsa, Salsa & Margarita's excursion which you can only book through the cruiselines! We loved everything about it! You learn how to make 7 different salsa's, 2 differnt types of margaritas and you learn how to do the Salsa, thus the reason they call it "Salsa, Salsa & Margarita"! Also incuded is all the margarita's you can drink! :D At the end you have access to their beach property for the rest of the day or you can request to be taken back to the port! It was really a great day and lots of fun!

Oh man, its been nearly 20 years since I've been in Cozumel (on the NCL Dreamward) but the excursion I remember the most was going to tour the old ruins. It was fun, but one of the main things my family remembers the most is that the bus tour driver and host were peddling for donations the entire way there and back. I hope that aspect of the trip has changed.

I did a cooking class with Josephina the last time I was in Cozumel and it was great. This is a hands on class that starts with the class going to the market to pick out the ingredients for the dish you will prepare.

We did the Amazing Race thing back in Dec 2011 and it was great. Guys on one team, girls on the other. Losers (girls) had to wear face paint at one of the shows later in the week. We made them get painted up like reindeer.

The excursion is a lot of fun and you get to "see" a lot of things in and around the port that you normally might not notice. Highly recommended.

We have gone SCUBA diving - as a ship's excursion as well as on our own. If you are certified, the Palancar Reef is a must dive! We have done the Harley Tour ( one of you must have the correct driver's license for this one), and we have rented scooters just outside the port. Both were fun. I now pack my own head scarf just in case we take a ride so I can wear it under the mandatory helmet. The Cozumel Bus Bar Hop was so much fun, I have booked it again. We have also walked into town - about 3 miles - and enjoyed lunch and margaritas at a local restaurant. So much to do - so little time!

We did Tulum Mayan Ruins on our first trip to Cozumel. It was a long and hot day in August, but we really enjoyed it. The ferry ride to Playa del Carmen can be rough, so if you're prone to seasickness, take something the night before.

Our second trip, we went to Passion Island, a shore excursion through RCCL. It does not seem to be offered any longer. It can be booked privately. It was a nice beach day, all inclusive with food and an open bar.

Looking for something new this time and may do the Playa Mia Beach Break.

My all time favorite is the Cozumel Bar Hop excursion. I have been to Mr. Sanchos and a few other beaches and nothing has compared to this fun day! I am proud to say I've done it twice now and will again when I'm back in Cozumel. You start out in Downtown Cozumel in a nice air conditioned van or bus. They take you to 4-5 stops on the other side of the island that is very primitive. There is not electricity and cars/people are only allowed sunrise to sunset. The beach is more of a wild side and each beach bar has it's own individual charm. One is more of a nice resort with a pool, etc. Others are known for their amazing food. You definitely can drink on the excursion, but some prefer to consider it a "beach hop" instead and that is great too.
