NEW Suite Upgrades....

Recommended Posts

No, in full honesty I am jealous. I should have put in the :) face for clarity. We drive 2.5 hours just to get to our airport to fly to FLL. I did the drive from Orlando to Port Everglades one time. It wasn't bad. It seemed long, even though it wasn't. Once we hit the coast the last hour flew. It was the time driving in the orange groves that dragged.

As for the nice Ontario residents in your building, I will take credit for them.;)

Oh well, back on topic. Someone mentioned car service as a perk. I like that one.

I am finding this 'new perks' thread interesting mainly b/c I have seen a big difference in perks from ship to ship. On the Quantum in January, for example, there were strawberries, cheese plates or cookie plates delivered to our suite almost every day. Then in June on Liberty we saw one sorry looking cheese plate delivered one day and two very small strawberries (choc. covered) on one day. That was it for the that cruise (which was a 10 day, while the Quantum was shorter). I feel the 'perks' have lessened so the fact that they are promising NEW suite perks, I am a little leery of. Interesting how they keep prolonging when the new perks will be announced in detail.

Despite all of this, I do love Royal Caribbean but they have been severely testing my loyalty (as in the MDR food on Liberty was terrible, IMHO and those of my traveling friends.) However, food is a very subjective subject...

How dare you try to bring any logic to this thread even if it is off topic. This thread is about suite benefits not CA status/benefits/complainers/D/D+feeling under appreciated for their contribution to royals revenue.
I know, I temporarily lost my senses and moral compass!

I've enjoyed reading this thread and keep coming back to it to read (just for fun) what folks are saying.

Some of you are very opinionated and have extremely opposing viewpoints. What amazes me is that I find points with which I agree on both sides.

We cruise often because we are retired. I did take a look to see how many times recently and counted 21 cruises last year (typical for us since retirement) in a variety of cabins/suites. I certainly do appreciate the nice things that Royal does for me because we cruise with them so often…whether in a suite or lower priced cabin.

;)This thought just occurred to me::rolleyes: Why am I posting here?? I don't know that answer but it is probably related to the fact that, even those there are opposing viewpoints, posters are being very courteous.

In reality the real "perk" for us is the smiles per nautical mile, and our family has a ton of points in that "program". The thing that I enjoyed was going from being a gold C&A member to D+ in under four years. All the memories, fun and friends that we made were well worth the dollars spent.

Well said!!!

This really is a great thread.

Over and over I read that D+ passengers only got there with 3-4 day cruises in an inside cabin. No basis in fact, only that the same lie has been told over and over. Every time these posters use MANY, like they knew. It took me 11+ years to make D+.

You all know what I think, D+ made it by spending a lot of money.

Is it so bad to think suite guest deserve NOTHING? Look at it this way, Suite guests pay for real estate, not perks. If you buy a million dollar mansion does that mean you get perks in your community? If you buy a $120,000 Mercedes does that mean you get the fast lane? No, of course, why do suite guest deserve more than square footage?

Enjoyable thread.

I believe that suite guests deserve perks in addition to the large real estate they are staying in on the cruise. They are paying a pretty dollar for the suite, for the length of the cruise. That is my point -- the perks they will enjoy will be for that cruise. As you make it further up the C&A ranks, we are Diamond not yet D+, you will have the perks you have earned on each and every cruise once achieved.

Agreed. Just a random "sleight" picked out of nowhere and pretty baseless, and no substantiating evidence it is true at all.

But the reality of is they pay for real estate AND perks. The real estate value equation is all out of whack as you go up in room categories, so of course perks and benefits are where it is at. All the competitors have their own version of the suite life.

Look, if we spend $2000 on a cruise, and another guy spends $10,000 on the same cruise, is he better than me? Does he deserve to be treated nicer than me? No. But has he basically paid for, and deserves to receive, additional amenities and services? Yeah, for $8000 I think he deserves a cocktail reception and a private restaurant, and yeah, some reserved seating, etc.

The more you spend, the more value comes from intangibles, gotta have it, feel good, and I want it because I can afford it type of factors. And that's A-OK. Suites pay a lot of freight.

This is entertaining. On another note we have enough snowbirds in Florida. Generally Florida is referred to as the home of the newly wed and nearly dead.

We'll be heading south as soon as the grand kids don't like us anymore. Right now they're too young to know better. :D Rhode Island is the a nice state but pretty soon everyone will be on the dole and nobody to pay for it.

Of course im still waiting for last March to arrive too so I can get the new and improved casino royale vip benefits too. Guess rccl calendar operates on a different calculation than mine.

Except use of the CL is not a perk....it is part of the fee...it is real estate paid for. Nothing to do with C&A Level...it can be one's very first cruise with RCI...pay for it, you get it....

No different from any land based resort/hotel...pay extra $$ for a suite, and you get "Club Level" privileges...

Fly first class and you have access to the presidential lounge...or whatever the particular airline calls it....it is something one pays extra for.

WE stayed in a Suite last summer in Disney...you could not even get on the elevator that took you to the floor that had the suites and lounges unless you paid for those privileges....nothing to do with how many times I stayed at Disney...all had to do with what I was paying for on that particular trip.

Same on a Cruise...I'm paying for the suite and everything that is included....I'm also D+, and can take advantage of those perks, based on my cruising history.

C&A "Perks" should not be confused with what staying in a Suite offers.

And people should not confuse C&A points and perks with Suite perks....they are not the same, nor should they be. I fully believe Suite cabin guests should have their own additional perks.

I know, I'm just stirring the pot.

I was fortunate to get a large bonus. So we are considering upgrading to a GS from an E3 on a future cruise. The upgrade cost was anywhere between $1,600 and $5,000.

Where is the value? For $1,600 I could buy a premium drink package and 7 nights at a specialty restaurant (X two). The more I consider the possibilities, the less I think it's worthwhile to spend that much money.

Anyone out there would like to convince me?

Stirring the pot, is just fine. I totally agree with your logic, unless of course the large real estate that the suite gives you is very important. I have not figured out for myself, what exactly I would need a concierge for -- perhaps that is just me. The Diamond Concierge was helpful one time, in taking care of rearranging something for me....but most of the time, its a nice hello in the lounge and that's just fine.

Okay, here is a poster that does know. Once upon a time cruise points were based on cruises and not cruise nights. Junior suites and above got an extra point and there was a provision for long cruises. When RCCL converted to cruise nights each point on the books at that time became seven points. Strangely a short cruise in a JS became 14 points. So the conversation did help a few cruisers make D+ or P. That happen several years ago and as you suggest most members who eventually made D+ did not benefit from it

They converted over in late 2010? That was my last cruise with the old points. 2011 shows by nights in my completed cruises. My 2004-2010 cruises show the old point system.

I love it, this is great. It is all about VALUE and value, while related to money isn't how much it costs.

I am guessing RCCL is looking at, "How do we make spending an extra 60% for 20% extra space in most cases a good value?"

I would use Lexus and Toyota as a great examples of Value. A vast majority of my friends that own Lexus feel it is a good Value, even though there is usually a comparable Toyota model on the road. What makes it a better value? Finish out, Details, Service (free loaner cars / will bring car to you if needed)? These are all good things based on Value Add.

If I were RCCL, I would clearly be wanting to minimize the amount of "free upgrades" that I have to give in premium locations because the suites aren't sold out and at the same time I would want to maintain the price points of these spaces. It all boils down to can they find the sweet spot for making an expensive space on a ship a great value.

I agree 100% they need to keep C&A Status Perks seperate from Suite Perks and find a way to maximize the ....wait for it...value of being a loyal cruiser.
