What is the nicest thing a RCI crew member has ever done for you?

Recommended Posts

First let me admit that I stole this thread idea from Carnival. I thought it would be a change to hear some nice things.

My story - on our very first cruise (many years ago) we had cheese blintzes for dessert one night. The next night I looked at the menu and none of the desserts appealed to me and I told our server that I sure wished I could have the cheese blintzes again. To my surprise she was able to get them for me.

One more - we were cruising on our anniversary and when our server found out, he made me a rose out of a napkin and tin foil. It was lovely and I still have it.

On the Radiance 4 years ago, we had a true AFT balcony and to my surprise there were no lounger chairs when we arrived. I was so disappointed. My husband asked the room steward if he'd be able to get us some. (we thought he'd say no). He had two lounger chairs on our balcony within a half hour! My husband tipped him well :)

On our Freedom cruise last year we had MTD dining, but we had the same waiter and asst. every night. On one of the nights we decided to eat with some friends and the asst. waiter saw us across the room and came over and said he'd really missed us that night and told our friends that we were great people and they were lucky to have us as friends. It made us feel really special.

I also appreciate little things like when we get towel animals.

We enjoy all of the little things that just make us feel noticed.

2009 we sailed on the Explorer Of The Seas out of Bayonne to the Caribbean. When my wife wasn’t around I told our Cabin Attendant I was aware there are no longer evening pillow chocolates. I told her I would appreciate it if she could find some and put one on my wife’s pillow each evening. She did and in my opinion she went above and beyond in her efforts. My wife didn’t realize RCCL stopped doing this and couldn’t figure out why she was getting the evening chocolates and I wasn’t. When we got home I told my wife the story.

I can't remember the ship (MARINER?) and for a while our A/C just wasn't working. Our room steward gifted both of us with little foldable fans. Like a geisha would use. (Not battery operated). THey were pretty and we used them a lot on that trip. Now they got on every cruise with us.

I love Indian food and eat it regularly here as we have MANY Indian restaurants in Plano, due to the high tech environment here (Texas Instruments, HP, MacAfee etc etc). So we have a large Indian population working the high tech industry here. I happened to be chatting to my (Indian)waiter. Now I know they have Indian food in the crew mess and they were having my favorite, aloo gobi, the next day and he said they'd bring me some. However, we were eating in a specialty restaurant that next day, as well as the next. Lo and behold 2 night later, in addition to what I ordered, my friend and I had a VERY VERY deliciously spicy aloo gobi w/ all the trimmings. The head waiter came by and he and my waiter told me the assistant waiter made if for us. That he used to be a cook so he made it just for us. Let me tell you people at the tables near us were asking "What is that and can I get some?" But only we got it. I was impressed, touched and they got WOW's as well as an extra something at the end of the cruise.

PS: Best aloo gobi EVER.

Wow great thread! Let's see there are sooo many wonderful things so many times just that little bit extra. There used to be a wonderful orange salad dressing in the MDR and on a following cruise I happen to mention wish they still had that and the next night there it was. It may seem small but it made my cruise I had it every night. There are so many times they went over and beyond I had someone do something personal for me and it really made for a memorable trip[emoji267][emoji41]

Years ago while on the Adventure we returned from the beach and we had a message on our phone to come to the pursurs desk, When we went ,we were told of an emergency at home.

They couldn't do enough for us to help with arrangements. To this day we are very thankful.

On Enchantment last month, the first night in the MDR, when it came time for dessert, my DD wanted cheesecake, but it wasn't on the menu until the following night. I don't eat much dessert, so I said "Nothing, thank you" and our head waiter kept trying, but there was nothing really appealing to me. I left before the deserts came for the rest of the group, and when the deserts came, she brought me a plate with the word "Nothing" beautifully written in different colors of gel frosting. My DD took a picture to show me!

The next night, they had a sale in Chops ($24, I think), so we had dinner in there. When my daughter went back to her cabin, there were 2 cheesecakes in there with a note saying "Enjoy, we missed you". Needless to say, she got a really nice tip from us at the end of the cruise.

We were on the Allure in August for our 39th anniversary. While we got off the ship in port the 3rd. day, our cabin steward decorated our room and left us a bottle of wine and a small box of chocolates.

Last year on the Grandeur my sister hurt her knee right at the beginning of the cruise. She went to the doc on board and was told to rest it and ice it and of course not to walk on it for a few days. Luckily we had a large very nice suite she could enjoy while confined to the room. She asked our room steward if he could find a large zip lock bag that he could fill with ice. He immediately got the bag of ice and thereafter he brought her a bag of ice at least three times a day and one at night. He was very attentive to her.

He got a nice tip!

Just this week on Q we were chatting with head waiter Lumi Nica in AIG at lunchtime. My wife told her that she was a fan of souffle's and asked which restaurants onboard served them. HW checked with chef who said that they weren't being served anywhere on Q, but that he would be happy to make them for us. The next night in Grande we were served two souffles for dessert. Thank you Lumi, thank you chef.

Aboard Mariner, we had made friends with the bar manager and he knew my proclivity for a specific tequila that I drink copious amounts of while cruising. The following year aboard Mariner, RCI had stopped carrying my brand of tequila but our favorite bar manager we had befriended the year before was still on a Mariner contract. He searched the entire ship and managed to produce one leftover bottle of my tequila. He went above and beyond! He did receive a healthy tip. :D

But the one I remember most and did not take advantage of. My room steward was from the Philippines ask if we had ever been there. I said no but it looks like we might be in Manilla next year for a few days. I said if you are home could we get in touch and could you show us around. He said no problem if he was home. I told him we would get in touch with ours hotel and air dates etc. He said "NO", you will stay at my house, and have a true taste of the Philippines and I will take care of all necessary items. Of course I would have provided necessary funds for him to do it.

For those who have never seen a foreign city from a local resident you have missed something special.

On our first cruise (Rhapsody), we made quick friends with the singers, dancers and other crew members, and did some bar hopping with them in Key West. The friendships continued throughout the week. We had an amazing time. We wondered if cruising was always that much fun, or was the first one unique. So.....6 weeks later we did the exact same cruise to test it out. While standing in line to check in, the purser saw us and shouted "the guys from Phoenix are back!". He runs over to us, lifts the velvet ropes and escorted us for a priority check in....AND had a bottle of champagne sent to our room. Makes you wonder what really happened in Key West😉

Earlier in the cruise I contemplated buying some hot sauce I saw in one of the ship stores. I figured I would get it later and moved on. That evening we were having a great meal and I said to my wife "the hit sauce would have really been awesome with this! The waiter overheard me, asked me what I was talking about and few minutes later out of the blue, he shows up with it at our table. Now that to me was going way above and beyond. He said he actually went up to the store and bought it!

Nice one OP! We had the same thing happen to us on Voyager many years ago, except our dessert was chocolate soufflé. We mentioned it to the head waiter, and on the last night of our cruise they brought out a batch of soufflés for all of us at our table.

July 2009 my wife and our two sons left on GOS for a 10 day Caribbean Trip. Though not our first cruise, it was to be our last together. Two months later, my wife and best friend of over 30 years lost her year long battle with cancer. We took the cruise knowing this might be our last, and determined to make it great. And thanks to the crew and RCI, it was! One of my most wonderful memories was a crew attendant in the Windjammer that would ride my wife's rented scooter to and from the table to a out of the way parking place by the main entrance. We rented the scooter because Sharon was gradually having problems walking due to her treatments. Anyway, Sharon and I always got a laugh when the same staff member would rush to help her with the scooter. I don't think the guy was ever on one, and he had this enormous smile while he would drive the scooter, weaving around the tables and the isles of the Windjammer. It was one of many lasting memories of the special cruise.

Now almost seven years later, I am leaving again on Grandeur the 21st of March. This trip will be another first cruise with a wonderful woman I have been together with for the past two years. I'm glad the GOS has been thru refit because it will have a different look, yet still have the charm I remember. And most of all, the exceptional crew that work so hard to make each cruise special for us guest.

I'm sure this trip will also be one of those great memories that remain with us forever.

On one of my Explorer cruises, I was walking down the hallway, and a cabin attendant was cleaning a room with the door open. Next thing I know he is calling after me, and gave me a big welcome back, he wasn't even my attendant on this cruise. He remembered me by name from 6 months before.

A few years ago (can't remember which ship it was) we sent a bag of laundry on the wash and fold day. When the laundry was returned, one of my wife's socks was missing. She mentioned it to our cabin steward and said it was no big deal but wondered if there was a lost & found.

That evening when we returned to our cabin there was an iced bottle of champagne and two glasses waiting for us.

My wife asked our steward if he knew where it came from and he said he talked to his supervisor about the missing sock and the hotel manager told him to give us the bottle.

I'm going to guess that Barbara was your headwaiter.
