Refund from Princess?

Just curious, I forgot to ask onboard....if you are due a refund back from your account, how long before Princess will post it on your credit card?

Thank You!

If it is refundable OBC, it can take from 2 to 6 weeks. This winter we received ours in 2 weeks. The refund is by check in a plain envelope that does not mention Princess, and may be thought of by you as junk mail. So, be careful what you discard without opening.

If the refund is for something else, like a cancelled cruise, don't know the answer.

The reps at Pax services for some reason always tell you it will go back on your credit card. Ain't true. It comes in a plain white envelope from a company that has no relation to Princess. It's just the company they use to process refunds (and it changes every so often).

As stated above, it takes 2-6 weeks.

They used to let you "cash out" on board. We got >$200 back in cash on our last day on the ship once. That has stopped, now if you have more than $25 or $50 left over (can't remember which), they send a check.

Good Luck,

We are still waiting a refund since Feb 6th. We diligently waited the 4-6 weeks and received nothing. Eventually emailed customer services on April 1st. Responded within 2 days saying they owed us £84 and the cheque would be sent out. Still haven't received it. Have emailed several times both customer services and the person who emailed to tell us the cheque would be sent out. They have never replied to these emails which is very frustrating. Finally rang today (struggled to find a UK customer services number so went through the normal number for booking a cruise).

They have said that a cheque was sent but they will send another. Strangely we don't have any problems receiving a whole array of mail from Princess when we need to pay for our next cruise!!

When we stopped using Princess and requested refunds of our on-board future cruise deposits, it was refunded to our credit card within a couple of days.

It's about the only customer service they got right.

Really glad I read this post. We've had an OBC refund a couple of times, and got it in cash the day before leaving the ship at cruise end. I now know to watch for a plain envelope not marked with Princess logo if ever again we're owed a refund. Am I correct that we still need to go to the customer desk to let them know if we are due a refund? They don't do it automatically. Correct?

It's automatic.

If I remember correctly, the accounting they put in your mailbox on the last night will tell you how much debit/credit you have with a notice that if it is less than $XX you can get cash or wait for the mailed refund.

It was explained on CC some months/years ago, by someone who knew how this stuff works, that Princess can't refund to your credit card unless you used your credit card to put it there, i.e. paying for extra OBC before you leave. I think that would be refunded to your credit card rather than mailing a check.

Nope - I bought myself OBC and still received a cheque.

We have had an OBC credit on our last 2 cruises and the refund has come from a third party company in Oregon and it has taken roughly 2 weeks to arrive. So if you do get an envelope from a company you don't recognize look very close at it before throwing it out unopened.

We sailed at the end of March, beginning of April this year and our refund was credited back to the credit card we used to purchase it, not the credit card we had on file for the cruise

It takes a couple of weeks. I almost threw it away. As another poster said, it looks like junk mail with no indication it was something from Princess.

How do you get obc refunded? I thought you had to use it or lose it. We are doing a b2b in Oct and have $650 on the 1st leg of 7 days and then the 15 day leg we have $1385. Although between tips and drinks and wine packages and maybe an excursion or two maybe we won't have any left over.

Hello Getaway. Some credits are refundable while some are not. From our experience Princess has been very good at using the nonrefundable crisis first, then going to the refundable credits next. We have never had an instance where we waited longer than 3 weeks for a credit. As it appears that your credits are sizable, I would suggest that you contact your travel agent or Princess to determine the terms for the credit use.

We were on the Diamond Princess Singapore to Yokohama trip (11-25 April 2016) and had $79 of on-board credit remaining when we disembarked. We received a check yesterday in the mail. We were told on board on the last evening that if we had a balance of less the $25 we should go to pick up the money at the desk in the atrium. Anything over that amount would be mailed out. It worked just that way.

Be sure to keep your final folio listing the amount of refundable OBC you are due. On our last cruise, we were sent ~$200 less than we should have. I had to send a copy of the folio and check. They took care of it, but if I hadn't saved my folio, I'm not sure how I could have proven the amount I was due back.

I knew there was a reason I always save the folio until I get the check.;)

Gee I never knew this. Usually I just go to the casino and charge whats left onto my seapass card and then cash out at the casino, since Princess does not charge a fee for this. Celebrity charges 4% if you put money on your seapass card.

I know part of my obc can't be used in the casino so hopefully they will use that part for tips, drinks, etc.

Thanks for the info. :)
