  1. Why not just buy PVP? I'm not trying to sell this. Just easier. There is a difference between regular and Platinum. She will have to shop around to make sure she gets a non-Princess Insurance that has cancel for any reason. If so, sister "should not" have to pay for supplement. Keep in mind, some independent insurance policies require purchase at time of booking (not at time of final payment). From what you are posting, am I understanding correctly: Your sister is still outside of Final Payment (with hopefully a refundable deposit)? AND niece has not been told by boss yes/no? When is the cruise?
  2. @chubbypiggy Your sister needs to review "her independent" travel insurance terms of agreement. If she had purchased Princess Vacation Protection, your niece would have received FCC (cancel for any reason at 75% or 100%) and your sister would be allowed to cruise without a solo supplement. Policies vary with insurance copies. Hopefully, they had a good one that would include cancelling for employment or any other reason. I am not quite clear? Is your sister pre/post final payment? @New2cruise2022 Name changes can be down through Princess and/or travel consultant for a fee. Way back when....it was $50 after final payment. No charge before.
  3. I was near the entrance to the Reserve Dining Room on the Caribbean Princess. The Party Band was playing in the Piazza. I could clearly hear every song....loudly. It was not a pleasant dining experience if you have to shout across the table to have a dinner conversation. I do object that they (Princess) have decided that the Piazza is a "better" location for the Party Band than the Explorer's Lounge. It is not a good dance floor. There is not enough seating for everyone. Move it back in the Explorer's Lounge.
  4. Not that I ever looked, but thank you for pointing out these links. I didn't know that.
  5. EZ Air: 800-545-0008 (route and assistance desk) airdepartment@princesscruises.com If they are overloaded, it will default to Princess call center and you will get an agent who knows very little about EZ Air. They may be able to transfer you....
  6. If this matters at all...(speaking from West Coast to Hawaii/and NOT beyond). 1. Island weather is cooler in April than October. 2. October is still hurricane season in the tropics. 3. but you could get winter swells as well. 4. There are whales in April but not in October. If it doesn't matter to you, I would choose April over October.
  7. @Ken the cruiser This has been a long journey from Toronto to the Caribbean and back. I am so glad I had the opportunity to visit with you multiple times on our common voyage. Mahalo Nui Loa for an entertaining live and beautiful photos. But I would be amiss if I did not come through with my promise of local pigeons. I did not make it to Honolulu Zoo (yet). But found you an "almost" partridge in a pear/Christmas tree at Ala Moana Shopping Center. And like you and your lovely wife, the two lovey birds... And just hanging loose (sorry for the dove invader).
  8. I was traveling with a Ruby passenger. Nothing. I even inquired through Crew Chat and it was confirmed. Captain Circle parties are not in the Patter. Elite cocktail only closed for that one night. BTW, our Elite/Suite/Platinum Lounge was move from Skywalkers to Club Fusion. When I asked why….answer was “too many Elite//Platinum”. Skywalkers only holds 160 passengers. I prefer Club Fusion location.
  9. Most of my meals were at 5 PM at a table with friends. Those dining times last almost 2 hours. Once, I requested a "faster" serving time so we could get to the show by 7 pm. We were out of there by 6:35. I do prefer a slower paced meal. Time to chat and enjoy the company. I know, we are holding up the table for someone else. PS...if, If, Princess reinstated Traditional times in at least one dining room, you wouldn't have vultures hovering over your table (aka Sheldon Cooper).
  10. Did you have insurance? I filed my claim with AON for 2 nights. I provided documentation from the Medical Center. After 60 days, I was given a link to direct deposit to my checking account instead of receiving a paper check that would have taken longer. I was not given the option for FCC and do prefer to have the cash in my hand.
  11. Time to buy Apple...and I have stock. In all seriousness, I am so sorry to hear of this new monster problem. I can't imagine that the app would not work on an Android after all these years. Are they charging you for picking up the phone to make Medallion App orders? Assistant Food and Beverage officer came back with a definitive answer. He said that the $5 charge was a delivery charge if using the phone to place your order.
  12. On my most recent cruise....Princess only had a Captain Circle Party for Elite and Platinum. Another loyalty benefit gone. It was a long cruise with many days to celebrate the Ruby and Gold folks. So sad. Not even a drink card or acknowledgment.
  13. There was a new wine pairing sake’s pitch offered when you dined at the Crown Grill. Didn’t happen on the voyage. But they were pushing it before. Day meal. I’m not a drinker so declined $$$.
  14. I just returned from a 12 day cruise in a suite without plus package. Survived okay but it did require some advance planning. It helped that I am Elite, had 2 mini bars, and OBC. “Saved” over $500 per person. But the all inclusive is so much easier to cruise with.
  15. The port will provide wheel chair assistance from curbside (if you are lucky...otherwise a very long walk from street to terminal at San Francisco). There may be a wait. One "driver" from check in through security (port agent). Another "driver" from the waiting lounge to get you onboard (Princess crew). Definitely bring a cane. I haven't seen so many walkers as I have seen more "rollators". There are many different versions/some very compact/some triangular. Hope you have a cabin more central on the ship so that you won't have much traveling to do. A ship is the best place to recover from surgery. Better than a rehab facility!
  16. A mini suite is misnamed. The cabin has absolutely no suite amenities. It is just a larger balcony cabin (with a bathtub). All of the above comparisons are spot on. My sister is a HAL suite traveler. One of the most important factors for her are laundry and special dining areas/ concierge lounge. Only Royal Class ships and newer Sun Class have these lounges. If you are happy with suites on HAL, you would need to book a FULL suite to match amenities. BTW….suite laundry is express same day service. In by 9 : returned after dinner.
  17. Once, I happened to step out on the Promenade Deck to look at the setting sun....and saw the Green Light Flash. Second time in all the thousands of times I've looked for it, both times by accident.
  18. I'm not sure if there is a "formal" tour. I took my sister up to the SPA to show her around and get a Thermal Suite sticker for suites on the Caribbean Princess. To my surprise, we were given a hostess to show us around. Then we got a complimentary 10 minute massage sampler and a sample bag of aroma salt rub with a loofa. Be prepared, the salt solution leaked out into the plastic bag it was in when I had it INSIDE the airplane cabin with me.
  19. I think this is very low on his/her list of concerns. Service is always above and beyond (within reason).
  20. ATM fees on a cruise ship are very high. Unless you have a card that will reimburse you for fees, it is best to bring large bills with you. Guest Services usually will have smaller bills that they will exchange for you. They have run out....They do not carry much foreign currency. (I think...I recall... they helped me out with some YEN).
  21. Are you asking what will happen to you or your cabin mate? With no insurance, this will be a costly cancellation. The party cancelling will lose 50% and the one traveling solo will have to fork over a solo supplement. I believe you can cancel the beverage package before sailing. Solo cruiser will not have an added (beverage) supplement due to only one in cabin is package. Is there anyone else available to add to the cruise to avoid the solo supplement charge?
  22. In San Pedro: You will meet in a designated area (depending on how large the group is) Be escorted off the ship (given an in-transit card). Down to Street Level, out the door, up the escalator, through security (no coffee or open bottles of water) Wait in a separate area of the terminal Board before everyone. You will not have to do safety drill again. I was told that the Iowa is free on in-transit days. Good way to spend a couple of hours.
  23. Just returned from the CB. No bar soap available. I trusted my room steward who I asked. He was very honest about all of my inquiries. Elite/Suite amenities: eye mask, shower cap, lip balm in a gold bag.
