  1. As a solo passenger, I go the the Restuarant Hostess Desk shortly before they open and they are always able to seat me without a reservation. Go at whatever time you wish to eat and ask.
  2. You will have to be off the ship by 9:30 A.M. at the latest. I would do an excursion that ends at the airport.
  3. Waiters know who is being seated in their sections BECAUSE they are handed that information on a piece of paper handed by the Restaurant Hostess to the Restuarant Steward doing the seating and then to the waiter. That piece of paper has the name of the guest, number of people in the party and if any of the guests have a food issue.
  4. EXACTLY Every crew member gets a "Base" Salary. Many get gratuties added to it. It is recorded on their payroll statement which many to not know how to read. A good many have their salaries direct deposited which confusing them further.
  5. Knowing Martin (the General Manager former Food and Beverage Director), there will be a special Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas Dinner served in the Main Dining Rooms complete with Green Bean/ Mushroom Soup casserole. More food than you can eat.
  6. Decorating on the Norwegian ships I have been on begins about 1 A.M. or so the evening/morning after Thanksgiving (this year the 25th of November). By the week before Christmas the ships are fully decorated including an elaborte Gingerbread Village with lots and lots of white frosting used as glue and snow. Enjoy
  7. Thank You Sir, as always-- a voice of authority and reason.
  8. "Free" laundry also depends on your Lattitude status (Gold, Platinum, Sapphire, Diamond and Ambassador).
  9. At the moment, The Escape is sailing between New York City to Port Canaveral. Due to arrive tomorrow morning (19 November).
  10. Should be up until late night of the 1st and 2nd of January.
  11. I would leave it alone. On Embarkation Day, you can tour the Spa. Then you can buy passes.
  12. There is no way to know from cruise to cruise. For example, this past week at the end of the Panama cruise, people were still leaving the ship after 11 A.M. From what I understood, most of the issue was with the Immigration people inside the terminal. Once you leave the ship, you go into the luggage holding area (which is huge), find your luggage which can take awhile, then you clear Customs and Imigration, then there is a long line for transporation. Since I have to fly to the West Coast,I a book a room at an airport hotel and fly out the next day. Keep in mind that several other ships at both Miami and Fort Lauderdale are also disembarking passengers which can make for long lines at the check-in counters at either airport.
  13. If you don't find bagels and lox, ask the food and Beverage Director or the Restaurant Manager.
  14. I bring two white washcolths from to put in the safe before storing anything in the safe. I always bring a small flashlight to double check the safe before finishing the going home packing.
  15. Food and drinks at Harvest Caye ARE NOT part of Meal or Drink packaages. You room key will NOT let purchase meals and drink. Harvest Caye is a collaboration between the government of Belize and Norwegian.
  16. The Escape is still sailing across the Atlantic. She is due to arrive in New York Cityon Thursday the 17th.
  17. If you have not selected a cabin yet, make sure that it is on a deck with cabins above and below. You DO NOT want a cabin above or below a public space.
  18. The Biss travels a long way out to sea and up the Western Coast of Canada before turning into the Upper portion of the Inside passage. The Bliss does not sail between Vancouver Island and the mainland of Canada (lower portion of the Inside Passage). The Veedam would be a small enough ship to have sailed the Lower Portion of the Inside Passage.
  19. My standard answer for choosing a cabin is make sure that there a cabins above and below you and not public spaces. Makes no difference as to which side of the ship. Enjoy your cruise
  20. As early in the Season as possible. Hopefully there will be lots of snow in the mountains and the glacier ice wil be white with a slight tint of blue along the edges. I try to go either before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.
  21. Blankets and hot coco is a Haven thing at least on the Jewel. Yes, Park Service people come aboard to make presentations. The last time I was on the Jewel the Park Service people had items for sale. Do not remember other than books and maps what they had for sale.
