Is Peggy's Cove worth the time and expense in late October weather?

Hi! We're doing a Princess very late October cruise of Canada/New England and for ease are doing several Princess excursions. I have heard such mixed reviews of Peggy's Cove and am debating between just doing the Hop On Hop Off pink bus tour by itself or doing the most costly and time consuming excursion that also includes Peggy's Cove (that part would basically take up the morning if we choose the 7:30 time or the afternoon if we choose the afternoon time.) We're trying to keep costs down since we are doing more excursions than usual with all these great ports so I'd appreciate your feeling about the Peggy Cove aspect at the end of October. Thanks!

I say yes, Iconic Peggy's Cove is worth a visit any time of year sometimes late in the season and during the winter the most spectacular. Not sure what ship cruise excursion costs are but maybe can get a group for private tour together which would probably be more economical.

Personally, I would do the hop on/hop off bus.

As a native of ns....Peggy's cove is beautiful, even in October. You will probably miss the best of the colours, being late October. But then the weather can change everything. It is unprotected from the storms... AND I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH!! Stay off the rocks where they say. Rogue waves come in, they are slippery on a dry day and people have been swept out and killed. It is a hard place to get someone out of and very dangerous for the rescuers. Don't want to scare you, it is beautiful, but obey the signs. You are looking at a comfortable drive from Halifax of about an hour. It is well signed and a easy drive, so a rental car is an idea, but I would consider a GPS too. Most of Halifax is walking distance. The boardwalk from the ship, up to the casino is a nice walk. Maritime museum (with lots of titanic things) is along there as well. Citadel is directly up from there, about 5 blocks. Alexander Keith's brewery tour is a block off the boardwalk as well. The south shore is a great place to visit....but like most cruise stops, much too short. iMHO, if you are comfortable driving, rent a car and drive from Halifax to Peggy's cove, go to Mahoney bay and lunenburg. And back. You are looking about 5 hours with a stops along the way. Cheap way to go. Would probably add on a visit to the "titanic" cemetary as well. If you are not, a walk from the ship along the waterfront to historic properties, a cab up to the titanic cemetary ( they will wait, it's only a 15 min. Visit) and drp off at the the maritime museum. Don't know if they are doing walking tours at that time of year, but they are worth it, to learn about the Halifax explosion. Like I said before most things are a comfortable walk.

Thanks to all of you who have written. The concensus thus far seems to be that Peggy's Cove is worth seeing even with late October's probable cold/wet weather and crowds.

The VIA station is in the Westin Hotel a perhaps five minute walk from the cruise terminal.

Peggy's Cove will be better in October. The rocks and the sea are timeless but the crowds are fewer.

We just returned from Halifax on back to back cruises. I would vote "no" for Peggy's Cove. It's a distance and not that interesting when you get there. It was actually too cold to get out of the van.

It will not be too cold, but because it is on the Atlantic Ocean and there will likely be wind, bring a light jacket. It always helps to be prepared. If it is hot you can take off the jacket.

There is a well known saying that there is no bad weather, only poor clothing choices.

If you want to walk on the rocks, good shoes are important too.

I have been 2x in October and enjoyed it both times. And it wasn't cold either time (coming from the midwest).

We are from Illinois so who knows what we will think. LOL

Please tell me Peggys Cove is worth the trip,this is the one thing I want to do and my daughter is doing it because I want to.

Knowing if Peggy's Cove is worth the trip all depends on what you like to see. If you enjoy seeing scenery that is unique and spectacular, then definitely.

The many pictures you will see do not do it justice. If you're lucky you'll be there on a day with rough water... much more spectacular.

we just came back from The Glory I would recommend Peggys Cove along with Swiss Air Memorial then to Ryers Lobsters making a loop back to Halifax stopping at the Titanic Cemetary on the way back. the total time was less than 5hours including eating lots of lobsters. Even had time to see the Titanic museum after we dropped off the car

We were in Halifax late last October and the weather was nice. It was windy at Peggy's Cove but not cold. We enjoyed our entire day in Halifax. I will add that cold is a subjective word so it all depends on your definition of cold. Both of us only had light jackets and were quite comfortable

Well we never made this cruise but I came back here because I hate it when someone says they will come back to post and never do.The day before our cruise my daughter ended up in the ER with kidney stones.Had surgery Tues,came home Wed went back in Thurs and had surgery again today.Hope she is done with those nasty stones.We had to cancel our cruise but we did have travel insurance.We are all disappointed but at least it didn't happen on the cruise.

Hopefully we'll still get to Canada some day.
