omg pleas help with any advice. We are travelling from he other side of the world and about to do our first cruise on the glory eastern route in a few weeks. Originally I booked ocean view on level 2 but now I am thinking I want a balcony. Kids are 7 and 9 and it would be nice to get some fresh air. Plus being first time cruisers I’m worried someone will feel sick. Not that the kids have any issues on roller coasters. It’s around $150 total to bump up

To a balcony on either deck 8 or 10. I am torn whether it’s worth it or will we spend no time in room. Any advice? It’s a 7 day cruise. Should I pick port side or starboard side?

One of the biggest advantages of a balcony cabin is the location. Deck 8 or 10 versus Deck 2 means a whole lot less walking up stairs or waiting for an elevator. Our family had an Ocean View Cabin in our first cruise. We tried a balcony and every cruise since then has been a balcony cabin. Have a great cruise.

Yes! You do want that balcony! It’s a good price, and with two kids, it will give you another “room” for quiet reading, sea watching, etc. while people in the actual cabin can nap or watch noisy tv.

You will enjoy all of the cruise activities more when you also have the chance to do some quiet recharging from time to time and this is much easier with a balcony.

Hope you and your family have a great time!

Balcony definitely!!! Its all we book. its nice to sit out on the balcony at night or early morning and listen to the waves coming off the bow of the ship. very relaxing. Up on deck 8 or 10 your higher up, so its quieter, you can see more from the balcony, your closer to the action on Lido deck if you want to run out to lounge on a deck chair or grab a bite to eat. We always book deck 9 balconies and they are always quiet To go from deck 2 ocean view to a deck 8 or 10 balcony for only $150 is a steal. grab it.

Oh goodness Thankyou I think it’s going to be worth it

I’m a little worried deck 10 will be noisy

Am I better on port or starboard or doesn’t matter? Deck 10 I can get Portside near the front

Deck 8 starboard in middle or front

I think I want to avoid deck 6

Port or starboard will not really matter. Deck 10 all the way forward puts you underneath the gym which might not be a good spot. Further back - say cabins 1050-1067 - puts you with cabins on the decks above and below you, should be pretty quiet. As to deck 8, forward would be better because there will be cabins above and below you; mid-ship you would be below the Lido pool area and possibly the buffet.

I would avoid deck 6 too. Check out cruisedeckplans.com and look at what is above and below the cabin that you are looking at. On the deck plans, they also have comment icons that show important info about that spot on the deck - "across from laundry", "atrium noise late at night", etc.. If you find a good cabin location, $150.00 is a great price for the upgrade.

Happy sailing.

I haven't been on the Glory. But, looking at the Deck Plans, Deck 8 Front gets you under cabins on Deck 9, which should be quiet. Deck 8 middle you are under the pool or buffet. I'm not sure how loud the pool deck gets, Deck 10, but that would be very convenient for the kiddos.

I don't think you can go wrong with either Deck 8 or 10 Balcony, it will be a great room. As far as Port or Starboard, do you like to see the ports as you dock? If you can tell from the itinerary which direction you will be sailing in, that might help you choose.

Hope you have a great cruise!! :)

For $150 more, I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade to the balcony. We'll be on the Glory in June (only our second cruise). Booked interior last time as well as this time due to our budget. Someday hope to try a balcony. I say go for it! Especially considered you're traveling from overseas and seems like you might as well treat yourselves as much as you can.

We booked deck 6 last time aboard the Conquest, which is Glory's sister ship and pretty much the same layout. We were right above the entrance to the casino and never heard a peep. This time, on Glory, we'll be a little farther into the casino (above), but hoping not far enough to hear anything again. We liked deck 6 last time because it was only 3 decks up to Lido and 3 decks down to the Lobby/Guest Services/theater/dining room. We thought it was convenient, so booked it again this time. You mentioned the possibility of sea sickness, so remember, the closer you are to the middle of the ship, the less motion you feel. More motion felt the farther forward or aft you go. Enjoy!

Get the mid ship cabin - it's a long walk from one end to the other if you are too far forward. There really isn't much difference between port and starboard on Caribbean cruises.

For $150 more go for the balcony. Try to get a cabin that is sandwiched between other cabins - that means deck 8 forward-ish if possible. The balcony can actually become another room. If your kids want to nap, watch tv, or just get some downtime, you can go on the balcony and relax there. Just beware - once you have a balcony, it is pretty hard to go back to an oceanview or interior cabin.

Thanks for all your suggestions I decided to book it in the end. Deck 8(only other option was 6 so I wanted to avoid) but seems I have rooms above and below so I am sure it fine and it’s starboard so hopefully he see some cool stuff

Thanks so much for the input it convinced my husband in the end. He was more for “ space “ with the ocean view room but I like the idea of more light being higher up and able to open the doors if needed

Can’t wait to sail it doesn’t feel real

We were in room 1062 on Glory last summer with a 13 year old and 12 year old and loved it so much we booked another cruise in the exact same room. There was no noise coming from the gym or anything else above us. We absolutely loved the location because it was close to the entrance to the water slide and a short flight of stairs down to lido. We were able to go back and forth to our rooms easily from the pool and buffet area during the day. The balcony was a great way to "bring things down a notch" when the girls wanted or needed to chill. Also close to the ice cream! The only minor issue was the utility closet for the room stewards across from our door but they were quiet and didn't wake anyone but me. No biggie.

When are you sailing? We're going 4/28 Eastern .What room did you book? I got an upgrade offer from porthole to balcony and booked room 8252- our 1st balcony and a surprise for my husband for our anniversary. I figured it was great location sandwiched between staterooms. Congratulations and have a great time!!!:D
