Suite Life, Adventure of the Seas

Recommended Posts

We will be sailing AOS in June and I want to know if the new suite class pertains to this ship or is it only on the Quantum and Oasis class?

We currently have a junior suite booked and it would cost an additional $850 to upgrade to a Grand suite. Is it worth it since we are already Diamond and will be able to use the Diamond lounge? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you so much. I didn't think the new perks were available on AOS, but I wanted someone else to confirm that for me. And, I agree with you that the additional $850 won't be worth it for what little you do get. I have to admit I was "hoping" it would be worth it because we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary. My preference would have been an Oasis class ship, but we want to go the southern route.

Thanks again. You confirmed everything I already thought. :)

For us that would depend on length of cruise, and if that is per person or for 2. If it's a 7 night probably not but we did enjoy all the other extras on GS on Indy, reserved pool seating, breakfast cooked to order in Chops, bridge tour, reserved seating in theatre and ice rink, extra treats some nights in cabin (cheese plate, choc. strawberries, petit fours) Also you can order from full MDR menu for in room dining not just room service menu. We also had a very nice brunch on first sea day with drinks included. I realise each ship does things differently though.

No way. You'll be off the ship for all but 1 day (maybe 2 depending on your route). Too much to do on that route to spend any time in the room, and very little time on the actual ship. Any lounges or perks wouldn't even be worth it (for that much extra money anyway), when you'll only be on the ship long enough to eat dinner, maybe see a show if you're not too tired, and sleep.

I love GS ( last 4 cruises were GS) but that's a lot of money, breakfast at chops is great, along with reserved seating by pool and for shows, plus concierge lounge which has about the same drinks as diamond lounge but service is much better. Concierge can be really helpful with any problems on Brilliance a couple of weeks ago he was great. we also like the dvd player that comes with GS, but not sure if this is worth 850, of course suite is larger also.

On my upcoming 12 night Serenade Repo cruise, we did a GS simply because we are going to have 6 sea days (5 port days). The breakfast that is available for Room Service in a suite is much better than the regular menu. Also eating dinner on your private balcony is wonderful.

But only you can decide whether it is 'worth it'

I don't know if you have any tendering ports on your itinerary, but if you're in a full suite, you get priority tendering. You do not have to wait in line, the Concierge will personally escort your group down to the tender boarding area and you basically "cut" in line and get right on a tender. Disembarkation is nice, too. The Concierge escorts you to a priority line for customs and you do not have to wait in that eternal line. That is particularly important in SJU.

  • 2 weeks later...

Of all our cruises, we always stay in a GS, I think one time we didn't and then we got a free upgrade back to a GS...go figure.

We do not stay in a Suite for the perks.

We simply love the room...feels more like a normal hotel room with plenty of closets, drawers, large bathrooms, better room service, etc.

On the adventure, there is not much in the way of Suite perks...priority boarding, (but you don't need a GS for that) Reserved seating at the pool and theater...

We very rarely visit the CL...perhaps early in the morning to get coffee.

Most cruises you'll get a Bridge tour. But we generally skip them also.

It's nice to know the Concierge is there if you need any help. say with Dining arrangments or that hard to get shore excursion.....but that's about it.

Again, we like the room itself...and that is simply our personal preference.

And on the adventure, boarding goes from 11am til 5pm, so priority boarding doesn't do much for you unless you insist on boarding during the half hour that is the busiest; otherwise the crowds are small because there's such a big window for boarding.

Also, on the adventure there's usually only one day at sea, and all other days the pool is virtually abandoned during the day. Always room for those who choose to stay on the ship or come back early.

The adventure is probably the ship that is least worth it to buy suites for the perks, the real value for people should be in the size of the room, otherwise it's a waste of money.

We recently (May) did a B2B on Adventure we're D+ and had cabin #9628...Even though we could have used the CL we much preferred the DL...hopefully Sucel will be your concierge. We could have easily done a GS but we actually prefer the JS regardless. The suite perks aren't necessary at all on AOS...keep what you have but do keep an eye on JS alternate locations...our location couldn't have been better. Wonderful you will be on her for all her refurbishments...we can't wait until the bookings open for May 2018 to book again. ENJOY !!

This is so sad to hear. I'm staying in an OS on an upcoming AOS cruise. It's my first cruise in a suite and I was really excited haha. Hearing this is a little dampening.

Well don't let me dampen your excitement. I'm not a big fan of paying for bigger rooms in general because I am one of those people who only uses my room to sleep and shower and actually prefer watching the ocean go by on the pool deck. Others will swear that suites and balconies are the only way to go, so I'm sure you will like your room, even though I wouldn't, lol.

I do think though, that if you are booking that type of room for the benefits, it's not really as beneficial on the southern route for the reasons mentioned above. It's just not a route that people sail for the ship, so the ship is empty most of the day.

The OS is really impressive for size alone! We love them. But we won't spend the money these days as they are so much more expensive than JS's. You will be spoiled for sure. And it shouldn't make you sad! I say it's no wonder some people say they just shower and sleep in their rooms. If they had a great cabin, they might find it more enjoyable to stay in it than not! Enjoy that huge balcony!

Not so, I booked an inside (promenade) on my last cruise after booking only balconies prior to that because I visited an inside and didn't find it to be so bad. I actually liked it more than the balcony. I had always been told that the insides were constrictively small and horrible and too dark Etc, so I booked balconies, even though I wasn't spending any more time in the room. I travel with my child, so we don't take up much room, we don't pack a ton, and we don't hang out in the room in any way that requires more space than what the insides offer. And it just doesn't seem worth the thousand + dollars to pay for more space when it doesn't change my vacation experience (in our case anyway).

I find the balconies to be too humid, making it difficult to ever feel dried off or clean after a shower, clothes are always moist, the rooms have a musty smell and there's more rust because of it. The balconies themselves aren't enjoyable to me either; the wind makes it freezing cold, and it creates a wind tunnel; I honestly can't figure out why people love them so much. I will never pay more money for one again, now that I've enjoyed the promenade so much. But to each his own. I like that the more expensive rooms are coveted, because it makes the room I prefer so much less expensive.

Typically, we always book a JS. We love the size, and there is plenty of drawers and closet space. The only thing I miss is having a double vanity in the bathroom. Our cabin is on deck 9 on the hump right by the elevators, which is what we requested. I'm sure we will be quite happy with it and the Diamond lounge for the first time.

I want to thank everyone for your frankness. I greatly appreciate it. After reading all of the comments, we will not upgrade to the GS.

You'll love your hump location on deck #9...if you look at a deck plan you can see where we were #9628 (it was important to us to have the same cabin for our B2B) so it seems you are close to that...you won't be disappointed...enjoy!!

I think you might actually be able to board til 6:30 or 7, but muster drill is at 5:30 so most people are on by then.

Ah, had me scared there lol were sailing in january and only flight we could get lands at 3pm. Needed that buffer room in case there's a delay. (Already anxious about that timeline) :)

Sorry to scare you! If you don't make it on by muster drill they'll have you do it one on one or with a small group when you board. 3 is cutting it close, especially in January if you're coming from a snowy place, or hopping on a connection that is coming from a snowy place, but barring bad weather you should be fine. The port is like 10 or 15 minutes from the airport; not far at all.

Were flying direct from Toronto, surprisingly doesn't get too much snow, the only alternative we had was paying a thousand more for the day before with 2 connections lol I'm feeling okay with the risk, will be happier once on board though.
