LEAKED: 2020 Carnival "New Build" Rendering

According to my source this is the new LNG class ship for Carnival due out in 2020. It also looks like it'll get some "hull art" incorporating the funnel. What are your thoughts on the design, what kinds of things would you like to see on board?

According to this article, the models above are/were on display in their Southampton offices back in January. They do look almost 1:1 to the Costa renderings so there's no doubt in my mind that the images above is probably what we'll end up with.

If that is indeed the new ship, then I like the design/art on the hull. Clean and simple. They don't need a lot of art

Ike NCL.

This was out a while ago. Looks pretty darn good to me. The sides of the Ncl Shia look ugly imho.

I like it. Still looks like a ship. As opposed to a floating (ugly) hotel like the newer ships of some other brands.

Funny. Look at the stubby bow on the Carnival. It looks less like a "ship" than the floating hotels of some other brands....

It's pretty clearly based on Fincantieri's "Project Mille" prototype. They're pumping out a lot of these for several lines. Overall I like the design, but I hope that Carnival doesn't turn it into just another upsized Fantasy/Destiny/Dream/Vista clone on the inside.

....I don't believe that this class will be made by Fincantieri but by Meyer Turku in Finland.

I like the looks of the corner aft balconies!! Massive balconies reminiscent of the Oasis class aft balconies. Like it. I hope they have bigger, better pool areas. Just saw the renderings for the new NCLs and the pools look TINY! I understand these are just models and renderings, but ugggh, can someone put some though into the outdoor areas??

I still find it amazing that Royal seems to be the ONLY cruise line to really push the envelope and go into full next generation ship design mode with Oasis class. All the new Carnival stuff is just a slightly bigger version of what they have been doing forever. A few nice venues, etc... but nothing really groundbreaking at all. I guess the ships are "big enough" and they are pretty nice, maybe that's "enough" for most lines?

I've watched a video tour of Oasis of the Seas and I'm not sure I'd like it. Put a hotel on top of a shopping mall and put it on the water. I like being able to be at the Alchemy, or the Red Frog, or the Sports Bar and being able to look out at the ocean. They probably get more balcony rooms putting everything in the middle like that. I wouldn't mind a starbucks and a johnny rocketts, but I'm not a big fan of the design. If I didn't want to feel like I'm on a boat I wouldn't take a cruise.

I love the neighborhood concepts. It really makes it pleasant to go wandering/strolling around. Stop in Central Park in the evening, glass of wine and listen to the live music. Ride the Rising Tide bar down to the promenade while sipping a specialty cocktail... Head down to entertainment place after a show to gamble and swing by the jazz club. Stroll the promenade, grab a burger on the boardwalk, etc. It's awesome. There is no escaping that you are still on a ship. You don't see the ocean as much but I found that this didn't bother me one bit especially since we get oceanview balcony rooms. The entire upper decks, pools, sports zones, bars, and multiple dining venues and boardwalk all have amazing ocean views. It's not hard to find a nice spot with ocean views.

That said, I also enjoyed our last Carnival cruise and the windows/ocean view from just about everywhere. Though the atrium was rather enclosed. I didn't like that the casino was right smack in the middle of the promenade deck but overall it was a nice cruise also. Oasis class is a home run though, it really is.

I watched a 1 hour tour and the person who filmed it had a balcony overlooking the boardwalk area. The only times I saw the ocean was when he was in the very back, the very front, or on the jogging track on the side.

It's really not like that. The buffet has amazing ocean views, for one. And as I said, the entire upper decks - pool areas, sports zone, the huge solarium, etc. All ocean views. Plus the boardwalk has a neat aft view. If you prefer to have a drink or lunch with a view, there are many options including the most popular spots... Grabbing a drink then sitting down in the AquaTheater is quite an experience also, as you are surrounded by ocean while watching a high dive show. Very cool. And keep in mind it goes both ways - whereas you are enclosed on a traditional ship unless you are on lido, Central Park and Boardwalk are open/fresh air venues.

Anyways, I think the new Carnival ships look nice and all, but nothing groundbreaking. And my personal opinion is that it would be nice to see some really cool new stuff as far as overall ship design goes. Only Royal seems to have done that. I'll give Vista a shot maybe next year, we'll see.

I'd like to see a row of SOLO cabins like NCL has. Most of us that cruise solo have no need for a "relaxing" amount of square footage since we're only there to shower, change clothes, and sleep if one must. I've tried to book those cabins and they are usually all sold out. Frequently aren't even listed because they are long gone.

It certainly is a market they could address more. I would not hold my breath in anticipation tho......

Greg,

I would wonder if you're "jumping the gun" when you base your like/dislike on a video:o

BUT... it would give you a great comparison though, noting how similar your past cruises were, and ship choices as well -listed on your signature.

We've sailed the Oasis 2x's in a year because of the surprise return of the great "WOW" feeling.

The Oasis Class ships were hardly boring...as one could simply sail for the ship experience! This is a great choice for people who have that happy dilemma of going to the same ports way too frequently.

Come on, Greg... take a chance and then review, based on a real personal experience--your own:*.

If, not you will be left with that always returning sense of SHIP-ENVY, when at port, the ship next 2 you... is the Oasis!

Mike
