2010-2011 Winter Collection

When the itineraries are officially released, there will be columns of fares ranging from type A (the lowest) to type S. Because more than one cruise may share the same prices, it's easiest to key each cruise to a specific fare type. The columns for each fare type will cover the fares for each type of cabin.
Thanks I understand now. The itineraries that most appeal to us are fare type M and P. Could be better but also could be worse.:eek:

The only cruises that spark any interest for us are the Antarctica voyage or the Caribbean/Bermuda/Old South cruise.

It makes me a bit sad that the only year we could swing the Cape Horn cruise, they left out the Antarctica cruising. I'm glad to see it is back.

We like the Old South cruise, as well, and will probably sign up for it as soon as the bookings open.

I think we'll wait to see what they have in store for Marina. Interesting to note that Regatta ends her winter season in LA in May. I'm guessing she'll head to Alaska or the Orient after that?

I think you're pretty close. Traditionally, Regatta has sailed back to the Med for the Summer season. Obviously, putting her in California at the beginning of the 2011 Summer season means that she will be bopping around the West coast.

The telling point for me is that she is spending the Winter season in the Caribbean, with some new itineraries, specifically the Western Caribbean. I had heard rumors that this would be Marina's stomping grounds, and I was a little surprised that Regatta has such a firm schedule through April.

So, here's what I think, now. Regatta will do the Caribbean, then the West coast (which may include Alaska, the Mexican Riviera and possibly Hawaii) in the Summer, and come back to the Caribbean, and may not see the Med again (at least until Marina's sister ship is launched).

In the meantime, I think that Marina will still do the transAtlantic from Barcelona to Miami that was announced earlier this year, and then I think she will hightail it through the Panama Canal, maybe even back and forth again, and then head out to the South Pacific, and then on to Australia for the remainder of the Winter season (Summer in Aussie). I think that's why Nautica is staying further North in Asia, running around to China, Japan, Korea and the Philippines.

Then, because Nautica is going back to the Med through Dubai and on to Athens, I think that Marina will do the reverse of Nautica's early season trek around Africa, and finally end up in the Med to take Regatta's place.

This would take Marina around the world, from Barcelona to Barcelona, in her maiden season, and show the world Oceania's newest ship.

If I win the lottery, I'lll be aboard her all the way. The only thing is, in order to win the lottery, I have to buy a lottery ticket...

These are pure guesses on my part -- it will be interesting (at least to me) to see how close I come.

From what I have been told, the Old South cruise will be done on a one-time only basis…

...here are more specific details on the 2010-2011 winter collection itins that I was able to locate...Enjoy! :D

Kathleen,

Thanks for the preview.

I am most intrigued by the W. Africa tinerary and the one including Manila,Brunei, etc - but the timing is off for me.

Perhaps they will repeat them at least once more the following year (or with Marina).

Good reasoning. Everything fits. I can't imagine Oceania not tapping into South Pacific, nor giving up on Australia.

I would be interested in the Capetown to Singapore leg. We are doing a Capetown to Dover cruise next year in May on the Ocean Princess and even though it is an exotic itinenary, we don't like to repeat cruises.

Jennie

That's the one that grabbed both of us. If we win a lottery to take 35 days off, we're there :)

If i was a betting man, I'd wager Alaska. Then again, that's why I stay out of the casinos.

I'm on the Oceania e-mail list for news & promos. But I didn't receive any notice of this 2010-2011 Winter Collection. I did receive an advance e-mail from a TA yesterday & I saw the announcement on the O website today, but nothing directly to me from Oceania. Wonder if I fell off their list?

We just rec'd confirmation for our (2) sailings in 2011. One to the Eastern and one to the Western Caribbean.

As did we; we're taking the April 12, 2011 Southern Treasures to the southern states, Bermuda and Caribbean. No problem in getting a deck 7 stern cabin, 7116, when booking early. Actually got the deposited invoice at 9:27 AM, it's great to have an efficient travel agent.

Although why they are going to Samana (Cayo Levantado) I cannot guess -- it is our least favorite port.

I received emails from Oceania to both Betsy and I just a few minutes ago. I was surprised that they posted the itineraries and opened the booking on the same day. Usually, they allow a few days to allow folks to digest the information.

Because of the advance posting on this forum, I was able to compare all of the itineraries in detail, make my decision, and inform my agent last night to make the booking immediately this morning.

We are thinking of this one also

I agree about Samana....last time there we just stayed on the ship with many others.

An extra day in Bermuda would have been a better option ;)

The new itineraries are nice, but the prices are not cheap, despite the "promotional discounts". Take one example, 10 days Caribbean in January, 2011. PH3 at $4,799 and PH1 at $5,299. Compare this to a 10 day Caribbean on the newbuild Silver Spirit in November, 2010 (both non-holiday Winter season 2010/11), verandah at $4,118 and midship verandah at $4,318.

Both voyages include airfare, Silversea includes tips and drinks while Oceania does not. The newbuild Spirit (a brand new ship) midship/verandahs are at 376 sq.ft. while the Regatta is obviously older and its PHs are 322 sq.ft. So you save 2x$800 by sailing Silversea, and 2x$1,100 = $2,200 per couple if you allow $30 per diem for tips and drinks.

That is substantial. In this particular case comparison, it is tantamount to $2,000 premium per couple for no smoking and no formal wear on Oceania if you assume the service and food to be similar! And both voyages are on "regular promotion" and not some last minute special.

meow,

I agree. Those savings could be even more impressive (think wine, champagne, mixed drinks - not sodas) for those people that do drink. I have seen some very substantial bar bills on non all inclusive cruises.

Do you work for SS or something:confused:

You are always pushing SS cruise on the Oceania forum.

No, we compare them because they are the lines we have been on the last couple of years, and we compare them to Celebrity too (the third line we have been on). The intent is not to drive people to Silversea, the intent is to help Oceania's prices down, to the benefit of all ordinary individual consumers. From the very beginning, we time and again declare our agenda, for the benefit of consumers.

P.S. If I spend some more effort, perhaps I should start comparing Oceania with Seabourn and RSSC, any encouragement?

And worth every penny for just those two facts, plus the reputation SS has for being "stuffy". This country boy would not be comfortable...

And, what do you do with all that extra space?

I have been considering Silversea but have not done any seroius research into them. There new ship looks nice. The formal dress code does not bother me. However, extensive smoking on the ship would be a dealbreaker for me. Is smoking rampant on Silversea ships?

There are several threads on the neighbouring Silversea column of this same cruise critic board discussing this issue. If you go over to that column, you can read all the opinion!

The sailing from Chile around the Cape ending in Buenos Aires looks interesting. We went to Antarctica several years ago, roundtrip from Ushuaia, but never sailed the Chilean Fjords or been to the Falklands. Has anybody done this itinerary?
