There are people right here in the computer area writing a letter to RCI saying it's not enough. They had to line up for breakfast and lunch. Whatever. I will not comment on the compensation. But I give credit where credit is due. I would have to agree that $200 per cabin is not enough based on the circumstances. DH and I had a cabin/suite on a cheap 4 night cruise that had a mildew smell. A mildew smell. We just mentioned the fact on the comment card at the end of the cruise. A couple of weeks later we received a $150 future cruise credit each for DH and myself - for a total of $300 for the cabin. And, I say again, it was a mildew smell. We were never in fear of our lives! :eek: We were very impressed with RCI's response to the situation given that we certainly asked for nothing. But this sort of event was much more impacting on the cruisers who experienced the situation so - in fairness - I think they deserve more than $200 per cabin OBC. I hope you all have calm seas, I am sure you are very disappointed about missing Egypt and I hope RCCL does something more than 200.00 to help get over that disappointment, I know Egypt is the highlight of this particular cruise. I hope you have a safe journey back to Barcelona. Is the ship seeming to be running back to normal now??? Restaurants, entertainment and such?? Please know you are in my thoughts! After being up for about 40 hours now (couldn't hardly sleep with the swells last night), I am not sure if it was percent or degrees. But as you said - who needs a math lesson right now? We had the scariest experience of our lives which I wouldn't wish on anybody.:rolleyes: The Captain was great with keeping us informed; coming on the intercom about 4 times in the hour immediately after the event, and having his announcements translated into several languages each time. The staff have been going non-stop to clear the areas. The amount of work they have done to keep us all fed is amazing. The Windjammer was a disaster area this morning. I'm not going to write a letter of complaint because I had to line up for breakfast. A bad day on a cruise is better than a good day at work. Please continue to keep us all informed Carol. However, if last night's situation was due to an act of God then IMO $200 for every cabin on the ship seems very generous and if due to human error then not enough. All day long I've been thinking about this being the first day in Cairo and now I find out everyone had to go through this and on top of it miss Egypt completely. I'm so glad to hear there were no serious injuries. Please let everyone know our thoughts and prayers are with them and we hope the rest of the cruise is uneventful and safe. We were on a similar trip for our honeymoon 13 years ago and we also had rough seas and were holding onto our beds through out the night so that we did not go flying into a wall. All the chairs had turned over and glasses and bottles were smashed on the ground. I know how scary it was for us and it was no where near what you experienced. my heart is with you for a safe and hopefully uneventful rest of your cruise. Gladly nobody suffered severe injuries. I thing RCI has done a great job in offering 200 Dollars on board credit. THEY did not force the storm to come up. Does nobody read their contracts- in such curumstances they are not in duty to give anything. Missing Alexandria isa bummer- of course- after all nobody got hurt badly, isn´t that more important. After all the Brilliance of the Seas is a S H I P , this is something that floads on water- should someone have forgotten that! For me it is unbelievable that some asked for more money back- if I would be in customer service there, they would get a nice piece of my mind! Some people really should outbalance their opinions! Others may agree or disagree...... :) Hmmmm....Is it just me ? or did I miss the part where it says cruise lines are responsible to compensate guests because Mother Nature and The Big Guy Upstairs throw a temper tamtrum in the form of a violent weather system storm ? How is it that a cruise lines bears responsability for an act of God ? Again, either I missed the new legislation that creates this accountability or...what !! I however fully agree that DAMAGES caused to the person or his/her belongings are recoverable, to an extent, through normal insurance channels, following such an experience as those poor guests lived through, and starting with the liability protection the cruise lines are accountable for ,when such damages occur on their property ,to guests under their hospitality. Weather happens, especially in winter, the Med isn't the tranquil lake of the brochures.
