1500 points is easy to get. I added up my total points over the last 6 cruises and I have 1800 points. Do I get free drinks on the next cruise? lol......:D

I never got 1500 points on any one cruise back when carnival gave me 500 points for being VIP. LOL Guess I'm a "pay as you go drink guy"

According to the Ocean Players club, http://oceanplayersclub.com/AboutTheClub/MembershipAndBenefits.aspx

1 point for every $2.50 on slots,

1 point for every $5 on video slots

Table play is based on your average bet over a period of time ???

Also on the Dream last month there was a sign saying free drinks with 1000 points.

Plus when you get above 1000 points you get cash back at a rate of 1 cent per point.

So $2.50 to get a point, then after you bet $2500 you get $10 back.

I think I will just play the slots for fun and pay for my own drinks....[/quote]

Luv it ,when common sense comes to play ;)

Why is it just gamblers? I spend just as much money buying photographs.;)

I agree... those photos are our down fall. We love them and find so many that we cannot live without!

Losts of casinos will deliever drinks without charge or a min # of points.

As someone said earlier points are not accumulated by winning or loosing but instead by throughput.

I have played in many casinos and accumulated many hundreds of thousands of points.

Here is the way it works:

1) Lets say 1 point = $1 (I don't know what it is on Carnival but I will use this as an example)

2) I start with $100 and bet $1 each pull

3) If I did not win at all then $100 = 100 points.

4) But most casinos are regulated to an average percentage payout. Lets say that is 98% (Which is not unusual).

5) So when I play $100 overall I would expect to end up with $98

6) But during the playing of the $100 I will win some and loose some.

7) So lets just work with the 80% to be conservative (remember this is average so you could loose all $100 the first session):

Session Start Dollars End Dollars Accumulated points

1 100 80 100

2 80 64 180

3 64 51 244

4 51 41 295

5 41 33 336

6 33 26 369

7 26 21 395

8 21 17 416

9 17 13 433

10 13 11 446

11 11 9 457

12 9 7 466

13 7 5 473

8) In a session I put money in and do not play any of the money I win. Then I cash out the winnings and repeat. Sometimes moving to a different machine.

9) So for $100 we end up with 473 points. Between $300 and $400 would get us our 1500 points.

Of course you might be unlucky and loose it all without winning at all and end up with only 400 points. But there again you could hit a jackpot and you would not need to worry about the free drinks :-)

So bottom line it is throughput.

Please gamble responsibly

Because gamblers lose a lot of money and make a lot of money for the casino/cruise ship. You're getting something for the money you spend on shopping. ;)

Just like in Vegas, you get "free" drinks while playing, but you don't get them while shopping. When you think about it, those "free" drinks are really the most expensive drinks I've ever had.

Land based, sure. Not any mass market cruise lines that I can think of. Once at sea, there's no competition.

I'm not sure if there is a Photo Buyer's Anonymous?:p A 12 steps program should work for any addiction, however. ;)

But at the end of the day (or cruise), no matter how much money you spend on pictures, you have something tangible to show for it. Often not the case with the casino. ;)

Not exactly sure how it works but this is what happened to us on our Dream cruise in February. Wife and I both spent between $40-60 a night in the casino on slots. On the sixth night, wife hit 1000 points and was awarded $10 free gambling on her card. On the seventh night, I hit the 1000 mark and got my free $10. Later that night, she hit the 1500 mark and instantly a lady came up to her and told her that she had won and someone would be over to her shortly. Within a minute, a guy came up and took her S&S card out of the machine, punched a whole it it and attached another card to it. It said "Drinks are on us". It was only good while in the casino and the drinks had to be ordered from the servers. She also could not get drinks for anybody else. I'm guessing they probably watched to see how often she got drinks to make sure she didn't.

After a while, she got up to walk around and stopped at the bar at the casino to get a drink and was told that she had to get them from the servers that he couldn't honor the card at the bar.

The best that we could figure it is this way. You put in lets say $10. You take it down to $5. You now have five points. Now you get it back up to $15 and lose it all. You now have accumulated 20 points. It's not actually how many dollars you spend, it's the total overall of the dollars spent, plus the winnings spent. If you were lucky, you could put in $10, keep playing on that if you kept winning, (nobody's that lucky) and get your 1500 points.

Upon boarding the Dream in Dec., I had a letter waiting in my cabin asking me to stop in the casino and get my "drinks on us" card! I was very surprised - didn't have to play a dollar! (of course, I did play many on the rest of the cruise!:D) It was based on my past play. I drink very little, but it was still nice getting a drink for free when I wanted it! (and yes, I got waaay over 1,500 pts on the rest of the cruise!)

It doesn't. It is more than that. Closer to $ 4 -5 for a single point.

But as I said above, you can get many points for $4-5 just depending on your luck. If you put in $4 on a dollar machine and take it all the way up to 1500 credits, then lose it all, you would get the free drinks and it would have only cost you $4. I personally only spent $340 in the casino and hit the 1000 point mark.

for people who like to play the tables.. its important to make sure you find the casino host and have HIM make sure your rated.

on one of my first cruises I left it up to one of the JRs..

Second cruise went to the host.. all was good

Makes me think about the fact that we DO get free drinks...when shopping for jewelry in the ports........DH always says THOSE are the most expensive free drinks he has during the cruise. ;)

Sorry, the points don't carry over cruise to cruise.......

I gamble a lot on the ships usually bringing $1000 to "lose" during a 7 day cruise. It's not at all unusual for me to have 4000+ points by the end of the week. I play .02 and .25 machines on my money and play $1 machines on the credits that I've "won" back.

On my last cruise on the Glory, the On Us program was just being rolled out fleet wide. I had already contacted the Players Club to let them know that I was going to be back on a ship. When I went to the casino after embarkation to set up my players bank the Casino Host was there giving out lanyards (before the casino was open) and recognized my name and gave me my On Us card right then.

You pretty much have to be at a machine playing before the bar waiter will take your order......at least early in the week......after that and when they see that you aren't just ordering a drink then leaving the casino, you can approach a waiter as you are entering the casino, place your order and just tell him what section you will be in.

If you want free drinks and don't want to bet hundreds and thousands in the casino you will not get them. Drinks are NEVER free. I don't care what the programs is. You are better off buying your drinks and not even thinking about this program. Unless of course you like to gamble in the thousands. My old man drops $3 dollars a pull in the slots and spends lots of time in the casinos. I bet he won't even get free drinks.

I am quoting myself because OKgirl seems to know what she is talking about. a grand to drop on a ship isn't that much and maybe I will get free drinks after all. thanks for clarification.

(points don't carry over cruise to cruise)....Thats right but the players club knows everything you played on every cruise if you have your card in the slots when you play. You can get all kinds of goodys and invited to cruise specials if you play alot. Just like any other casino perks, you have to play a reasonable amont of money to get the perks. There are special cruises you must be invited to and you get casino money, free cruise and other items , free drinks right from the start. You also have to cruise alot.

Alot of people get special baskets of goodys or strawberrys/choc, free drinks/like 4, free pictures deliverd to there rooms, some a bottle of wine in the MDR. Depends what you play and for how long.

I would not play just for the perks, but if you do play alot (and alot of people do spend some money in the casino) its nice to get something back. Everybody will be different, and the amounts.

I didn't realise they were so many big spenders out there. I wonder how much profit a ship's casino makes on an average cruise? Perhaps as a CCL stock-holder I could find out this information.

I wouldn't be surprised if the casino were the largest generator of profit on the average cruise. The "free" drinks are supplied to help reduce people's judgment and further increase profits.

The perks are nice and they seem to be getting better since the Ocean Players Club changed to the Carnival Players Club. I do always let them know when I'm going on my next cruise, I have lately been cruising 3 times a year.

Typically I get the Premium Bon Voyage package which includes a variety of things like Champagne, Chocolate covered Strawberries, Drink coupons, Canape tray, Fruit basket, Photo Coupon and now the On Us card.

Table games are rated differently than slots. I think on Carnival you need to be betting a minimum average of $25 per hand, spin, throw, whatever, to be rated.

If that's the case I will stick with Vegas and NCL for gambling. NCL rates anyone playing

Vegas has figured that out...I'm really surprised the cruise ships haven't
