Why do some only take cruise vacations???`

We don't only cruise, but here's the reason why we cruise so often.....

We just returned from a cruise to Bermuda, and aside from our lack of self control at the casino (that trip was an aberration or we'll be seeking help from GA), we probably spent $1,600 for the week. We're sailing again in January, and the cost is $917, which will probably grow by a few hundred dollars, again, not including the casino. I don't include our gambling budget, because that could be spend onboard or just as easily at our local slot hangout.

We're flying down to Charleston in a few weeks. The hotel for four nights already costs more than our entire next cruise.... and then there's the flight, the restaurants, etc.

It's really hard to justify the difference in cost when we really just want to get away to relax. When we want to go somewhere in particular, we do.

We already live on an exotic island and airfare out of here is ridiculously expensive. So we always combine a land vacation in the US with a Caribbean cruise and a European land vacation with a cruise over there.

I like cruising more than a land vacation, because it takes the stress factor away (think traffic, getting lost in a foreign country, deciding on a good restaurant, finding a parking spot at the hotel, currency issues, everyone wanting to do a different thing that day and everyone is cranky and sweating...).... And then think of parking all those cranky folks in the Serenity Area and in Camp Carnival.... Aahhhhhhh....:)

Yep...That and no one has shown any real interest in going to place where a passport is required. I'm not going to spend money going someplace that they really don't want to go to. Not when there are so many places we have yet to see that they do want to go to that don't require a passport.

I'm just joshin':)

I live alone, so everything that gets done at home gets done by me. I love cruising because, after I unpack once, everything gets done for me, and there's a good variety of entertainment available that appeals to grown-ups. And being on the ocean is a magical experience.

As a solo, AI's aren't for me.

I like travel of any kind (I've been to all 48 of the continental states by car), and cruising isn't the only way I go. But it's the best *vacation* for me.

Ok, lots of us overlot the obvious. Many seniors (not all) can really only enjoy travel by a cruise. A cruise will take care of alot of mobility, diet, etc issues. Family reunions can include the seniors as well as very young children. Not all are able to be active or desire to participate in active vacation.

Alot of people are choosing a cruise as a vacation not really a form of travel.

I think that a lot of people on this board do other vacations but since this is a cruising board that is what we talk about.

I do other trips with friends but don't discuss them here. If someone wants to hear about my Disneyland/California Adventure trip.............never mind..

Want to hear about my upcoming trip to Ontario California to a Quilting Convention? Or the last one I went to in Houston? Didn't think so........

Cruises that starts/ends in USA are required to follow the ADA law while all-inclusive and oversea land vacations are not. This makes it easier for my wife and I to enjoy our vacation.

FYI, we have done all-inclusive and oversea vacation and we did enjoyed it but we struggled with the barrier over there. Cruising eliminates this barrier.

My husband has a very stressful job and long hours. We take two-three cruises a year just so that he can decompress. We love to travel but since we live on the coast, every where we would want to go would require a minimum of 10 hours just to fly to. Since he can only take one week at a time, that makes our desire to explore the world a bit impossible....for now, anyway.

In the past we have traveled throughout Europe and he's traveled to Asia for his job. My goal is to spend some extended time in South America. I see that HAL has some nice cruises there but they are 14+ day cruises.

In a year or two we're hoping he can take larger chunks of time off from his job and we will do some "real" traveling. I don't regard the Caribbean Islands or Mexico "traveling", per se, it's good for vacationing with the family as some people mentioned or, as we use it, to decompress but still get to have a change of scenery.

Thanks for your great responses and making thread fun and not angry like some.....

.....but....I still don't get the value.....probably cause i cruise out of nyc and the prices are kinda nuts. I can do better at a basic all inclusive....similar to carnival being kinda basic.

....but i do love to cruise

I spend (literally) half of my time aboard airplanes and at hotels. The last thing I want to do on vacation is to get on an airplane or spend a single night at a hotel.

Cruising is the one vacation that is truly different than my every day routine.

My parents loved taking the family cruising ever since I was a small child, so it's a passion that I've been enjoying my entire life.

We started cruising in 1997 and after a couple of days, we were hooked. I think it is because you don't have to plan meals every day. If you took a land based trip you would have to plan where to go for all three meals every day. That becomes a chore. We have to fly to any destination so cruising just makes sense. It is economical and just plain fun!

My husband and I both traveled all over the world....my husband, more so than me.

Now...for personal/political reasons...there are very few places on the planet where I feel safe.

I hate flying. And, you lose 2 days of a vacation flying, anyway.

We live a few blocks away from the dock in NYC. So...we take public transportation to the ship...and within a few minutes our vacations starts.

We don't cruise for the food, neither of us drink, I dabble in the casino (my husband doesn't) and we aren't "party people".

However, for a low price...you get all you can eat, transportation, entertainment and "maid service".

My husband really isn't crazy about cruising....he says he likes to fly one place, and stay there. However, the last time we did this (June 2011...Clearwater Beach,FL)...I pointed out to him that we did nothing more there than we would do on a ship. I think the light bulb went on!

So....that's why I would only do cruises.

For us it makes sense to do mainly only cruises (sometimes a camping trip here and there, but I also don't consider those vacations really..)

My kids don't like amusement parks, though they do like water parks. I have 2 boys so neither is really into the whole Disney thing since it is a lot about Disney Princesses now.

I would rather drive anywhere other than fly, so IMO at least an all-inclusive some where tropical is out. The only one I found we had interest in anyways with things we like to do would cost about $14,000 for a family of 4.

I have one teenager and one tween trying to eat me out of house and home already, I couldn't even fathom the cost of eating out for a week on vacation, and to me renting a place where I would have to cook every meal? Why go, I can just stay home and do that!

Talking to my SIL who goes to the beach for a week every years with her kids, I actually spend LESS than she does on a vacation. I also have the benefit of not "having" to watch my kids 24/7 if they want to go to the kids clubs so that I can relax also.

At least for now with kids, there is a LOT more reason to cruise than to take a land vacation somewhere. While they are brothers, they have almost nothing in common except video games. Well only none of us like the same things in general as we are all VERY different. A cruise with 3-4 ports gives us the option to look at everything to do and everyone gets to pick something (3 ports I get left out but that is okay cause I pick the ports at least!). A vacation to Disney or some place would give us that basically one option and if the boys turn out miserable and bored well we are stuck!

Hmmmmm.....First cruise was a few years ago and honestly we were both totally hooked! We love the sea and the islands. Waiting for boarding at the port, high anticipation, and that walk over the gang way. Is there possibly a better feeling than that first step on board? Sunset. Sun rise. The Pitons. Leaving St. Thomas at dusk. Looking down South Beach as you sail away from Miami.

Just have never had less than a great time crusing. Think we'll keep it rolling!

our main vacations have been cruising ( since I finally broke down and would try it as I don't like boats and never would go, now I can't get enough, lol) anyway, I think it has the best value, I love waking up in different places, it's basically a floating hotel from destination t destination, all inclusive is the food and entertainment. Yes the drinks are extra but we're not big drinkers, we probably drink more in 1 wk on a cruise then we do in 6 mons at home.

Beacuse the prices can not be beat, can not go to a beach resort for a week for the same price. I do not have to drive, I do not have to cook I get to visit 5 ports on my next cruise, so for me, cruising is a no brainer. And June I am finally going to Alaska and I hope to see Russia from my cruise.
